maybe 2.5 stars. this was a weird read and i only picked it up because i accidently bought the newest book in a series without reading any of the previous books. this is the first in the series.

overall, i didn't feel any real connection between sam and maggie. the writing seemed kind of choppy and didn't flow very well. i often had to re-read paragraphs to figure out who was talking and who they were talking about.

debating on whether i should read the next ones. leaning towards no.

Not bad. Kathleen Eagle's dialogue is so succinct, laconic, even that I didn't get the development of the characters' relationship. They seemed to understand it, but I, the reader, was lost.

Kathleen Eagle has written a good, short novel that provides good escape. Sam is a true hero, devoted to those he loves.
Solid story, although I liked The Last Good Man better.
Plot was OK - but the righting was unbalanced and awkward.
