In her fifty-second bestselling novel, Danielle Steel weaves a compelling story of the power of lies, the misuse of trust--and of one woman's triumph over a devastating betrayal.

Marie-Ange Hawkins has the kind of childhood that most people dream of. Freedom, love, security in a beautiful old French château. But when Marie-Ange is just eleven, a tragic accident marks the en...more

I picked up the book last night, and just continued to read it till 3pm today. It was okay. The best thing about the book was the fast pace. I did not enjoy the static characters. I did not enjoy her repetition. I dislike the way Steel kept repeating most of the sentences.

Example, page 122:

"She loved the way he worried about her, and wanted to protect her ... she loved the protection he offered, his obvious concern. She was totally in love with him."

Really? I mean come one. I felt like I had som...more

Ive had this book on my bookshelf for several years now. It was actually given to me by a woman in the waiting room for the OR when both our husbands were having surgery. She had finished it while waiting and passed it on to me. :)

I have never read a Danielle Steele book before. I have stayed away from them, as I had the impression of "fluffy romance". My grandmother used to love her!

So I picked this up 2 nights ago. It was a very quick read and I did enjoy it. However, I found it very, very pre...more

If 2.5 stars were an option, I would have given this book that score. I did feel some sort of investment in the characters; however, it was very predictable. The tale was also rather anti-climactic. The woman has just thrown her two children into a net and has seen that they were fine. Despite the fact that she was scared, I do think that "leap of faith" is a bit of an overstatement. The ending did not seem to fit well with this very predictable tale. I was hoping to see a light at the end of th...more

Gah, Danielle Steel is one of the worst authors I've ever read. She basically writes children's books with adult subjects. The writing is probably less than a fifth grade level.

"She felt scared and alone. She felt lonely." That's an example of some of the repetitious writing you'll find in her books.

I gave this two stars because "it was OK." It entertained me, and I sympathized with the main character, but no more Danielle Steel for me. I like fluffy reads, but her writing is beyond fluff. I alr...more

I really did not enjoy this book. I felt the death of the protagonist's family was too tragic to really ever get over during the course of the book, and I wasn't able to really connect with her either. I suspected her husband was going to be trouble from the start, and the ending, where her long-time friend welcomes her back with open arms dispite years of near silence was a little too much to accept... Not Danielle's best work.

This was one of Danielle Steel's shorter novels. Lately, her shorter stories seem to be more enjoyable. Many of her stories are recycled story lines, but with different characters. She often feels the need to repeat, chapter after chapter, about how rich and beautiful the main character is. With her shorter novels, you get less repeating & a quick enjoyable story.

Quick read, started last night before bed, finished this morning..

Marie is orphaned but goes to live with her only relative, Great Aunt Carole in Iowa - quite the change from France. She meets Billy who becomes her life long friend. She interits loads of money and goes back to France only to be swindled by her husband. Billy comes to her rescue and book ends..

It was a great book. I love Danielle Steel. However, it did remind me of a VC Andrews novel- since the main character is introduced as a youngster and overtime becomes an orphan being cared for by mean relative. That situation is a common Andrews theme. I was pleasantly pleased, since I love VC Andrews. Danielle Steel is a diverse author. I recommend this title.

I am not a big fan of Danielle Steel, but I must say that this book touched me so much. I liked how tragedy was presented, how the lead character became the usual Cinderella, and of course, the gasp-inducing twist at the end. Give this book a spin if you want to read Danielle Steel without fluffiness and 'munchness'. :)

OK--I like a Danielle Steel when there's some substance to the book; this one must have been written solely for the purpose of buying her some new jewelry or something. It's awful--read it in one hour. She just cranked this one out with her standard formula--sweet girl, bad things happen, then good things happen, the end.

I love this book! One of the best of DS novels. I almost cried when Marie-Ange lost her parents and her brother in a car accident at the age of eleven. And she has no choice but live with her very unkind Aunt. I just wish Billy and Marie end up together as a couple rather just best friends at the end. Although in your extent of imagination they would..

This book was good until the end and then it got a little over the top. It just seemed like this girl Marie-Ange was so smart & intelligent that she would never have fallen for Bernard's schemes. The character of her Aunt Carole was also a little harsh - could anyone really be that cruel? I guess overall it was ok.

A quick easy read. It is quite interesting to see so many varying ratings for this author. I did find this book a little predictable but I enjoyed it. The ending fell short for me with too many unanswered questions, but perhaps the authors intent was to leave on thinking of what might happen next.

first off - this book was for an assignment - read any romance novel - so i did
ok - this book was written so simply and the words/ideas were so repetitive that it was super easy to read and if i had not known better would have thought it belonged in the juvenile fiction section (minus a few paragraphs)
There were some heavy subjects dealt with in a fluffy way and nothing was written about in depth - it was very vague and generic - very stereotypical, but yet I did finish it but kind of threw it a...more

Danielle Steel is a very good author. She lets a person read her own life in each page. Leap of Faith is a book that is nonetheless entertaining and at the same time gives a person an important lesson in life that will always be remembered.

I felt the beginning was a rip off of "The Little Princess", and while most of the book was predictable -- the twist about the former wife surprised me, and for that I gave the book some credit. Plus, unlike some of her other books, I wasn't bored to death.

My first Danielle Steel. Probably my last. Too much info crammed into a short read. Was ok, not good. Where was the romance? And the ending was disappointing. Would like to see it turned into a mini series with some re-writing.
Heidi
There was no depth to the characters in this book. I felt Marie-Ange wasn't the brightest lightbulb in the bunch, but the book was a fun quick read. My first Danielle Steel novel given to me by my grandmother. I wasn't too impressed.

leap of faith. it was a really interesting book about a girl who lost her family and went to live in a farm. how she moved to the city and finds out an ugly truth.she hat to take a leap.. of faith.
Fanny
I was quite disappointed with this book. I did not want great litterature, only a light read, but the characters were too shallow to really like them and the story too quick and preditable.

Since 1981, Ms. Steel has been a permanent fixture on the New York Times hardcover and paperback bestseller lists. In 1989, she was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having at least one of her books on the Times bestseller list for 381 consecutive weeks. But Guinness was premature. The fact is that one or more of Ms. Steel's novels have been on the New York Times bestseller list for...more
