I tought that this book was going to be about Mr. Tony eating a lot of baloney, but to my suprise it was not that at all. Mr.Tony was AJ's and his friends ASKK which stand for After-School Kids Kare teacher. Mr. Tony was always doing weird things like pogo-juggling and egg-jogging to keep himself busy so that he could stop smoking and try to get into The Guiuness Book of World Records. AJ and his friends didn't want to be in the ASKK program, until Mr. Tony showed them how to make pizza's which...more

This is the second book we've read in the My Weird School Daze series by Dan Gutman and Jim Paillot. They are very funny, quick reads and although they are told from a boy's perspective, I think they would appeal equally to boys and girls. We are reading the books completely out of order, but it doesn't seem to matter. The dialogue is fresh and the story is easy to read aloud. I do not like the instances where the word "dumbhead" is used, but I either change the word or mention how that it is a...more

These are the kind of books that 2nd and 3rd graders devour. Lots of silly word plays and humor that adults might roll their eyes at but kids simply eat up. In this installment, AJ and his friends are enrolled in the afterschool program and Mr. Tony is the leader/teacher of the group. In his effort to quite smoking, Mr. Tony is looking for ways to keep busy and possibly make it into the Guinness Book of World Records. Of course hilarity ensues. Gutman also uses some great word plays which teache...more

Surprised I didn't love this one like I have all the rest of this series. Felt like it was rushed. Usually I really like the quirky main character, but Mr. Tony just was not interesting. Dan Gutman slow down! Quality not quantity.
