For Janie and Cabel, real life is getting tougher than the dreams. They?re just trying to carve out a little (secret) time together, but no such luck. Disturbing things are happening at Fieldridge High, yet nobody's talking. When Janie taps into a classmate's violent nightmares, the case finally breaks open ? but nothing goes as planned. Not even close. Janie's in way over...more

As one case closes another one opens. Janie Hannagan returns, this time using her abilities of being swept into a person's dreams to solve a sex scandal at her school.
Several calls have been made on Fieldridge High School's anonymous phone line. Although inaudible at times, the messages result in the assumption that certain faculty members and students at Fieldridge have been fooling around. So Captain and her agents use their...more

I love this series. I have been waiting to read Fade since I sped through the last few pages of Wake, and I was not disappointed. Everything that I attracted me to the first novel is still there, simplicity of McMann’s writing, quick pace and realistic dialogue.
Fade divulges more about Janie’s ability which was fascinating and unimaginable at the same time. The unique relationship between Janie and Cabel is also taken to a new level.

"Fade" continues the story begun in "Wake" and if you try reading this one first, you're likely to be a little confused.
In "Wake," we met Janie, a girl with the ability to be a dream-catcher. This means she can enter other people's dreams. "Wake" was about Janie coming to terms with her new power. "Fade" is concerned with Janie learning the responsible use of her power and the consequences of being a dream-catcher. It sets up things for a third and final installment of the series that, quite fra...more

Well I liked Fade, but it was not as good as the first one. It took me about 80 pages in to get hooked to this one. The narrative didn't bother me with this one since I picked this one up literally seconds after finishing Wake. I still liked the characters and their interactions with each other. I liked the development of the characters and seeing them deal with their demons. Didn't care as much for the plot line of this one as I did with the first one. Mostly with Fade what I liked was when Jan...more

This was my review of Wake (to which Fade is a sequel):
"In some ways, this book reads like it was written by a very, very smart teenager on the older/more mature side, i.e. 17-18, has been in love, and experienced other kinds of deep vulnerability as well--basically like the book's heroine, perhaps in a few years or in a self-reflexive place.

So here we are again. This book, like the last, carving a whole in my chest. Threatening to bring me tears.....
But then???
This is still a good story. I like it, I do. I think most of that is due to two things however.
1.) I like this writing style. While it wouldn't work for most, it works here. It just does. With short, simple sentences, and the time stamps this book flies by. It's in incredibly easy read.
2.)Janie and Cabel are just SUCH a sweet couple. I like wanna squeeze their checks and say...more

První díl světově oblíbené série jsem si náramně užila. Kniha mě dostala svou syrovostí, emočností a hlavně naprosto ojedinělým stylem vyprávění.

This sequel to McMann's young adult novel "Wake" improves on the former with more focused prose and more attention given to the budding romance between "dream catcher" Janie and her narc-in-hiding boyfriend, Cabel. If there's a third wheel to this relationship, it's the couple's employer, Police Captain Fran Komisky, who serves on occasion as surrogate parental figure and relationship counselor, providing all the well intentioned tough-love you can stand.

You should read WAKE before you pick up FADE. You’ll understand the story much better.
My review may be a little vague, but I don’t want to give away any SPOILERS for WAKE.
Janie still has a difficult life. Her mother still drinks and hides in her bedroom to the extent that she doesn’t have any interest in what Janie does. Janie is the adult in house - making sure there are groceries in the house and taking care of the other day to day household chores.

Janie's story began in Wake, but it was far from over. After getting an awesome scholarship and contract deal with the police department, Janie has capitalized on her ability and turned it into a job! Now that she and Cabel are working together she thinks their relationship can't get any better, and she's right.
The police have an assignment for Janie, she'll be purposely invading dreams and learning whatever she can in attempts to catch a teacher who might be a sexual predator at her school. But...more

Lisa McMann blew me away with this second book. I was uncontrollably gripping the book till the last word. Janie's story unravels--literally. She gets into some compromising situations and I was left breathless, panting after--anticipating the outcomes.
I was wonderfully absorbed into Cabel's emotional state. His flaws--his insecurities, history and his want for safety sets him apart and makes him so wonderfully real and lovable. His battle with Janie's actions, her desires and her hopes and drea...more

Janie is our dream-catching heroine with the "curse" of falling into other people's dreams. When other people fall asleep around her, she 'falls into' their dreams. Witnesses it all. This as you can imagine is very draining, very awkward, very icky at times. But now Janie is using her 'curse' for good; she's helping the police force out. Working undercover alongside her boyfriend, Cabel. Soon after the book opens, the two are told about a new case they'll be given. A case allegedly involving tea...more
I read the first book Wake and was hooked. I think this book wasn't as good as the first because there was too much tension between Janie and Cabel. I think that all the action was great and the idea of a teacher that was a child molester was captivating. The fact that a date-rape drug was used took the reader by surprise, and the setting was good. The book could have used a couple more minor characters that went to Janie's school, and Janie and Cabel should have been able to work out their prob...more
Either 3.5 or 4 stars; I can't decide. This sequel to Wake was good, but not quite as good as the first one (although I don't remember that in great detail. In here, Janie and Cabel are working on a new case at their high school, with Janie being sucked into the dreams of her fellow students to look for clues. I still love the premise, but I didn't like the plot/case that they were working on all that much; it seemed almost too sensational. The writing is very sparse, for lack of a better descri...more
This book was a really good sequel because it really followed up on the main focuses from "Wake". I also loved the relationship that Janie and Cabel share because it is just so sweet, in all honesty, this type of relationship is the kind that I myself have always dreamed of having. Just having someone to talk to, someone who really listen and cares, and someone I would fight till the end of time itself to ensure they get to have a happy life. I also admire Janie's bravery when it came to working...more

Again, I had a hard time putting this book down, and found it even more interesting than the last because now Cabe and Janie attempting to find the sexual predator within their school using two phone calls from an anonymous student. Even though some parts of the investigation are easy to guess, it doesn't ruin the book, because the parts that I didn't see coming were stunning.

So the second installment of the Wake trilogy is incredibly morbid. Fade just focuses on all the negatives of Janie's life without really expressing much of the positive. It made for a compelling read, but one that left me a little morose.
The one bright spot in the whole thing is Cabel, of course. The relationship between him and Janie is about the only positive thing, and even that has several rocky points throughout. Although I will admit that despite Cabel being a bit flighty at the end, I re...more

I read Wake and Fade in one night. With this said; I'm not sure which one I liked more. Wake was so exciting with the dreams. And even though the dreams are of course present in Fade, it's really a mystery novel. Janie now works undercover to help crack cases in her school and her next case is finding teacher who is a sexual predator. There's one catch: she may have to be bait. She uses her dreams here and there, tries to master her skill; but it's really about cracking the case. It's so scandal...more
Lisa McMann does it again! This time the stakes are higher as Cabel deals with the risks Janie has to take and Janie copes with just how hard things get with her ability. To say Janie gets in over her head is an understatement as she nearly falls victim to one of the worst kinds of evil in humanity. Cabel struggles to let Janie do what she needs to, knowing what could happen, and despite the new steps they take in their relationship, it stresses their bond until it nearly breaks.

Fade starts off in a new year and Janie is now working for the Captain and is in a "secret" relationship with Cabe. She quits her job at the nursing home and is devoted in a new assignment that involves a sexual predator in her high school. She and Cabe work on the case together to find out who this predator might be. Along the way Janie is learning how to control dreams and even trying to pause them.
I love Janie and Cabe together because they are matched perfectly for each other. They are both...more

Nothing's better than a ice cold glass of water, after working out, spending the day at the beach, or just mowing the lawn on a hot summer day.
Looking at this cover, it makes me swallow, and want to get a glass of water for myself.
Sadly, the cover doesn't have much to do with the story line. The first book Wake, had a pillow on it which made sense, since the main character gets sucked into peoples dreams. But I'm not exactly sure how a cold glass of water ties in.

Okay, so I liked this one a tad more than I liked Wake. But only because it actually had some semblance of a plot and the writing was a bit tighter.
If only the plot wasn’t so fucking ridiculous and outlandish. I get that this is a paranormal book, so some disbelief is required, but it is just so far removed from reality.

This book was a hundred times better than Wake. I actually started feeling more of a connection with the characters, the writing style was so much better as well. There was a story to this one. Well, more of one, the emotion was a little more, where I may not have felt what the characters felt, but I understood they were feeling and knew what emotion was there.

I loved it. The first book really made me love the storyline and after reading it I was hoping there was more, and there was! This was it! What made me love it was its uniqueness. Not often do you read a story about dream catchers or people who fall into other people's dreams. This book was a thrill to me. The heroine, who was working as an undercover cop, had to catch someone she had no clue about, but by gathering information from her dreams she not only caught one person but several. The peop...more
Usually I begin with a synopsis to the story, but I will begin with saying that this is an adult book disguised as and put in the young adult section. It is not for young adults and if I saw my teenager with this book I would be having a serious talk with them about their book selection. The language is atrocious and the sexual content is too much for young adults. The only saving factor of this book is the intriguing premise and the potential for some good candid discussions on date rape drugs...more
I was very impressed with the first book in this series, WAKE, for its subdued and menacing take on a supernaturally gifted high school student - but I was surprised when a sequel came out, because WAKE felt very much like a stand-alone. I had a sense of closure and wasn't sure where the story would go.
So I was pleasantly surprised by FADE - it has the same eerie, present tense writing, the same atmosphere of grim reality punctured by moments of sweetness and humor. It also has a great story, o...more

I liked this book just as much as I did the original, which surprised me because that almost never happens. I always feel like books in a series get worse with every new addition, but I was proven very wrong. Fade takes more time to develop relationship between Cabel and Janie. Generally speaking, I could care less about the development between romantic interests in book, but their relationship was very well done. The romance wasn't overly cheesy or dramatic, and just like in the last book, they...more
Once again, this was a quick read, taking me only a few short hours to finish, and yet another of McMann's reads that I couldn't put down. So far, three for three.
