I edited this review just a bit. It's an old review but I think I could have worded some things a little better.

There were many Paranormal YA series where I couldn't possibly continue reading after the first book, but the Hush, Hush series is special. Despite the fact that yes, it is merely another abuse-glorifying panty-wetter, the unintentional hilarity just makes the books so much fun to read (in a twisted masochistic kinda way).

To be honest I've written this review so long ago I don't quite remember what went through my mind as I wrote it... =/

But one thing I know is that I found this series to be somewhat of a comedy. I haven't continued reading any of them as I originally stated because I kind of started getting over reading what I considered to be 'bad young adult fiction' for the 'lulz' of it. I know that the way this book was written and all the soap-opera like elements of it cracked me up and I loved Marcie so much that I simply had to know what happens to her. I don't currently plan on giving the others a read because I am not in the same mindset as I was when I wrote this review... it's almost as though it was written by another person to be honest.

To each his own indeed. I don't mind if people enjoy this series. My review was pretty much made to relate to others who hated the book. I guess that's why so many people enjoyed it, I don't know. I don't think anyone should take my hatred of this book seriously at all. If they still want to read it, they should be able to do so guilt free. I would never stand over the shoulder of someone reading this book and start bitching at them about how much the book sucks and what not. I don't think I embellished anything in my review; everything is pretty much how I honestly felt after I read it. I know people like it when crude humour is used, but that's not why I used it back then. I just used things like that because that was my style. If I wrote it today it would probably be much different. I'm really not sure.

I don't think you should assume that you should enjoy this series any less because of my review. If you like it that's totally fine, and I'm glad you didn't jump to calling me all kinds of names under the sun because of my hatred for this book which sadly many other fans of the book proceeded to do at some point, so I appreciate your courtesy. I'm glad you found my review to be funny, even though I personally think it's kind of lame...

So I was at Borders the other day, and this book was on the shelf and underneath it read 'Patch is the bad boy Edward wishes he was'.
Of course, the idea of a forbidden-ish love story will always remind us of You-Know-What, but i'm seriously saying that this book is addictive enough for it to be a crime to compare it twilight. Just read it, in a day.
I cannot describe how much i adore it though, i have to say its my favourite one i've ever read.
Got this off amazon yesterday, and i started reading and was hooked,

Awesome!, Amazing!, Unbelievable!, but not as good as the first.............. I was able to guess last year what this book would be about, not hard to figure out, but the execution was iffy at best, and as for Patch, he disappointed me this time round *pouts*

As for Nora and her need to question and doubt everything anyone does, especially Patch, this is my answer to her...........

Its a good book, and I will read the next one, but, well, I think the pictures have made my POV very clear.

I don't even know how to begin. This book is aimed at teenagers? That's the most horrific part. Impressionable young teenage girls will be reading this thinking that relationships this abusive are 'sexy' and desirable, and that Nora's attitude to her TTLY SRS 2 MONTH RELATIONSHIP is normal and not creepy and over the top at all. It makes me want to gag. She's such an awful role model. At one point she claims she wants to kill herself because she can't be with her boyfriend of 2 months any more....more

I've been dying to read crescendo for ages and was ecstatic when I finally got my hands on it. The book was everthing I wanted and more! It's filled with great dialogues and witty remarks. It starts off with nora's dad being murdered and the rest of the book follows the mystery of who the killer was. Meanwhile nora and patch are also goin through a tough time. They break up over a row after nora hears he was hanging round marcie's house and soon he starts roaming round her 24/7. Marcie was a slutty bitch throught the book and u'll love to hate her. The archangels are also trying to ripthem apart and it was quite heartbreaking at times. Another mysterious character enters the picture;Scott who is a nephil and nora's childhood friend. Nora uses him at times to make patch jealous. He was a bit of a jerk and quite evil at times but I really liked him and hope to see more of him.
I liked nora in this book as she stood up for herself in front of patch instead of mourning in her room and was a lot more gutsy but sometimes she made some really dumb impulsive decissions and should have listened to patch when he tried to explain. Patch was a lot more sensitive and caring this time round (as crazy as it sounds) and I don't know why so many people keep critisizing him. He didn't have much of a choice for some of the things he did and I fell in love with him evenmore. Having said that, there were times when he caused her a lot of pain and acted like a jerk but in the end won me over. I felt there was a lack of him in this book. Vee was really funny and a very loyal supportive friend. I didn't like her much the first time round but in this she grew on me. Rixon also had a big part in this story and her mom also had a few skeletons in her closet. The ending takes u completely by surprise and the book is packed with twists and turns. You will never guess vwho the villain is! some Scenes with patch and nora were quite steamy and the dream sequences were sensational. It ends with a cliff hanger with a new villain on the horizon and I m dyin to read tempest to see what happens to patch, nora, Scott, marcie and vee. I can honestly say I loved every moment of crescendo and would highly recommend it! (less)

Well. . .I am an eternal optimist, and I wanted to give Fitzpatrick a second chance to wow me, make me fall in love with Patch as I should have in book one, and keep me engrossed enough to find out where she was going with her angel mythos. However -- reading this book, I found that I just didn...more Sigh. Why did I even bother, you ask, when I gave Hush, Hush three stars after a very rocky reading experience back in April? Where this series really fails is its heroine. While I excused Nora's naïveté in the first book, there's just no explaining it away this time: this girl is a dunce. She learned nothing from her experiences in book one. She persists in following the formula of chasing after the answer to the mystery no matter where the road leads her. Nora doesn't have the excuse of Patch for this novel: Scott, this novel's enigma, is just a plain jerk any smart girl would steer clear of -- but, no, Nora proves herself stupid yet again by having to crack the new guy's shell. She puts herself in danger time and again -- and for what? I get it that all of this is for the sake of plot, but goodness is it a sorry plot. I felt as if I were reading a mix of Fallen and various books in the Evermore series -- and, frankly, I've had too many brushes with those type of books in the past few years to feel guilty giving this book the scrap. I made it to about page 150 before I thought, "You know what? Why waste my time? My to-read pile is too large for me to keep spending time reading a book that I don't even care about!" So, instead, I simply skipped to the last few pages and read the end which just wasn't that great anyway.

It's sad, really, since both Hush, Hush and Crescendo had such intriguing prologues that just screamed mystery and suspense -- but, as soon as the novels reach Nora's POV, the roller coaster of suspense quickly slows and rolls to a dead stop. Also, I just don't see the appeal of Patch, then or now or in the future. He's a mix of Damien from Evermore and Edward from Twilight, that's all, and he chooses when to show his affections and what answers to give according to his time. Also, the angel mythology here is simply laughable now. Patch was Nora's guardian angel? Really? I honestly couldn't tell the difference between fallen angel Patch and guardian angel Patch, and that's a glaring flaw in and of itself since there is a BIG difference between fallen angels and guardian angels. But I'll refrain from sharing the nuances since people are either going to love the book and chuck rocks at me for hating it or agree with me by not reading the book themselves. It's up to you to decide for yourself where you stand and what really matters for you in a story. As for me, this story just doesn't matter to me because it holds next to nothing that I care about in a book.

This book is going to the used bookstore the first chance I get, along with its predecessor, and I hope they fall into the hands of someone who will tolerate them much better than I did. That is all.

(Oh, wait, there was ONE THING I liked about this book: we found out Patch's name, and it turned out to be a name I really liked. It's a shame that I didn't get to use it first. *grumble, grumble*) (less)

I read Hush, Hush in a day I have to admit it is very addicting, very good writing. I love it, I mean I am honestly thinking of re reading it again the very next day, so I have it marked on my calendar for when this book 'Crescendo' comes out because honestly I was just thinking to myself 'God I hope there is a part 2!

Honestly I am strictly Vampire 'Romance' type of girl... (no not twilight, Sookie Stackhouse, Morganville, Anita Blake, etc) untill I came upon two books. Fallen... and Hush Hush....more

I used to think Hush, Hush was the worst book ever written, and then I was stupid enough to read Fallen and Torment, and I realized there was a whole deeper level of shit an "author" (again, term used loosely) could achieve. So I picked up Crescendo thinking, "Well, at least it's not Fallen, right?"

Now, Lauren Kate is a shitty author. This has been established. Her writing is ... bizarre, her characterization maddening, her plotting more aptly described as "plodding." Maybe it...more

And when exactly could the archangels watch or listen? Some strange omnipresence that wasn't so omnipresent after all or Norah never would have been in any danger. What is the point of guardian angels if they don't actually guard anything but can make out with their subjects? There are qualities about Patch the fallen angel I could accept that don't jive with Patch the guardian angel, on the up and up with the powers that be, which wouldn't that be God? Yeah, I wasn't so fond of the angel lore, even less so than Hush, Hush.

I struggled with the beginning, but by midway through I was drawn into story. Vee was still annoying, Patch was strangely absent, but Marcie was a viable antagonistic character. I was never satisfied with any answers about Marcie and Patch, nor do I think Norah should have been. She should have hounded Patch a little more about exactly what went on between the two of them. Yeah, it might be annoying girlfriend reaction, but it's what she would have done and as readers we deserved a little more insight too.

I figured out who the villain was pretty early on, which only made it all the more annoying to have Norah manipulated and blindsided. It made the climax fall a little flat for me, but if you hadn't figured that out, it could have been intense. The cliffhanger was a nice twist too, not that I couldn't see that coming, but it did make me want to read on. I'm not sure if I will though. The angel lore bothers me enough and I don't love Norah or Patch enough to feel obligated to complete their story.(less)

I can't quite identify what it is about this series that has me feeling at odds, but I think it is time for me to admit that I'm in an unhealthy love/hate relationship with these books. My thoughts are all over the place. On one hand, I want to praise, on the other, I want rant. The one sure thing I can say is that I'm hooked.

The build up and the mystery surrounding the Fallen Angels is quite the page turner, but I think the reason I feel so confused is because there is just so much going on in the storyline. It is overwhelming. Sure, a lot of stories/series have multiple plot twists, but something about they way it is done in Crescendo (as with hush, hush) just didn't work very well. It almost feel forced. I can't decide if this is done on purpose to add to a chilling thrill to story, in which case would be a brilliant move on the author's part, or if it is just sloppy writing. Which brings me to my next point. The characters.

Nora. Who are you? You don't know yourself. Understandable since you are just fifteen, but as a protagonist, all I can think is hot mess. In the next book, I hope to see Nora grow into herself a bit more, become more grounded. I'm not saying she has to be perfect, but I think she should at least be herself.

Patch. What am I supposed to do with you? Oye. Patch's laid back attitude is just too lax for me. Sure, he is still the very intense creepy stalker we all know and love, but he is also very nonchalant (in a very aggravating way). He pissed me off a lot. For instance, why the hell did he have to go around kissing Marcie?

Speaking of Marcie, why does she even exist as a character? The whole side story with Marcie and Nora being frienemies was so annoying. I got tired of it, quickly; and it just makes no sense. How can Nora get into a fist fight with Marcie one day and the next go to her party?

Oh, and hello, Patch! Did you really just admit to hooking up someone who you suspected to be a crazy killer with Nora's best friend?! And Nora did you really just ignore that little fact?! Poor Vee. She is the only reliable person in Nora's life, and Nora completely takes advantage of her. *hands Vee a hot dog with a lot of mustard and a cupcake*

You see, how this story inspires me to rant? Gah! Sadly, the best thing about this series are the covers. Both have been absolutely amazing, visually. I love them. The story continues with Tempest, coming Fall 2011. I really hope the new cover will have both Nora and Patch on it.

Finally, I know I really need to stop ranting about evil cliffhangers. They are all the rage these days, so I don't expect them to end anytime soon. *heavy sigh*(less)

This biggest problem I had with the book was Nora. I know Nora is a teenager and teenagers are full of angst and emotion. This biggest problem I had with the book was Nora. I know Nora is a teenager and teenagers are full of angst and emotion. The problem is that the characters in books can't be nearly as angsty or emotional as real teenagers because they would come off as completely unsympathetic and annoying. Nora went well over the acceptable amount of whining in this book. She lost any of the intelligence she had in the last book, doing reckless and stupid things over and over.

Patch was also annoying in this book. Many of the issues that took place in this book could have been solved if he just explained even a fraction of what was going on. Considering Nora knew a lot already, what would it hurt to explain some more?

There were also a lot of things that bothered me in this book.

1. Patch said that he was taken away from Nora as a guardian angel the night she told him she loved him and was reassigned to Marcie (the whole reason that he was in Marcie's driveway and the cause of their breakup). He also said that Nora fired him from the job the night at the pool hall. So which was it?
2. Apparently there are only 3 places that any of the characters could be in town. Patch and Marcie were anywhere that Nora went. That's just unrealistic to expect, especially when Nora went to a pool hall in the next town over that no one had previously gone to.
3. How come one of the librarians didn't go in at closing time to make sure Nora was gone? I know what you're thinking... they probably thought she left already. I can tell you that when you are closing your place of business, you notice when everyone has left. Not to mention, I'm sure they'd walk through all the media rooms to make sure everything was turned off.
4. Marcie's dad is also Nora's? Way to just throw something in there. I would have bought that Nora's mom was having an affair with Marcie's dad, but that he was also Nora's dad seemed like an unnecessary addition. It also makes less sense then that he would go after Nora even if she did kill Chauncey. If it was just the daughter of his mistress, I could understand that.

Overall, this book felt very soap opera-like. Aside from the obvious "Who's the daddy" and "surprise killer" elements, scenes and dialogue were manipulated unnaturally to get a certain outcome. Any intelligence was thrown out the window in order to have the characters jump to the wrong conclusion just to drag out the story and to make the characters confused about what is really going on.

It was also ended on a cliff hanger. What I liked about the first one was that it ended and, if I had decided not to read the next one or had to wait for it like I did, I wasn't left feeling like I didn't get a whole book.

I'd give it 2.5 stars.(less)

After I read Hush Hush, I really didn't know if I should read Crescendo or not. But you know me. *sheepish grin* I ALWAYS fall for a pretty cover and I also ALWAYS fall for a good trailer. I watched the trailer, like 20 times, and I still have this "AWESOME =O" feeling inside me whenever the trailer finishes. Thank you Ms. Becca for making readers, like me, read this book because of the given reasons above.

Her best friend lets face it not really that great. And then she tells patch she loves him and he takes off. supposedly cause there's danger but we find out he goes to her "arch-nemesis"(Marcie) lol house. he stare at her threw the bedroom window. she finds all this out(thanks to the Bi!@# Marcie), and patch being secretive and shady wont tell her anything and she over-reacts yes. She breaks up with him because she is HURT. and he doesn't even fight for her! I give you Patch did say "I'm supposed to just swallow your decision and walk out?" but that's ALL he did. he continues to hangout with Marcie which is like a slap in the face. Plus Marcie is throwing it in Nora's face every chance she gets. Nora tries to be spiteful and use Scott to make Patch jealous, it doesn't really seem to work until more towards the end anyway. Does Nora find out that her and Patch "CAN'T" be together. yes because of the Angels. he'll go to hell. but it doesn't make it easier for her.

But come on ladies, those of you that have fallen in love completely with a guy and then he breaks your heart. Regardless if he meant to or not. Its suffocating.....that pain... it feels like you can't breath. And poor Nora has to stand by and watch the guy she loves move on with the one person she hates most in the world. that's got to hurt something awful. To me it seems like he doesn't even care. (now I know deep down that its a series, so I know there has to be a reason) but it was still hard for me to get through

oh plus some psycho is trying to get her throughout the book and she has to deal with it all on her own. She can't talk to her BFF because 1. Vee doesn't know anything about the Nephilim or Fallen Angels so she can't talk to her about it. and 2. Vee is dating Rixon, Patch's best friend so she isn't around all the time. and Patch isn't there for her. He is too busy with Marcie.

Now I will give you, when the fight broke out in the pool hall Patch did get Nora out first, and when Nora was in a fight at the battle of the bands, it was her that patch got out first. Then too, but he also went back in for marcie, and after the battle of the bands he took marcie home.

Later that night he goes into Nora's dream, and they start making out. But Nora touches his back and sees he's memories of earlier that night of Patch taking Marcie home. Marcie flirting, him not really flirting back. but they kiss and he doesn't stop it. she tells him what she sees and he doesn't really defend himself he tells her that him & Marcie it isn't love so its ok basically. which is like a slap in the face. She throws him out. She rips his necklace off her neck and gives it back to him. She asks for her ring back but he refuses to give her ring back to her.

The night of Marcie's party. Patch helps her when she gets stuck on the roof, because she was snooping in Marcie's bedroom. He asks to drive her home and have take out with him. she is reluctant but then says ok. He tells her (telepathically) that he'd go rouge for her if she asked him to, so that they could have some time together because he's tired of 'living halfway'. She wants to but she loves him so much she can't deal with the fact she would be the reason he would go to hell.She rejects his offer and she walks away crying.

Now I choose to believe that deep down Patch truly loves her since the beginning and never stopped. but since she broke up with him and said she wanted nothing to do with him & said he was NO LONGER her guardian angel(which OBVIOUSLY she didn't mean any of it). Since he was assigned to Marcie; He was pretending to move on.

Throughout the whole book. It has this sad feeling behind it. Nora seems heartbroken and feels alone and abandoned. It was hard for me to get through. I was anxiously waiting for "the third act twist, the unexpected declaration of love" .

I must say that the ending leaves you hanging which is good because now you have to get the next book to see what happens. I feel a lot better about the book once I reached the end of it then i did for most of the book. I have the feeling that this book will be my least favorite in the series. But I'm sticking with it and I'm starting "Silence" today.(less)

Listening to Tears in Heaven while I write this review, because I think I'm hilarious.

Verdict: Still bad. But I think I might have found it easier to read than the first one.

The Good-ish: Everyone hates Vee, and I agree that she's a very selfish friend. But, for me, she often functions as the voice of truth in the story. Telling it like it is. Exhibit A:

"I hate this kind of food," I said, feeling grease seep through the wax-paper-wrapped hot dog onto my hand. "It's unhealthy."

Well, in my Hush, Hush review I said I thought the constant comparison to Twilight was not warranted, but now I have to take that back. In the first book, we have the mysterious and dangerous boy whom Nora falls for while also being worried that in actuality he wants to kill her. Okay, been there, read that. There is much angst, much danger, much revealed, but only in the last fifty pages or so.

There is much angst, much danger, much revealed, but only in the last fifty pages or so.
Now, we're to the second book and we get the requisite break-up which leaves Nora devastated and almost unable to go on. We have the mysterious and possibly even more dangerous new boy whom she sort of, almost, maybe, begins to be interested in and even if she isn't, she toys with him and kisses him and generally uses him for whatever she needs at that moment with again, the action taking place in the last fifty pages of the book.
Nora, to put it bluntly, seems simply stupid. She jumps to all kinds of conclusions and believes pretty much anything that anyone tells her. If someone told her that if she jumped high enough she could land on the moon, well, she'd try it. (Yes, I am exaggerating, but not by much.)
Both the first book and this one follow the same basic arc. Not much happens as Nora runs about, gathering information, but seeing it incorrectly, and then in the last chapter all is revealed. Nora, once again, believes Patch wants her dead and yet she still is crazy about him . . . or simply crazy. Her leaps of illogic based on faulty information were piled one on top of the other until the whole thing becomes a mess.
And there were extremely drawn out bits of plot that in the end went nowhere. Example: Nora goes to a party at Marcie's house.
First she has to talk Vee into going with her/taking her since she doesn't have a car. That conversation dragged back and forth when you knew all along that Vee would agree to go. And why are they going to Marcie's party, a girl whom neither one likes and vice versa? So Nora can find out for certain what's going on between Patch and Marcie, although she supposedly already knows this and has already seen them together.
Anyway, they go to the party and after some looks at Patch, angst, thoughts of how much she still wants him, yaddayadda, she sneaks up to Marcie's room to check for USED CONDOMS!!! Seriously, that's her plan, to find used condoms. (Is she then planning to take them for DNA testing? I mean, they could be anyone's used condoms, not neccessarily Patch's, couldn't they?)
So Nora almost gets caught and during her getaway, she "accidentally" steals Marcie's diary and is rescued by Patch . . . again. Now, she has the diary, but does she even so much as crack it to find out all the stuff she wanted to know, her supposed reason for going to the party and sneaking into Marcie's room? Of course not, because she isn't a teenage girl, she's some kind of saint. *eye roll* Her guilt is too overwhelming. Really? Are you kidding me? This is her worst enemy, the girl who goes out of her way to be mean to her, and she won't look in her diary, even to see what is really happening between her and Patch? Nonsense.
Nora decides to take it back, to leave it on Marcie's porch of all things and she gets caught by Marcie who then shouts at her and tells her what's in it. All of that action only to be TOLD what's in it. Then how about leaving all of that out and have Marcie yell at her and tell her what's in it, I don't know, about three hundred pages ago.
And everything, everything, everything is high drama. Each feeling is so above typical. She can't merely walk down a dark street without feeling a chill of dread down her spine. Well, then quit going out alone and walking down dark streets alone.
Also, the ending is such a jumble, with all this info being dropped out of nowhere, that I had to read one parapgraph three times and I still didn't understand exactly what was being said. That isn't good writing. When you're revealing the whole thing it should be crystal clear, not still a muddy muddle.
This series isn't bad, but what it isn't, is neccessary to be a series. There hasn't been enough action in these two books to warrant two books. They could have been combined, likely including what will be the third one, tightened up, with tons of running about for no apparent reason edited out and maybe, maybe, been ONE good book. As it is, not so much. But idiot that I am, I'll still read the third one, because that's just the way I am and I am just barely interested enough to know how it all ends. So I guess the joke's on me, isn't it?

Oh, one more thing. Guardian angels can and obviously do have sex, (note all the Nephilim) but are forbidden to love. Patch can sex it up with Marcie or anyone else all he wants, but because he actually loves Nora (did anyone doubt for a single second that he didn't?) he can't be with her. What kind of angel world is this? So as long as he only lusts(which being one of the seven deadly sins would be a big no-no, I would think) it's all fine and dandy.
This. Makes. No. Sense. Whatsoever.
