Haunted by Your Touch is an anthology that includes paranormal stories from: Shayla Black’s Doomsday Brethren series, Sharie Kohler’s werewolf series, and an original novel by Jeanine Frost.

Jeaniene Frost's story is a departure from her vampire series. This story has a somewhat lighter tone than her vampire books. It involves a young woman named Mara. Mara is part demon and she is on a mission. She has decided to cross over to another realm called Nocturna where she hopes to mete justice upon the Purebloods that stole her cousin and drained her life. As a partial demon her kind are vunerable to the Purebloods who must feed on them to live. Mara puts her life in danger trying to hunt down her cousin's killer but the unexpected occurs with the sudden appearance of the dangerous leader Rafael. He is the ruler of Notcurna and Mara is convinced he knows more than he reveals about her cousin’s death.
This story is told in 1st person and it had many interesting twists that kept me on my toes. But overall, I think I would have enjoyed it in 3rd person a little better. There was nothing wrong with the story but I didn’t find is as exciting as her vampire series. 4 stars

In Shayla Black’s story she returns to her Doomsday series. Raiden is a well known lothario but his secret is that he actually really cares for Tabitha the mother of his unborn child. Unfortunately, he feels he is not good enough for her and therefore purposely hurts her by treating her poorly. But when her family is attacked and she is believed to be dead Raiden knows he must find the truth.
Raiden’s pain and anguish as he tries to discover why Tabitha‘s family was targeted was a moving read. Although Raiden finally acknowledges his love I wish he had treated Tabitha less callously even if it was supposed to be for ‘her own good.’ This was a solid read but because of behavior Raiden’s character was difficult to like initially. However, fans will enjoy glimpses of previous characters in this story. 4 stars

Sharie Kohler’s story was my favorite. She revisits her paranormal werewolf series. In this story we are again treated to a world where werewolves are uncontrollable beasts that are hunted for the safety of all. Lily finds herself in an untenable situation when her ladies night out results in a savage a werewolf massacre. Her friend is killed and Lily is bitten. Resulting in her turning into a werewolf if she cannot kill the werewolf responsible for her bite within the next full moon.
This story had a very surprising ending. I felt the outcast hero named Luc deserved a measure of happiness. He has been exiled and knows the danger of a loose werewolf. But he still feels compassion for Lily. So instead of putting her down before she succumbs to the werewolf madness he takes care of her. I admired that he had the strength and conscience to treat her far better than humans or werewolves have treated him by giving her a chance. I really felt these 2 deserved each other and I enjoyed the unexpected and delightful happy ending. 5 stars

All these stories were easy to read. Jeaniene Frost’s and Sharie Kohler’s plots were more complex and I loved the twists and turns in each storyline. Fans of their books will definitely want to read this anthology. However, because they are novellas they are not nearly as involving as their full length stories except for Sharie Kohler’s short.

Nothing spooky about this trio of paranormal romance novellas, while I was expecting ghostly themed romances, all the stories were instead 'mate' hookups. But since most of the pairs had a history, the mate bond didn't have to do all of the work. And even though these were short, all of the authors fit a decent amount of story and world building in their offerings.

Though he saved her from her cousin's fate, the gorgeous ruler Raphael is hiding something and despite her attraction to him, Mara is determined to discover just what that might be - Raphael's secret adds an element to his claiming of Mara that I really liked.

Shayla Black's "Mated" is a Doomsday Brethren short. Raiden is from a defective branch of the Brethen, his family has lost the ability to sense their mates and they no longer settle down with just one woman. And Raiden has no intention of breaking family tradition despite his attraction to the one woman he just can't get out of his mind. And when this former lover becomes the target of the evil enemy of his people, Raiden will struggle with his sudden need to keep her close to keep her safe when he knows that keeping her with him puts her in just as much danger = - this one works fine as a standalone, but Black starts out by reminding us of her villain's sadistic proclivities and that is one thing that keeps me from being a huge fan of her series - it's just a few lines though, and I liked the rest of the story. (Raiden's twin's story "Fated" may still be available as a free read on the author's website, otherwise it's a ebook cheapie - if your liked this story, you may want to check it out)

Sharie Kohler offers a Moon Chasers short, "Darkest Temptation". As a half-blood `were' Luc, has the power to control his wolf, but his life is an isolated one until a newly bitten woman enters his territory. Even knowing that he will have to kill her to keep her from becoming a ravening beast come the next full moon, the lovely Lily stirs something inside his lonely heart. - Both of the leads in the story were just so sympathetic and appealing, that even though it was animal attraction that forged their initial connection, I couldn't help but hope for pair to find their way to a happily ever after.

Mara is a Partial Demon who periodically travels thru a portal to Nocturna to search for her cousin Gloria, who was taken many years ago when she and Mara snuck into the world as teens. Gloria was taken by a Fullblood Demon, and Fullbloods feed on the essence of Partials. The leader of this world is Rafael (not Raphael) who has taken quite an interest in Mara over the years for reasons that she is soon to find out. Mara wants to avenge the loss of her cousin, and needs Rafael's help to do so.

Enjoyable story, with a nice twist at the end regarding Rafael.

May come back to this one if I ever get around to reading the 'Doomsday Brethren' series. I felt there was too much backstory I didn't know to get the fullest enjoyment of the ss.

Darkest Temptation - Sharie Kohler
3 Stars. Lily was attacked at a nightclub by a Lycan, and infected. She was quickly recruited by a hunter group to go after the Lycan she was told was responsible, Luc. Lycans are killers who can't control their impulse to kill. Turns out Luc is a hybrid Lycan who can control his impulses. He feels something for Lily, and decides to help her through her first month before she turns Lycan.

This was also part of a series, but the backstory was easy to pick up on. The sex scenes, which came early and often, pretty much over-powered the story. The story was enjoyable enough; but there just wasn't enough to it. It was just the two of them for most of the story; then in the last few pages a battle, and then suddenly an HEA. Then it was over. Doubt I'll read any more from this author.

NDE c'est en effet le récit des aventures de Mara, une jeune femme mi humaine mi démon qui part pour le royaume de Nocturna afin de venger la mort de sa cousine.
Elle vit dans un monde normal (le nôtre?) où les dimensions démoniaques sont invisibles des humains mais accessibles aux créatures de la nuit.
Uai uai, jusques là vous vous dîtes "bof bof", faut voir.. Ah oui, mais je ne vous ai pas encore parlé de Rafaël, le shérif de Nocturna, le bogoss mystérieux-mais-accessible. Le héros sombre, ténébreux qui vous donne des frissons dans le bas du..du dos!

Bon, héros ultra sexy mis à part, ce qui fait la richesse du texte c'est le nouvel univers créé par JF. Dans First Drop of Crimson, elle avait déjà essayé (et avec succès) de créer une nouvelle mythologie démoniaque, dans notre cas la toile se resserre. On apprends que le monde des démons est divisé en plusieurs races: Les Fallen (anges déchus), les Pureblood (100 % démons) et les Partials ( mouet mouet) qui évoluent dans des mondes parallèles aux notres.
En outre, le royaume de Nocturna dans lequel se déroule l'action est interessant dans la mesure où il permet de faire une croix sur le monde réel (lieux commun chez JF) et surtout sur les vampires et autres goules qui sont le quotidien de chaque Frosties.
Tiens, en parlant de lieux communs, il va falloir que je me renseigne pour savoir ce que JF a avec l'eau... Douche, baignoire et maintenant piscine! Wooow Rien de quoi rivaliser avec Menche mais quand même, pas mal du tout!
En bref, une petite nouvelle bien sympathique et qui se lit facilement. Même si le monde change, la seule constante c'est le talent de JF qui nous prouve que tout ce qu'elle touche devient de l'or.

This was not what I expected. I think, I expected this to be a side book from one of her vampire series. I really enjoyed this Novella. It might have been short, but it felt complete with a interesting and intriguing plot, engaging characters, and a fast pace. Half of me thinks, this would make a cool new series, the other half thinks, that this was the ideal short story...complete with beginning, middle and end. Either way, it was well done and a fun read.

Raiden believes he doesn't have what it takes to be mated. He doesn't believe he could commit and he doesn't believe, he would be alive long enough for it to matter. But, the mother of his child was missing, her home burned to the ground, and her family all dead. When he discovered Tabitha was alive and that she had something Matthias wanted, he began to struggle with letting her mate with someone else to keep her safe or keeping her.

This was a good story. While it could be a stand alone, I think it would be more prudent to read the series. It will go a long way in explaining the Brethern and Matthias. Personally, I wouldn't have put up with all that Tabitha did. Although, he did appear to love her and wanted what was best for her, I personally prefer a man who loves me and is sure of himself, especially one complaining of commitment issues.

Darkest Temptation by Sharie Kohler
This was a simple and quick novella, about the bait becoming the prey. After a girls night out goes horriably wrong, her friends are massacred and she is left bitten, Lily searches for the alpha she believes in resposible. She is led to believe that if she doesn't kill the alpha, then she will become a werewolf before the next full moon. She sets her self up as bait for Luc, who she has been told is the alpha. When she learns that Luc is not her alpha, he offers to help her and during thier time, they fall in love.

This was a good novella. While I liked the premise of the story, I felt it was a bit dull. I think there could have been more action, perhaps intrigue...For some reason, it feels like it was done before.

Frost gave us some very racy scenes that had me longing, with an interesting plot and outcome. I definitely wanted more of Nocturna...

Shayla Black takes us on an emotional ride as we fall instantly in love with Raiden and Tabitha. Raiden has given Tabitha her dream, but can he follow through? Of course, you are not left seeking any thing with this short, my favorite sexy scenes are intense.

Sharie Kohler, who I must thank for this ARC, wrapped me quickly with her short based on her Moonchasers series, which I LOVE. Luc is unique and thrown into a difficult situation. As Lycan with a twist he is out to be killed, when his murderer is a gorgeous woman that has his remembering his past. While trying to save her, he is stuck helping her cope with her change, and giving her what she needs. THANKFULLY, that is sweaty sex :) I can't wait for the next Moonchasers book, My Soul to Keep.

Needless to say, but necessary, I LOVED this anthology. The shorts were the perfect length, I was left breathlessly waiting for more. I hope these 3 team up again, and I am definitely longing for more of all 3 of them. I was in the world, detailed that I felt right along with the characters. The "romance" was hard, fast, slow, sensual, that's right, all the ways we need it. All three stories had action and suspense. I give it 4 1/2 slices :) (less)

This book has three paranormal romance novellas. Now, I'm generally more of an epic kind of girl so I always feel novellas end far too soon but I enjoyed these.

The first one is the tale of a part-demon girl who crosses between dimensions to find out what happened to her cousin. I had very high hopes sailing into this one...it is not often that you get an anthology where you are a fan of ALL the authors in an anthology. Not to mention, two of the three stories are from series I follow. But I have to say I was disappointed, and can only say this was Ok.

For a great story you need to read about Mara and the Leader of Nocturna Raphael. This is a story with a amazing twist. This is the first of three stories in this book.

The second book author in this book is Shayla Black. To be honest I've never heard of Shayla nor have I read anything by her until this book. Her story is about the Doomsday Brethren, there magical warriors who try to protect our realm from evil Wizards. We have one Brethren in particular who is trying to protect a Witch name Tabitha who is carrying his youngling. This story has love them leave them men in it. But it also has a hard to resist love story between some of the characters. You see one of the Brethren thinks he's incapable of loving anyone or mating to them. Let's say you have to read this story to see how everything works out. I don't think we've heard the last of Shayla on the Doomsday Brethren.

The last story and author we have is Sharie Kohler her story about the Lycans will have you reading up and more about the Lore of the Lycans. Our story is about Lilly, she is attacked and she is told if she kills her Alpha she can become human again. She meets a mysterious man named Luc who she is told is her Alpah. She trys to take his life and this is where the story picks up. Please take the time to read thes wonderful writings, I promise you, you wont regreat it.

Oh what can I say. I LOVED the short story from Jeaniene Frost. If she develops it into another series I will be there drooling for Raphael. In a way he does remind me a little bit of Bones. He's a bit arrogant with reason, he's strong, smart and sexy as hell. Plus he is in love with one woman only. He's a bit more willing to allow Mara to do her own thing and is less chauvinistic than Bones can be around Cat. AND with Jeaniene Frost you know you are going to get some sexy time in the book. It has only been recently that I have been able to really appreciate anthologies. In the past they have been an irksome expense endured to possess a missing story from a beloved author to fill-in gaps in an ongoing series. I did not truly appreciate them until I began to have crossovers; new series I found and loved that happened to have shorts in anthologies I already owned. It was like finding gold buried on my shelves. All new stories by authors I loved in series I was hooked on that I already had—just waiting to be read. It was a kind of a eureka moment. And I finally realized what I am sure both authors and publishers expect to be apparent at the start—indeed a partial reason behind anthologies—that if you like one author’s writing in them, odds are you might like some of the others. Stupid simple, but hey, I’m a simple kinda gal…sometimes it takes me a while to grasp seemingly obvious ideas. It is with this in mind that I read through Haunted by Your Touch, and while one of the stories did leave me flat I also found an author I’ve never read before and enjoyed their work. So, fair trade.
“Night’s Darkest Embrace” by Jeaniene Frost
When I bought this anthology I did so mainly for Ms. Frost’s contribution to it; tho I have to admit I was under the impression that this story was set in her Night Huntress series. When I read “Night’s Darkest Embrace” and discovered it was in a new and different world I was somewhat surprised, surprised but overjoyed because—just as most of Ms. Frost’s works that I have read thus far—it is a wonderful story. Set in a reality where Fallen Angels, Demons and Partials (those who only have a percent of demon blood) can travel to different dimensions this short novella had me love the characters from the moment I met them. The world building was immersive, and the plot moved so that you were never quite sure where it would take you next, but were eager for the ride. This story also had Ms. Frost’s scorch-marks very much in evidence; the passion was explosive and like in any good romance novel love made sure of a happy ending. I lapped up all 156 pages of this story and would be thrilled to pieces if Ms. Frost ever chose to return to this world and write another dose of wonderful.
I give this story five stars.

“Mated” by Shayla Black
This story was my first taste of Ms. Black’s writing, and I have to say that I would go back for seconds. Set in the “Doomsday Brethren” series, “Mated” was a fun mage-type story that despite being thrown into a universe that I was unfamiliar with managed to stand on its own. In this evocative tale Ms. Black let me feel the measure of the world she had created and care for not just the central characters but have a relationship with several more that I gather already had their own stories told. While this particular world may not be one I will seek out again, as I am not much for the evil-wizard-taking-over-the-world bit I was still impressed by the feel that was created. Ms. Black’s characterization was the redeeming factor for me, the intimacy and feeling she was able to induce with her characters, even when they were being obstinate in realizing it touched a chord with me. She managed to capture me in her 121 pages, and for that I will keep my eye out for other possible works she may create.
I give this story three stars.

“Darkest Temptation” by Sharie Kohler
In the hit and miss world of the anthology this story was a miss for me. I’ll admit it, I couldn’t even read it all the way through. I’m sure that Ms. Kohler is wonderful in her craft, but this story and writing just rubbed me the wrong way. Full of werewolves and hunters and an attacked heroine I just couldn’t hack it long enough to experience the story. Hopefully if you give it a try your mileage will vary.

Normally I am not a big fan of short stories so I usually give 2 or 3 stars by default, because they are simply too short for any real plot and character development. Night’s Darkest Embrace by Jeaniene Frost
I give this one 4 stars. With this particular one written by JF, I thought the story was good, packed with actions, elements of romance, and actually told a story quite well. I found that I enjoyed this quite a bit. The idea that there were realms in between the human world and the demon world was quite interesting. Well, it actually reminded me a bit of Ilona Andrews’ Edge series, but in essence this world was not really the same as the Edge, but there were indeed similarities.

I’ve never read any books by Shayla Black. Based on this short, it’d appear to me as though it was part of an existing series, as it had references to things that had already happened, a war that was brewing etc. Considering that I had no context to this world that the author built, I thought the story told was somewhat interesting – a tormented warrior mage (Raiden) fell in love with a hottie (Tabitha) but was too afraid to commit so he was willing to give up the love of his life and his unborn child to another man who was better equipped to take care of them. Well, it was okay, but at the same time I found the guy annoying. On the one hand, he wanted a good life for the woman, but on the other he couldn’t keep his hands off of her. This was just WRONG!!! Anyway, while I thought the story was long enough to convey the story and it had a happy ending (as expected), I’d only give it a 2.5 star rating.

Darkest Temptation by Sharie Kohler
Again, I’ve not read any books by this author. I have no idea if this was part of an existing series or not. It took me a while to understand that the male lead (Luc) was a shapeshifter who could shift at will (not confined to the lunar cycles) and that this was different from a lycan. Lily, the female protagonist, was sent to kill Luc, thinking that by doing so would free herself of the lycan virus. Having no idea of what this was all about, I just thought this was plain stupid. Not for an instance would I buy into this crap about a regular mundane girl, who happened to have been bitten by a lycan wolf, would suddenly find the courage and strength to kill someone who she had never met. It just seemed very unconvincing and unnatural. The instant attraction that Luc felt towards Lily also felt more like lust than love. Anyway, I found myself not really getting into the story at all. I give this one only 2 stars.

On the whole I give this book 3 stars (it’s sort of like an average of the 3 stories).

A very pleasant romance with a good dose of adventure. Several plot turns were visible from miles away, but for a romantic novella I don't mind when that happens. I do wonder if Frost's longer stories suffer from the same flaw though. Still I think I might try other books by Frost in the future.

I am a big fan of Jeaniene Frost. Her Cat & Bones series is one of my favorites. So her name on the cover was a good enough reason for me to try the anthology "Haunted by Your Touch."

Her contribution, "Night's Darkest Embrace," is a departure from her usual vampire fare. This novella features a partial demon, Mara. She journeys to the demon realm of Nocturna to avenge the death of her cousin. But while she searches for answers, she crosses paths with Rafael, the leader of Nocturna. She has been attracted to him for years, but knows that he keeps secrets about himself and his connection to the full blooded demons (who killed her cousin.) So she convinces him to bring her to his home on the pretext of sex. While there, she plans to search for answers. The only problem is, her feeling for him are too real to fake.

The chemistry between Mara and Rafe is off the charts. And Frost can write the heck out of her love scenes. There was a lot of world building in this short story, so you have to pay attention. But I really enjoyed it. When all was said and done, I was left wondering how Rafe managed to be a good guy with the lineage he has... but that lingering question wasn't enough to take away from my enjoyment of the story.

The second novella, "Mated," is part of Shayla Black's ongoing Doomsday series. I've never read any of those books, but after this short story, I will definitely give them a try. Raiden is a wizard who has lived a life more interested in loving than fighting. But he is now part of the Doomsday brethren... a group of seven guys who fight evil. He is in love with Tabby and got her pregnant (presumably in some earlier book in the series), but he doesn't think he can give her the life she deserves, so he refuses to mate with her. He thinks he has put her out of his life, but an evil wizard kills her family and now Tabby is in terrible danger. Raiden needs to keep her safe, but can he fight his feelings now that he has her with him again?

I liked this story. Obviously, there is a lot of backstory, but it was fairly easy to jump in as a new reader. For some reason, I felt like the story was a little foreign. We had words like "knickers" and "bloody" floating around, but maybe it's supposed to be set in Britain or something. Maybe that, too, will be explained by other books in the series.

The last novella was "The Darkest Temptation," by Sharie Kohler. It was the shortest of the three and I really liked this one too. Lily has been attacked by a Lycan and she thinks that killing Luc (who she is told is the pack Alpha) will keep her from changing. Luc catches her and can't quite bring himself to kill her. The two have great chemistry from the start and I wish I had more of their story to read. My next stop will be to check out Kohler's Moon Chaser books.

A great anthology. I enjoyed all three stories and discovered two new authors. 4 1/2 stars.

I'm not impressed with this book.

The first of the three stories "Night's Darkest Embrace" by Jeaniene Frost was the best of the three, but I found that I've read a novella that had the same storyline albeit different settings and by that I mean "Pack" it was a story featured in another anthology and in the mammoth book of paranormal romance. I only read the story by Jeaniene Frost. This is the first story of her's that was not about Bones and company. I was not sure if I would like it or not. I have read books from authors in the past where I only liked characters in that series. I could not stand anything else they wrote. That is not the case here. I loved this story. I went into this book as a skeptic. I am so comfortable in the Night Huntress world as a reader, that I was wishing that this was a C&B short. That lasted about two seconds once I started reading. Fallen angels, demons and a world in another dimension. I was so pleased with the experience that at the end of the story, I realized that I hadn't thought about Cat and Bones at all and became completed engrossed in the world of Nocturna.

Haunted by Your Touch is a collection of three stories from sizzling paranormal romance authors.

The first is Night's Darkest Embrace by Jeaniene Frost. Set in a world of dimension jumping demons it's rife with emotion, mainly of the tragic and vengeance kind. Mara is a quarter demon, strong enough to cross over to Nocturna, a wild west/Victorian era feeling dimension of demons. When she was a teen she and her cousin ran afoul of some Full Blood demons, who feed on Parials like herself. Since then she's dedicated her life to finding her cousin's killer.

The world is neat and intriguing except for the repeated reminder that even simple machines like watches don't work in Nocturna, yet somehow guns do. The plot is certainly not terrible, but it depends on a misunderstanding that's plain as day. Overall the story is interesting, vivid and clips along nicely, but the misunderstanding twist adds a sheen of cliché to it that's disappointing.

Next up is Mated by Shayla Black, the weakest of the three (which isn't saying much). This tale of wizards caught up in a dangerous battle against an evil wizard back from the dead who wants to take over the world features at least one powerful, headstrong lead, Raiden, an unabashed womanizer who discovers the home of the woman he knocked up has been attacked and the family is believed to be dead.

The emotion is sizzling in this tale, but it reads like an adult, sexed up version of Harry Potter (imagine Harry Potter meets True Blood). In addition Raiden is an utter jerk and his love Tabby mostly spends her time being rescued and hoping that Raiden will admit he loves her. Which leads to either an abusive feel (at worst), or a jerk of a hero and a weak heroine who can barely do a spell to save herself. While well written, and emotionally powerful I also found it disappointing.

Finally is Darkest Temptation by Sharie Kohler. This one is a complete score, hitting on the old wolfman legend by pitting a newly bitten woman, set up by a hunter to kill someone she thinks is the werewolf whose death can return her soul, with a nearly inhuman man who is neither werewolf or man, but something else.

This one I enjoyed a lot, both the tension between the characters and the doomed feel of Lilly's life (even before she was bitten by a lycan). It's only real flaw is that after a great start there's a hiccup as it rushes to finish the story in a short form.

Despite some disappointment I'd give this book a solid three stars, because the writing is there, I think the stories just didn't strike the right chord with this reader.(less)

I really enjoyed this one -- it wasn't her "usual" (that is, it seemed to have nothing to do with the Night Huntress series, at least not that I recognized), but it was still quite good.

What worked for me:

*I liked the world building -- it was thorough enough that you got the basic gist of things without bogging the story down with superfluous details that made you want to throw the book at the wall.

I bought this because of Ms. Frost. I completely enjoyed her story, it's different from Kat and Bones. Mara leave the human realm to go to Nocturna to avenge her cousins death from years ago. She see Raphael and realizes she still likes him. She also has her doubts about his involvement in her cousins death. He claims he wasn't involved. Mara thinks he was. You'll have to read it to find out.
