So, I don't want to be redundant and go over all the content. There are many reviews here that do a much better & more thorough job of that than I would.
I had the first in this series waiting on my kindle for a while now. I'd got it for free but still couldn't bring myself to click on it due to the unfortunate title. (I know, I know) But, seriously?
So as it turns out, I've read the first two in as many days- so obviously there's something there.

This cover was just as great as the first book, as well as the title, brilliant! So, I am sure I had already mentioned this in the review of book one, but here goes nothing: I LOVE VAL SHAPIRO. I mean, with a lot of Twilight, Vampire Diaries and True Blood around, you're kind of sick of the vampires being the protagonists and all good, except for a few bad ones. I mean, with a lot of Twilight, Vampire Diaries and True Blood around, you're kind of sick of the vampires being the protagonists and all good, except for a few bad ones. I kind of miss having all vampires be bad and a select few be good, so Parker Blue's books are awesome, especially since the protagonist is one eighth demon - Succubus of all things. Which is indeed new, having the demon not be the bad guy in this case.

The book starts off with Val attending the funeral of the rogue vampire she'd killed in book one. Her partner is giving her the cold shoulder and her boss wants her to take a few days off work. She is hating this, but gives in as her cousin Micah finds a way for her to deal with Lola her inner-demon. Shade offers his help but at some point, Val is not comfortable with that method. There's also more to Shade than meets the eye since Val doesn't know much about Shadow demons. On the other hand, Val gives up TheEncyclopedia Magicka in order to know more about her origins, only to have them get stolen the second they arrive at Club purgatory. To make matters worse, someone's tampering with vampires which puts the Vampires and Demons on edge and Val's future lies on the balance.

I enjoyed seeing more of Shade and his annoying dog - Princess. I liked how cute he and Val were together, and alright, after hearing Gwen's point, I don't hate Val's mum as much as before. I mean, I still don't like her, but it's a bit less now.

I love Parker's writing, it's so witty, smart and completely funny. I enjoy being inside Val's head - I know it's enough with Fang being there all the time and a bunch of vampires too - but still! It took me a while to get started on it, but not because of how bad it was, just being preoccupied with other things. I was so glad to get back into these stories and had completely finished the book before I even knew it!

Amazing read! Can't wait to start reading book 3!

I liked TRY ME better than BITE ME. TRY ME has a completely different dynamic than BITE ME - the Special Crimes Unit loses some of its prominence in the story as Val spends half of her time on a leave of absence, and early on in the book she breaks up with her irritating former partner/love interest, Dan. I hated Dan, so seeing Shade step forward to take his place was a huge positive in my book.

Try Me is the second book in the series Demon Underground. It starts 3 days after the end of Bite Me. We learn a lot about their world and the different demons in it.
Val is still working with the special unit of the police dept. But now they all know she is part demon some accept her some don't.

A good young adult novel, in the spirit of Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake character - think young Anita Blake, before all the boyfriends!

So Val acted the part of a good girl and handed it over to Micah, the head of the Demon Underground. But Micah stupidly, VERY stupidly(what is wrong with him?), announced to a whole crowd of half-demons and vamps that he has it, and it went missing immediately after. Lame much? Ok, so everyone was shocked and worried(yeah, i wonder who caused it..), and Val was once again on the case. And the baddies once again used her family to threaten her to lay off. But Val did lay off this time cause the consequences to not lay off seemed pretty serious. While Val was taking her much needed break, she hooked up with Shade, but found out that if she loses her virginity, she would lose her super strength, speed, senses and whatever, all said and known when she was lying on the bed with Shade half naked and all. Haha, visual overload. So the baddie's scheme was uncovered JUST as he was about "ignite" a serious war between the two factions and once again, Val saves the day(you'll get the double quotations after you read the book:)). Big surprise.

The plot was a little more complicated this time, and that made the sudden realization at the end all the more shocking. I think it was because(ok i know it is because) of the unknown parts that hooked me to this book, which showed that Blue really did her research and planning well. Cause usually if i could guess everything that was about to happen, that would just suck. Ok im ranting. Blue really know how to make the culprit look like one particular individual, then it became a whole lot of other people, and then make them seem innocent again, but were guilty in the end those sort of thing. And in a way, its kinda like those adult mystery-detective books, just simplified and supernatural-ified. Well, i prefer this, so it proves my youthfulness at heart:)

Anyway, Val is getting good at controlling her powers and her relationship improved drastically with her parents since the previous book. Her romantic status has improved from impulse-driven, sweet-sometimes-but-mostly-annoying Dan to sweet, understanding, warm and sexy Shade(on top of his moral virtues, his powers are way awesome, to boot). But she comes to a moot point in all this progress cause Blue decided to torture her(and maybe some of the readers)by placing her in a stupid dilemma- lose your powers, or lose the prospects of having a proper love life. Yeah..that sucks. But at least she can control her powers really well, AND she gets to be the one who has good relationships with the vamps and demons, which i think would make her feel more important and wanted(even tho she doesnt realise it but i think it kinda helps, indirectly at least).

Ok, not much comments cause i wouldnt say this book(or series for this matter)was THAT impressive, but more of the average kind of good? I dont know.. But i am eager to start the next book:D am i contradicting myself? ah well, all i know is that it didnt disappoint me.(less)

I really like how Val is dealing with her life. Yes, her mother threw her out of the house, but she bounced back, got a job and found a place to live. This time around Val is still dealing with Dan and his crap. I really wish that Dan would put his big boy boxers on and get over himself. He is attracted to Val, but also disgusted by her and Lola. After rereading the first one, I was excited to get to this one. I liked where the story was going and found that the continuing storyline from the first to be fun to follow. I read the author's note at the end of the book and I was glad she was intrigued with Shade and didn't keep him as a throw away character. I thought he was a fantastic addition and was glad to see he got more page time in this book.

I was so conflicted when it came to the boys in this book. On the one hand I really found the boys in this book to be gigantic boogers. Dan was an entire jerkface and Shade was just shady. Shade constantly said that he wouldn't force Val into doing anything that she wasn't comfortable with, yet he would do something like run around buck-naked. So yes, not forceful or anything *rolls eyes*. But on the other hand I couldn't help but sympathasize for them (well more so Shade than Dan). Well, he hasn't had the worlds most normal life, in fact he has had a pretty cruddy life because he is so different from any other demon (Shade is able to dwell in more than one dimension at a time, he is kinda see-throughish with blue/purplish light flowing through him, he only looks like a super gorgeous guy when someone is touching him because they ground him in this dimension). As for Dan? Well he just had a really hard time accepting the fact that the girl he was falling for wasn't exactly who she said she was.

But Val? Well, I wasn't conflicted about her at all! I loved seeing her become even more kick-butt and I loved seeing how her and Lola started to really cooperate with one another/ learn how to live with one another. I also found Val to be quite mature in this book. When she really wanted to do something but discovered what the consequences would be, she figuratively sat down and weighed the pros and cons of carrying out said action, she didn't just do anything without giving it lots of thought.

And once again I really loved Fang, Fang is hands down the snarkiest character in this book. And somewhat surpringsly I also found myself liking Alejandro quite a bit. I just found him to be such an intriguing character.

All in all I think that this is a really great YA series that transcends the YA category, fans of adult UF/PNR will like this just as much, if not more, than teens. Also, if you like Chloe Neill's "Chicagoland Vampires" series I think you will love this! (less)

Even though I have not read the first book in this series, I found it surprisingly accessible to a first-time reader of Blue's work. This definitely fits the YA genre, but I have to disagree with the idea floating around that this bridges the YA-Adult fiction divide.

It took me a while to get into the story because I didn't read the first book. At first, I also had difficulty with the very colloquial style of writing, but after I got used to it, it was fine. It reflected the first person narrative told by a young adult, after all.

The novel was a positive surprise. I read a lot of paranormal books but I've never heard of this author so I was excited to give the novel a try (It did beg to Try Me. ;))

Val is a bad ass vampire slayer/succubus and you're thrown into action from the start. Val was funny and smart witted with her sarcastic behavior. I found myself laughing out loud a few times. I liked that Val was independent and didn't always depend on a guy to help rescue her in fact, she did a lot of the rescuing and protecting.

This book, like the first one, wasn't terrible or outstanding. There are some good things going on, including semi-involved parents (quite an achievement, considering YA's tendency to kill off parental figures!) and a strong female protagonist.

The main not-so-good thing for me is the writing. While it's not awful, it continues to come across as forced and stilted. When describing characters' expressions, it's simply "[Insert character here] looked sad". No elaboration, just "sad". There's also...more

Val Shapiro is back and this time she is not just another a vampire slayer. She is a teenager is learning to control her inner demon-literally. She is an eighth of a succubus-a lust demon. Though it will take time, she is hopeful that it means that she will be safe with her partner is appears to be slowly accepting Lola, her succubus. Well it looked that way until Val and Dan are no longer partners, Lola-her secret weapon and succubus side- is revealed to the other SCU officers, and Dan gets a new partner. Val is partnered with Shade, a shadow demon, on her next case. They must find the Encyclopedia Magicka books before they end up in the wrong hands. On top of her partnership with Dan dissolving, the missing books, and her growing (and confusing) attraction to Shade –who’s supposed to help her learn to control Lola, the few good vampires in town are turning mad and going after innocents. That’s nothing compared to the deal that she makes with Alejandro and the revelation about her unusual strength and speed that Shade lays on her. But it’s all in the day and life of Val Shapiro. If anyone can handle this and save her town, it’s Val.

I really like this one because there is more depth to the characters. While Bite Me seemed mostly just a good sit down and read story, Try Me seems where the characters really come to life. There is still action and mystery and angst. But I found it a lot easier to visualize the characters, the dialogue was easier to grasp definitely dripped with the characters’ inflection. This series has turned out to be one heck of a ride. I am glad that everything that Val thought she knew in the first book is being challenged in this one. While I like Dan, I don’t like him for Val, so I am very glad that she has someone else to focus on. I love the quips that go back and forth between Val and Fang, it’s hilarious!
Another thing that I really like about Try Me is that the demons are used creatively. Though the Demon Underground is for those that find that they aren’t really normal but want to live peacefully with the humans around them, they are still demons. Though they want to make nice with the humans, they have not lost their dark side. It’s more of a conscious choice for some more than others, but it another layer added on to the characters which creates potential. Potential in this series is a powerful in and of itself. I am excited to find out what happens next.
Sometimes it’s hard to find that balance of leaving readers hanging with a story that carries on into the next book, and tying up loose strings enough for the current book to have some closure. Parker Blue has found a nice way to find this balance. While, the immediate objectives (the safety of the supernatural and mundanely human population) are always met, the action that is secondary or happening in the periphery is left to be the focus of the next book. Meanwhile some of the vamps from the "New Blood Movement" are acting rather crazy and no one knows why so its up to Val and her faithful hellhound to figure how why they are acting crazy.

Try me is a good sequel to Bite Me. I really enjoyed it once I got into it. At first it didn't grab me straight away like the first one. I just thought it was slow for the first couple of chapters. However, I did get into and the loved. Val is mainly still the same as book one. Strong, loyal but deep down vulnerable she still just wants to be accepted as her. She is really hurt when Dan starts to give her the cold shoulder but she is distracted when Shade starts to help her control lust demon. Now I love Shade, he is perfect for Val they bought just fit together and its perfect. He clearly cares for Val and because he is part demon himself he accepts Val for what she is that makes her happy. And of course my favourite character is back with his attitude and cuteness. Yes, Fang is still the best character and still makes me laugh. I want a hellhound.

I really should speak a little about the vampires. I never mentioned them in the first review. The head Vampire Alejandro set up the "New Blood Movement" in the first book. This is where they have human "donate" blood so they aren't feeding and killing human. I really liked this idea. And of course there are vamps who are against. In Try Me, some of the vamps are going crazy after drinking the blood. I'm still undecided on if I like the vampires in this series or not. I do like how they are not killing human but I'm still unsure about them.

Overall, Try me a good sequel to Bite me. Its a must read for Demon Underground fans. It's full of passion, friendship and mystery.

Then her cousin, Micah contacts her and asks her to attend an event at the club he owns. She brings the magical encyclopedia her father entrusted into her care and it is stolen. Then, something strange begins happening at the vampire blood banks. Violence breaks out and Val must intercede.

When she goes to the station to talk to her boss, she discovers that the team of people she works with, thinks she is a vampire. She is outraged and decides in her anger to let them know of her part demon nature. At first, they are appalled, then they request she gives them a demonstration of her abilities. This prompts her boss to continue her leave of absence. Oh, and did I mention that they have hire a new girl, Nicole and she has eyes for Dan? Oops, that is sure to go over well!

While reeling from the realization that she and Dan will not be together, Val is paired up with Shade so that she can learn to siphon off some of her succubus powers. This is Micah's idea and what he hadn't count on is that Shade and Val begin to develop feelings for one another. However, if they consummate their relationship, it could have dire consequences for Val and right now she needs to work on locating the stolen books and discovering what is causing the vampires to freak out in anger.

This story really provides insight into the roots of bigotry and hatred. That cause is ignorance (always has been and always will be). Vampire cannot stomach demons, demons cannot stomach vampires, and humans don't like either. What I love about Val is while she is constantly either being shunned, suffering the prejudices and misconceptions of others, she continues to promote peace and tolerance. In many respects, she is more adult than the ones who are in control.

I am truly enjoying this series and think I might have found another favorite. I cannot wait to read the third book in the series, "Fang Me." It promises to provide more complications that anyone could have predicted for poor Val. However, knowing her, she will deal with it all with finese and style.(less)

Try Me continues the story of Valentine "Val" Shapiro, our 18 year old heroine who's 1/8th succubus demon. The story picks up right after the events in the first book, Bite Me. Val's figured out in the previous book that her attempts to keep Lola, her succubus demon, under wraps and as a separate piece of herself was failing miserably. In addition, she's becoming more attached to and interested in the Demon Underground and also drawn into the world of the vampires.

I really became attached to Val in this book. She's really taking a lot on her shoulders at such a young age but aside from some typical teenage moments she manages to take it all in stride. The book contains some nice developments about Val's demon and how it affects her. She's making strides in coming to terms with Lola and getting intimate with her potential new love interest, Shade, but she has to really do some thinking about how far she wants to take this. I was a bit surprised by how little Dan is in this book. Sure, Val is trying to move on with hot demon Shade but she seemed pretty infatuated with Dan in the first book and the beginning of this one. Although, on the other hand, I'm somewhat relieved she's moved on from Dan since I didn't quite understand their relationship and he clearly couldn't accept her for who she is, demon and all. Being part demon himself, Shade has no such issues and their scenes together are pretty steamy. for a young adult book. I'm definitely hoping Shade sticks around since he seems to be great for her confidence and is able to provide that intimacy and support that she's been missing for so long.

The plot also moves along swiftly. There's a great mixing of the demons and vampires in this book with Val stuck right in the middle. I've really learned to trust her gut instincts so I like seeing her stick to her guns and really get right in the middle of things. Despite her age, she becomes the voice of reason in a lot of ways. And as always, the supporting characters are fabulous. Fang had me cracking up again and the cast of demons and vamps are so vivid. It was a fun read all around and I'm looking forward to jumping into the next book immediately!

Book two in the Demons Underground series, Try Me, picks up with the fall out from the final battle scene in Bite Me. Val’s back to feeling left out and ostracized this time by both her mother and her co-workers. Good thing she has the demon underground to fall back on. One person in particular, Shade is proving to be a valuable asset and possibly more.

Shade is a demon unlike any I’ve ever read about before. His face is like a black, swirly hole unless he is touching someone. He is also a healer and a gentle young man who you don’t want to see mad for unknown reasons. (Well, unknown in the beginning of the book. You’ve got to find out what happens when this dude gets pissed. It is totally worth it.)

Fang is still great and this book introduced a love interest for the hellhound, a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/hellhound. Kind of funny how the spaniel thinks she’s a purebred spaniel, but is really a hellhound mix. The scenes involving the dogs will have you laughing out loud.

Try Me is all about a possible war between demons and the “good” vampires. Demons seem to be around when bad things happen to vampires and the vampires are reacting. It’s rather obvious that the missing books are related to the vampire problem and you will probably see what’s coming from a mile away. The fun part comes in the form of the particulars of the story which aren’t as clear.

Pass this book on or ditch it? Pass it on, baby! The action scenes are vivid and the “will they reconcile” scenes revolving around Val and her mother are nail-biting. (I don’t like Val’s mother; she isn’t much of a mom.) Get the word out there about this fast paced, easy to read series. I couldn’t wait to start reading book three.

This book was so much better than the first one, and I really enjoyed reading it. The book was well written and funny at times, and much more cohesive than the first one.

I love that Val gains more confidence in this book and is better able to control her demon, Lola. She already kicks butt, so her gaining more control just makes her all the better. We find out some things about why she is so strong, and now I'm so worried about what will happen in the next couple of books.

This book was okay. Not nearly as good as the first book in the series, but still good. I basically read them back to back, and this one just sort of pales in comparison. And oddly, the kindle version has no way of differentiating Fangs speech from regular text (unlike the first book, which had a bold font).

There is so much potential here, and some of the elements Blue introduces in this new installment are really cool. Unfortunately, what could be cool continues to be ruined by what is consistently bad.

For the sake of brevity (and my sanity; honestly I'd just like to get this series over with), we're going to take a page from Gwen's book and do this in bullets.
