3.5 out of 5
Back again with 1/8 succubus and badass vampire hunter Val Shapiro, Parker Blue's Try Me doesn't ignore the events of the just-ended Bite Me, but nor does it continue along on the same plotline. Instead of focusing on Val/Dan/Fang vampire hunting for the supernatural police force of the Supernatural Crimes Unit, Val is much more involved with the titular Demon Underground in the second outing of the series. I liked the shift of focus fro...more

So, I don't want to be redundant and go over all the content. There are many reviews here that do a much better & more thorough job of that than I would.
I had the first in this series waiting on my kindle for a while now. I'd got it for free but still couldn't bring myself to click on it due to the unfortunate title. (I know, I know) But, seriously?
So as it turns out, I've read the first two in as many days- so obviously there's something there.

This cover was just as great as the first book, as well as the title, brilliant! So, I am sure I had already mentioned this in the review of book one, but here goes nothing: I LOVE VAL SHAPIRO. I mean, with a lot of Twilight, Vampire Diaries and True Blood around, you're kind of sick of the vampires being the protagonists and all good, except for a few bad ones. I kind of miss having all vampires be bad and a select few be good, so Parker Blue's books are awesome, especially since the protagonis...more
Review for Try Me
I couldnt wait to read the second book in this amazing series. I couldnt sleep I had to read and finish this book,it was that good.
Val Sharpio was settling into her new life as a member of the special department in the police and as a half demon. As well as a member of the demon underground which is run by her cousin he is a half demon. She is still hunting vampires and other things that hunt humans. She is trying to keep peace between demons and vampires. The leaders of the vam...more

I liked TRY ME better than BITE ME. TRY ME has a completely different dynamic than BITE ME - the Special Crimes Unit loses some of its prominence in the story as Val spends half of her time on a leave of absence, and early on in the book she breaks up with her irritating former partner/love interest, Dan. I hated Dan, so seeing Shade step forward to take his place was a huge positive in my book.

Try Me is the second book in the series Demon Underground. It starts 3 days after the end of Bite Me. We learn a lot about their world and the different demons in it.
Val is still working with the special unit of the police dept. But now they all know she is part demon some accept her some don't.
Dan is having problems dealing with Lola.
Miacah tells Val that since the special book that told about the demons world was lost they don't know a lot about the different demons and their powers.

A good young adult novel, in the spirit of Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake character - think young Anita Blake, before all the boyfriends!
Val is part demon (succubus), half human - toss in she's only eighteen, kicked out of her house so she won't negatively influence her younger sister, and hunts down bad demons in her spare time - she's got a lot on her plate. Fiercely independent, determined to not let her demon rule her (by killing any member of the opposite sex she might show interest in)...more

Val has solved the myestery of who was the head bad vamp in the previous book, but a week after that, Dan, Val's detective partner and supposed-lover, starts ignoring her when a new female detective enters the Special Crimes Unit(SCU). Val is sad and heartbroken and Dan is being his usual jerkish, mood-swingish self to her. Amidst all her emotional turmoils, she was informed that the books that were the last and only things left for her from her dead demon father, the Encyclopedia Magicka, is ac...more
I really like how Val is dealing with her life. Yes, her mother threw her out of the house, but she bounced back, got a job and found a place to live. This time around Val is still dealing with Dan and his crap. I really wish that Dan would put his big boy boxers on and get over himself. He is attracted to Val, but also disgusted by her and Lola. He needs to figure out exactly what he feels and then acknowledge it to himself and Val. I think if he did that they both would be happier. At this poi...more
After rereading the first one, I was excited to get to this one. I liked where the story was going and found that the continuing storyline from the first to be fun to follow. I read the author's note at the end of the book and I was glad she was intrigued with Shade and didn't keep him as a throw away character. I thought he was a fantastic addition and was glad to see he got more page time in this book.

This is a review of the first two books combined.
I was able to get all three copies of the Demon Underground series through Netgalley as a package deal, Bite Me, Try Me, and Fang Me. So, basically I'm reviewing the series thus far. I believe it is an on going series, but I have yet to read the third, so I don't know for sure if there is a finale. I highly doubt it.

I was so conflicted when it came to the boys in this book. On the one hand I really found the boys in this book to be gigantic boogers. Dan was an entire jerkface and Shade was just shady. Shade constantly said that he wouldn't force Val into doing anything that she wasn't comfortable with, yet he would do something like run around buck-naked. So yes, not forceful or anything *rolls eyes*. But on the other hand I couldn't help but sympathasize for them (well more so Shade than Dan). Shade being...more

Even though I have not read the first book in this series, I found it surprisingly accessible to a first-time reader of Blue's work. This definitely fits the YA genre, but I have to disagree with the idea floating around that this bridges the YA-Adult fiction divide.
You can definitely tell what Blue reads in their spare time/their influences in terms of the YA/supernatural genres - I saw a lot of Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden in Val's character, and a lo...more

It took me a while to get into the story because I didn't read the first book. At first, I also had difficulty with the very colloquial style of writing, but after I got used to it, it was fine. It reflected the first person narrative told by a young adult, after all.
The novel was a positive surprise. I read a lot of paranormal books but I've never heard of this author so I was excited to give the novel a try (It did beg to Try Me. ;))

Try Me is the second installment in the Demon Underground series and whereas in the first one we see a young Val fighting for her place in the world, here we see a more mature, responsible Val living her new life and starting to accept her true nature as a demon.
Ok, not really. Val is always the same snarky smartass, but in this book her story takes a twist and we can learn more about Lola and the Demon Underground in general.

Try Me is the second book in The Demon Underground series. Val’s charter in Bite Me was great, but she blew me away in Try me. She’s so much stronger and her character has more depth. I just love female charters that know how to stand up for themselves. Val is definitely no Bella, you won't find her crying over a broken heart or other troubles. Now Dan is the lead guy from the first book. He had me swooning, but in this edition he's a number one jerk. I have to applaud Ms. Blue, she knows how to...more

Thank you NetGalley and Bell Bridge Books for allowing me to review this set of ebooks.
Val is a bad ass vampire slayer/succubus and you're thrown into action from the start. Val was funny and smart witted with her sarcastic behavior. I found myself laughing out loud a few times. I liked that Val was independent and didn't always depend on a guy to help rescue her in fact, she did a lot of the rescuing and protecting.

This book, like the first one, wasn't terrible or outstanding. There are some good things going on, including semi-involved parents (quite an achievement, considering YA's tendency to kill off parental figures!) and a strong female protagonist.
The main not-so-good thing for me is the writing. While it's not awful, it continues to come across as forced and stilted. When describing characters' expressions, it's simply "[Insert character here] looked sad". No elaboration, just "sad". There's also...more

Val Shapiro is 1/8th Succubus Demon, she has incredible strength, speed, as well as her other senses being enhanced. Oh...and the occasional man being uncontrollably filled with lust around her. All of these bonuses to her life make her the perfect vampire slayer / Special Crimes Unit operative / member of the Demon Underground / and Vampire Mediator.

The sequel of
Bite Me
literally takes few days after the first book ends. Val Shapiro, the eighteen years old with succubus demon inside of her (aptly named Lola) "breaks" partnership with Detective Dan from Special Crime Unit -- since Dan seems to be unable to handle the idea of building something more with Val. Luckily, there is new potential boyfriend in the horizon, shadow-demon, Shade. In addition to that Val must locate the missing demon encyclopedia before war starts between vampires and...more

Original Post: Try Me Review
Try Me is the second installement in the Demon Underground series. It picks up straight after Bite Me (Book1) and its another great novel in the series.
Try Me follows Val as she is trying to cope with Dan ignoring her. So as Dan is pushing her away. She ends up in the arms to Shade, a shadow demon who is trying to help Val control her lust demon and its pretty clear that there is a chemistry between them and an attraction that is sizzling. Sometimes sequels to books are not as good as the first installment. However, I am happy to say that "Try Me" is just as good as the first book in the Demon Underground Series.

Try Me continues the story of Valentine "Val" Shapiro, our 18 year old heroine who's 1/8th succubus demon. The story picks up right after the events in the first book, Bite Me. Val's figured out in the previous book that her attempts to keep Lola, her succubus demon, under wraps and as a separate piece of herself was failing miserably. In addition, she's becoming more attached to and interested in the Demon Underground and also drawn into the world of the vampires.

Try Me is the second book in the Demon Underground series by Parker Blue, and it is just as enthralling as the first one. Val Shapiro returns as the vampire hunter battling her inner demons, literally. With the second book picking up shortly after the first one, Val is dealing with the fallout of the incident in the first novel that resulted in Val beheading her partner and love interest’s ex-fiance.

This book was so much better than the first one, and I really enjoyed reading it. The book was well written and funny at times, and much more cohesive than the first one.
I love that Val gains more confidence in this book and is better able to control her demon, Lola. She already kicks butt, so her gaining more control just makes her all the better. We find out some things about why she is so strong, and now I'm so worried about what will happen in the next couple of books.

This book was okay. Not nearly as good as the first book in the series, but still good. I basically read them back to back, and this one just sort of pales in comparison. And oddly, the kindle version has no way of differentiating Fangs speech from regular text (unlike the first book, which had a bold font).
