Knuffle Bunny Free by Mo Willems concludes the Trixie and Knuffle Bunny trilogy. Trixie explored her local block, her city and school and now Holland. In each story she has misplaced Knuffle Bunny but this time she left it on a plane now bound for China!

Knuffle Bunny Free is about that time in a child's life when they for one reason or another are ready to part with once beloved toys. Maybe they've out grown them. Maybe they have worn them out. Or maybe they've lost them. It's a rough time; a ti...more

Loved it and I loved how much O related to the book since he has an Oma and Opa in holland too!

2.5 stars -- I was hoping I'd enjoy this installment more than the previous two. Trixie is finally old enough that she is no longer a tantrum-throwing toddler, and she can start to ponder life without the security of her toy bunny.

As with the other Knuffle Bunnies, the unique illustrations are fun to look at. This adventure has Trixie, her family, and Bunny heading to Holland to visit her grandparents. There is a twist at the end that demonstrates generosity and maturity, in which Trixie gives...more

Mo Willems is the current children's book Juggernaut. It seems all of his books are hits. His Pigeon books are hilarious. His Elephant and Piggie series: brilliant.

Of his oeuvre though, I contend that the Knuffle Bunny series is the best. Of the 3 books, 2 won the Caldecott Medal.

So, we read all three in order tonight. Here is Eleanor's review for the third one:

Me: At first you wanted to give this one 3 stars, because (view spoiler)[ she lost Knuffle Bunny... (hide spoiler)] But then I pointed o...more

PLOT SUMMARY
Mo Willems wrote a fascinating continuation in the Knuffle Bunny trilogy. In this story we grow with Trixie and deal with the joys and sadness of growing up. Willems describes one families love and devotion to a stuffed bunny. He also connects with how it feels to grow up and give up childhood pleasures.

Trixie and her family are on their way to Holland to visit Trixie's grandparents. What an exciting adventure! Trixie gets to watch as Knuffle Bunny goes through the x-ray machine and then gets to wait for the plane, then get on the plane...you get the idea. But from a kids perspective it's kinda interesting.

Finally they get off the plane and take a train to Oma and Opa's house. All of a sudden Trixie realizes...you guessed it: Knuffle Bunny was left on the plane. But the planes already in China....more

Fans of Knuffle Bunny will love this third and final book by Mo Willems. Trixie, older and more mature, travels with her parents to visit her family in Holland. Willems continues his use of black and while photographs as the background to his wonderful illustrations. And since this is a Knuffle Bunny tale, we know that Trixie's beloved stuffed animal is sure to go missing. This time, Knuffle Bunny gets left on the airplane after a long trip. Since Trixie is older and wiser, she doesn't throw a f...more

Knuffle Bunny Free: An Unexpected Diversion by Mo Willems is the end of the Knuffle Bunny saga with the story of a family trip to visit grandparents overseas. It is also an emotional journey of loss, recovery, and growing up revolving around a beloved childhood item.

In the course of an exciting plane trip to visit her grandparents in Holland (The Netherlands), Trixie loses her safety-blanket stuffed animal - Knuffle Bunny! At first very upset and sad, Trixie works gradually to adjust. Her Oma an...more

And I'm not entirely convinced this one really happened, either. The ending is a bit contrived - but who knows?

I'm putting a spoiler warning on this, and unfortunately most of the review needs it, so be aware if you read on (and care):

Trixie and her family are going to Holland (where they say the K in Knuffle!) to visit her grandparents. Naturally, Trixie loses her Knuffle Bunny on the plane. How does she keep doing this? You'd think that by now she'd know better than to leave her bunny everywhe...more

The final book in Mo Willems’ Caldecott Honor winning series is probably my favorite one of all. It is a delightful picture book that preschoolers and early elementary children will enjoy (N, P). Trixie and her Mom and Dad are off to visit relatives in Holland. Naturally, Knuffle Bunny has his own adventure along the way. Mo Willems’ unique style of colorfully drawn characters placed against black and white photographic backgrounds is interesting and full of expressive detail. One thing I partic...more

Notes: Knuffle Bunny Free: An Unexpected Diversion, by Mo Willems is a very neat book that deals with traveling and losing something valuable.

Book Review: In this book Mo Willems does a great job on explaining how things can get lost easily if one is not careful. Trixie and her family go on vacation and while on the plane, Trixie is playing with her Knuffle Bunny. They soon arive in Holland and they get off the plane and go to visit her grandparents. Trixie soon realizes that she has lost her Kn...more

1.Genre: Picture Book/Concept Book

2. Knuffle Bunny gets to experience all the fun times Trixie has each day, and Trixie is very excited when she and her family (and Knuffle Bunny!) get to visit her grandparents in Holland! However, an unexpected turn of events forces Trixie to be a big girl and learn to enjoy things without her favorite toy.

So, I'm crying in the bookstore, in the children's section... over this picture book... remembering the time when my brother nearly left his knufflebunny/lovie in the Denver airport. We were moving from Houston, TX, to Anchorage, AK. As we were gathering our stuff to board the airplane, after almost running through the airport to make our connection, my brother, who was younger than the girl in the book, set his lovie down and only because Mom looked back at the chair did we see that Lambypie wa...more

Ok, I not only liked this story, I approved of it. I really didn't approve of Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity, but this is a vast improvement, and, fortunately, it can be read as a stand-alone. I love the details in all the photographic backgrounds. I love the theme of sharing love around the world and across the generations.

I don't want to say anymore for fear of spoilery. If you aren't afraid of spoilers or have read this already, you might want to check out my review of Owen b...more

We love Mo Willems at our house--we'll check out any of his books that we find at the library, and we own a fair number of them already. This book, the conclusion (I suspect) to a triology that includes Knuffle Bunny and Knuffle Bunny, Too, did not disappoint. I love how expressive Willems' drawings are--they're deceptively simple, I think. In this story, Trixie embarks on a trans-Atlantic trip to visit her Oma and Opa, and, in true Knuffle Bunny fashion, manages to lose Knuffle Bunny along the...more

Aww, this one made me cry. Maybe it was because part of it took place in Holland, where I once lived, and I kept scrutinizing the photos to see if anything looked familiar, and there were a few words of Dutch along the way, maybe because it is a story which resonates with parents and grandparents,or maybe just because Trixie is growing up. (I belatedly notice that the child of another reviewer was likely upset by it.) Caldecott Honor award winner Mo Willems, with his pigeon books, Elephant and P...more

Ignore my rating. I haven't read it yet. But it sounds good... I mean, they're going to Holland! Yay! They're going to see all the pretty tulips and windmills! Wrong. First of all, Holland isn't the entire country's name. Holland is part of the names of two of The Netherlands' provinces, Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland. Tulips aren't from The Netherlands, they got there from Turkey. There are lots of windmills, but not everywhere. And a lot of those windmills are those modern windmill thingies.

I love all of Mo Willems' books for children. My daughters and I have enjoyed the Knuffle (K-nuffle!) Bunny series from the beginning, and I was very excited to see this one at the library one day. This book, as with the whole series, is quite entertaining for parents as well as kids. When Trixie, on holiday visiting her grandparents in Holland, loses her Knuffle Bunny yet again, every parent can relate to the stricken look of exasperation on her Dad's face. This is the same Dad we've suffered a...more

Knuffle Bunny Free by Mo Willems was such a fun read. I loved his use of real photographs underneath cartoon pictures. The story wil be a great read to teach young children unconditional love and some kids may realte to Trixie and her experience of losing her favorite stuffed animal and overcoming that obstacle. I would recommend this book for all children especially those in kindergarden and 1st grade. Mo Willems does a really good job writing books for children and makes his stories relate...more

Knuffle Bunny Free: An Unexpected Diversion carries on the adventures of Trixie and Knuffle Bunny. In this third book, Trixie and her parents are going to visit her grandparents in Holland. Of course, Knuffle Bunny has to come along. They ride on the airplane, the train, and then finally make it the Oma and Opa's house. But Trixie soon realizes that something is very wrong. She has left Knuffle Bunny on the airplane- that is now on its way to China! Will Trixie ever see Knuffle Bunny again? Knuf...more

I admit that was not eager to read this, the third Knuffle Bunny book. For some reason I had decided that there was no way that Willems could have topped or even matched the first two books and didn't even want to pick this one up from the library. However, my kids felt differently, thank goodness. Willems is a master of the picture book genre and at the risk of sounding totally cliche I must confess that I laughed, giggled, and cried while reading this book. My 11 year old did the same. My 8 ye...more

I am not ashamed to admit that by the end of this book my eye got a little wet. An excellent book about growing up for your child. Think a well told story exemplifying the Bible verse that starts "When i was a child..."

A worthy end to the Knuffle Bunny story (or what I believe is the end). Willems is a prolific modern day children's author. While I didn't care that much for the first installment in this series, the second was impeccable and this one was excellent. The mixed media art style o...more

In this final Knuffle Bunny book Trixie heads to Holland to visit her grandparents. When they finally make it there, Trixie discovers she left Knuffle Bunny behind on the plane. Everyone tries to make Trixie feel better, but she really misses her stuffed rabbit no matter what they do. A surprise discovery on the way back to the United States leads Trixie to make a very responsible and caring decision.

This book has a mix of photographs and cartoons as well as an experience many children can well...more

The first time I read this book, I cried. I love the Knuffle Bunny books and was sad that the books were coming to an end.

Trixie and her parents go on a trip to visit her grandparents in Holland. After they arrive in Holland, Trixie is enjoying her trip but something is missing. Her dad knows exactly what's missing as soon as he sees her face. Knuffle Bunny has gone on his own trip to China in the seat-back pocket of the seat on the airplane. Life isn't the same without Knuffle Bunny.

Whenever a new Mo Willems book arrives, I can't help but read it right away while I process it. Knuffle Bunny Free continues the wonderfully tradition that Willems began in the previous Knuffle Bunny installments. This time, though, we see young Trudy a little more grown up as she visits her grandparents in Europe. Her age reflects a bit more maturity, which young readers will admire. The pictures are as brilliant as ever, juxtaposing colorful, expressive characters against black and white photo...more

This book really got to me. In this one, Trixie loses Knuffle Bunny, and while she misses him she also starts to realize that she's growing up and may not need Knuffle Bunny anymore. It's something that happens in real life, but it was hard for me to watch Trixie let Knuffle Bunny go after following this story for three books. At the same time though, that's what makes it so good. If I didn't care about Trixie and Knuffle Bunny, then the books wouldn't have to effect on me that they do. This is...more
