As my friends Renee and Rel both said, Digitalis, the next book in the Discarded Heroes series cannot come soon enough and I fully and whole heartedly agree. Nightshade is intense and real. A wild ride! Even up to the very last page! I have to admit, I get bored quite easily with so many books I read these days, but that was NOT the case with Ms. Kendig's new release Nightshade! I loved this book! After reading Ronie Kendig's first book, Dead Reckoning, and hearing all the great reviews about this book, I knew it was going to be a winner. This is right up there with the great military and suspense books by Dee Henderson and Susan May Warren.

Wow, wow, wow! This is one fascinating read and I recommend it to EVERYONE!

Nightshade combines the story of David and the A Team. The Bible doesn’t talk about the scars killing in war put on David’s soul and the A Team made it look fun. Although I hate the violence that permeates too many TV shows and movies, Max’s pain drew me in. The killing he did left him a shattered man. Did David live with guilt?

Nightshade by Ronie Kendig surprised me. I am not usually a mystery or suspense person, but something pulled at me, told me to read it and I could not be more glad that I did. It was an enjoyable,emotional read from start to finish.Ms.Kendig drew characters I could relate to, people I wanted to get to know better. This is a new author that I have discovered and I have to say I really enjoyed her book. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series and hope she continues writing about these characters.
I am not a huge fan of lengthy descriptions. Ms. Kendig however, has turned descriptions into an art form. The way she describes a scene or an action is exactly how I can see myself doing the same action. For example, in Chapter 10 she writes:

Nightshade is a fast paced military thriller. I liked how the author showed that PTSD can negatively touch many areas of a soldier's life. Spiritual, emotional, mental, physical. Even relationships between friends and family. There were many complexities in this story that required solid plotting, and that was very well done. I didn't see any inconsistencies. Several friends had recommended this series to me, and book one did not disappoint. Max Jacobs is a retired Seal who can't seem to find an outlet for his anger. When his wife files for divorce, Max is devastated and accepts a position on Nightshade, a black ops team. Ronie is an amazing writer and has captured the dangerous yet heroic lives of people in the military. She has managed to put it in book form in such a way that demands you keep reading to find out more about the characters and what happens to them. You just can't help but care about them.

I must admit, I started the first chapter of this book and couldn't finish right away. Actually, I didn't finish it until after I read the 2nd book, Digitalis. This time, I started reading and couldn't stop! Ronie Kendig has beautiful character development. She truly knows how to write their thoughts, emotions, and "internal battles" in a way that completely draws you in. I literally could not put this book down (the second time around ;)). I really enjoyed the book until the end. It was fast moving, good plot and held my interest to the point of almost a page turner. I was really disappointed in the end as the author seems to have hurred the wrap up. Ex-military gets sucked back in after his wife gets a restraining order against him. He's got some serious PTSD and is unwilling to admit it. Her family's pressuring her, worried about keeping her safe. Nightshade. If you’re in search of a deadly plant, look elsewhere. But if you’re after the Discarded Heroes—a team of former military special ops men who take assignments no one can talk about, but every wants to see handled—look no further.
Maybe I’m late to the party. After all, Nightshade, the first book in Ronie Kendig’s series came out in 2010. Still, I’m glad I made it at all. And I want to make sure others don’t miss it.

I was so excited to get this book in the mail. After reading Wolfsbane (the third in the series) I knew I had to read the rest. Nightshade is the first book in the Discarded Heroes series and really sets the stage. Even though I read these books out of order, it still held many surprises and it was really neat reading about how the team formed - something only briefly mention in Wolfsbane.

NIGHTSHADE by Ronie Kendig reminds me a lot of the NCIS series from Mel Odom with just a little more emotional kick for the female reader.

Jan's Pick. Ronie Kendig has outdone her debut release, Dead Reckoning with Nightshades. This intense story full of action, is also full of emotion and life. Men dealing with issues they hadn’t planned on. Surprise after surprise and bomb after bomb set this adventurous trail with the reader racing to the end. I found myself crying and smiling and hated it when it ended.
