I really loved this story. The description as found on Good Reads really does justice to the story. I did read the story really quickly and it took me a while to figure out what was going to happen at the ending. I loved how he tied all the ends up in a great bow that I would truly love to believe. I would love to believe this is what happens to our people when they pass on and would love to know they would perhaps go on a journey such as this. Anyone with a parent who has dementia or Alzheimers...more

"Crossing the Bridge" by Michael Baron was one of the first books that I read in 2010, and it wasn't one of my favourites because I had some issues with some of the characters. However, I did enjoy Baron's writing style, so I thought that I would give his latest, "The Journey Home" a try. I'm glad that I was willing to give Baron a chance to wow me, because this one was very different (in a good way!) from his last one.

The story begins as Joseph, a man in his late 30's, wakes up in a strange hou...more

A poignant love story tying three separate characters together in an unimaginable way, The Journey Home will pull readers in from the beginning and captivate them throughout. With endearing and sensitive writing, beautifully crafted characters and stunning plot lines, Baron has created another romantic masterpiece. This book focuses on three characters, two of whom are related and one who is completely separate, and forms a connection with each of them to the reader.

The Journey Home is a predictable, feel good story about growing old and what happens next. It was a somewhat interesting contrast between Joseph, a young man in his 30’s trying to remember, and Antoinette, an elderly woman who spends the majority of her time reliving memories from earlier in her life. Warren is Antoinette’s son, and he is on a journey of his own to piece his life back together after a divorce, losing his job, and supporting a mother that is rapidly declining.

He started well but he tripped and fell. I like that little rhyme and it applied perfectly to this book for me.

The story started with a nice little mystery and went right downhill for me from there. In the end the mystery really didn’t amount to anything more than a plot device and in between the beginning and the end I went back and forth between feeling like I was reading a cookbook and watching a Lifetime Movie Network movie. The writing felt stunted to me and the dialogue was sometimes a lit...more

Razões da escolha do livro: Oferta da Editora “Quinta Essência”.
Proveniência: A minha biblioteca.
A minha Opinião:
Antoinette vive fechada no seu próprio mundo, alternando períodos...more

Good read for a short story. I'm not a huge fan of short stories because I like lots of character development. This story about Joseph and Anotoniette could have been developed even further, but because this is a fairly new author it is just right. Though a bit predictable it held my attention and the main characters were very believeable. Throughly enjoyed it on my Nook and it was freebie I'm glad I down loaded. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.

The Joruney Home holds a special place in my heart now...it's a beautifully told story about a family...and though I am not sure this rating is 100% about the book as it is about me...

This story hit close to home for me, for a few reason's the most important though is that of the relationship between my grandfather and grandmother - I almost relived there love though Michael Baron's telling of The Journey Home. A love story about finding home - even if you feel like your lost in a world and have...more

This story goes full circle. I signed up to win it, but realized I already had it in my library as a Barnes and Noble free book.

It starts in a house with people sharing a delicious meal. One of the people does not know who he is, nor what he is doing there. He spends the night and then sets out the next day to try to find out about who he. He meets a young boy, age 17, on the street and there starts what turns out to be the journey they were both meant to take.

As stated about this writer, he i...more

I actually really enjoyed this story. It's a short story and an easy read, it's also very predictable, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It's tough to go on without spoiling the story, but the story is so predictable that maybe it doesn't matter. This story is an interesting take on the "afterlife". The love story is endearing and fills you with hope. I think it probably could have been fleshed out into a full novel if some of the predictability was taken from the story and it's too bad that isn't w...more

At the request of The Story Plant, a PB copy was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest opinion.

Although this book was written well I found it depressing. The story revolves around an elderly women who is suffering from Alzheimers. She is near the end of her life and is searching for the memory and spirit of her husband who died a few years earlier. In turn he is searching for his wife who will join him in heaven if he can find her. In addition their son is trying to deal with his mothers ailing memory. It hit too close to home with Oma who suffered from Alzheimers passing away this year.

This book turned out to be a lot better than I expected. It was quite boring in the beginning. There wasn't really a story at that part. It seemed like just random stuff was put together, but at the end everything came together. You really have to read this until the end because nothing would make sense if you don't. Also if you don't read the end the book would be horrible, just like what I thought it was. This book was one of those books that you have to finish even though it doesn't seem very...more

Although it's a novel, The Journey Home is truly an interesting point of view on Alzheimers and how it affects its victims and the family of its victims. Well written, tugs at the heart and I really like how cooking and food tie it all in. I only gave it 3 stars, because I really felt the story never trul reached its arch. It was a bit anti-climatic, but still, a story from the heart AND full of heart that, like I said before, was well written...so that's always nice.

I started this book last eve and found the writing disjointed. When I reached the 40% point, I read other reviews, then skipped to the end. For me the strength of the book was the way the auther was able to describe the perceptions of the elderly mom with Alzheimer's vs. her sons perspectives. I did skip to the end to read the final chapter. It was an interesting conclusion, but overall, I was ready to move on rather than return to the chapters I missed.

Got it on a "free Friday" for my Nook quite some time ago and kept putting off reading it because I had "better" books to read. It was a fairly quick read at only 133 pages and it drew me in pretty quickly. It was suggested as "if you like Nicholas Sparks..." and I can see why they would relate the two, although it had none of the classic Sparks elements!! Overall, I would recommend it to others. Especially if the price was good! A good book!

I liked the premise of the book and the structure of every chapter being told from the viewpoint of one of the three main characters. It kept me intrigued until the end. But I didn't like the end of the book; I thought it was convuluted and didn't really tie the strings together in a believable fashion - like it was too forced. I did appreciate the relationship between Warren and Antoinette and really felt the emotional pull between them.

Michael Baron’s The Journey Home is a very personal work of fiction based upon the author’s parents’ marriage and love for one another.

Joseph awakens with no memory of who he is and embarks on a road trip to jog his memory with the help of a young teen, Will. Meanwhile, Antoinette is an elderly woman living in an assisted living facility who is slowly losing her grip on reality and living in her past.

I got this from B&N for Free Fridays - said if you like Nicholas Sparks you would also like this author. Since I am rereading all of Nichalas Sparks I thought this would be a good new author to try. Loved the story of Joseph, Warren and Anntoinette all trying to find their way HOME. I could not put it down and was surprized by the ending........ I will certainly read other books by Michael Baron.
