I try to avoid sports manga. The idea that I'm suppose to find the fate of a sports team interesting is just so beyond my grasp that I know better then to even bother. However, I grabbed Crimson Hero. My expectations were so low that you wouldn't be able to limbo under them if you tried. So colour me surprised when this was totally tolerable.

What I found appealing about Crimson Hero has less to do with the manga itself and more to do with the author. In almost all shojo manga there are those li...more

I loved this book and i somewhat think that this book was made for me. Nobara never gives up on having hope to play volleyball again; she's even willing to take care of a whole dorm. Since her mother doesn't approve of her playing volleyball, Nobara ran away from home; the only way that she could have hope of playing volleyball again was to be a dorm mother. I could definitely connect this story line to myself because since my mother doesn't support me in playing volleyball, i know how Nobara fe...more

Nobara isn’t considered pretty and graceful like her younger sister, Souka, but is expected to be the young mistress, a host that serves the rich people at her family’s Japanese restaurant. All Nobara wants to do is play volleyball, so she transfers to a new school to be on their school volleyball team. Her first day doesn’t go well. She finds out there is no longer a girl’s volleyball team AND she gets mistaken for a boy.

However, Nobara finds out that her mother paid the school a hefty amount o...more

All Nobara wants to do is to play volleyball when she transferred to Crimson Field High School. But there were so many obstacles she had to overcome. She found out that the girls volleyball team was disbanded due to lack of players. Her family was against her playing volleyball because they wanted her to inherit their traditional Japanese restaurant. She got into an argument with her mother and ran away from home. Luckily, her aunt Momoko found her a job as a dorm mother (basically working like...more

Some of the language is a bit coarse and Nobara does get shoved around, but overall this is just a classic sports story with a bit of romance. It's actually pretty good although I can't really understand the drive behind Nobara's desire to play volleyball. I never had anyone tell me I couldn't play soccer. I might pick up the next one someday and this would probably appeal to a teen wanting something that their parents don't approve of. That or someone wanting to read about a teen doing everythi...more

[Series Length: 12 volumes / Read: volumes 1-8]

(Below is my original review. However, I improved the rating since then by one star, because the author finally decided to do some actual research and insert some real volleyball after volume 5 or so. And I could finally tell--for the most part, anyway--which character was who. So if you're patient enough to suffer through a slow start, it's actually not a bad series to pick up.)

The first volume of this series was particularly attractive, with the m...more

Yeah mangas about sports aren't really my thing and I remember reading this in Shoujo Beat and I didn't like it then and I don't now. I don't see how mangas about sports can be entertaning, becasue they seem like they should be WATCHED rather than read about. That being said maybe because it's a western sport, because I've seen Bamboo Blade and that looks interesting because it isn't a sport I had crammed down my throat to play in gym.

Very cute shoujo sports manga, with somewhat less angst than Akuma de Sourou (if I recall correctly). Read through vol. 14, but am too lazy to actually add all of those volumes and they've all blended together in my mind anyways.

Uhhh... yeah, she loves volleyball, volleyball and volleyball and nothing else and she screams it on every second page, to the point it becomes annoying. The story is slow and not that bad but I can't see myself to continue with this series.

Good set up to a fun series. Who knew you care so much about volleyball players? The crimson hero (heroine if you must be technical) will steal your heart. Read this, so you can read the next book.

One of my favorite Manga's. Chihiro pursues her love of volleyball, if that means she must work for the boys volleyball team until she can join one herself. LOVE

I read up to volume 7. It's about a girl who transfered into a high school to play volleyball, however her mother doesn't allow it. Later on Nobara promised her mother that if she lets her play volleyball in high school she would do whatever her mother says after high school. Her adventure then begins as she becomes the homekeeper for the male volleyball team and start getting female members for the female team. Her journey is long and hard, plus she's a great player, is her team dragging her do...more

Başlayıp yarım bıraktıklarımdan, aslında çok hoş bir konusu ve süper çizimleri vardı; bitti de, en kısa sürede yeniden okumam lazım.

There is no swearing in this series, and it is insanely funny and witty. Loved it, and can't wait to read the last 7 books.

this IS my favorite manga of all time! It has an awesome packed story that makes you want to become Nobara's nerdy fan.

I've heard good things about this series, but I need the drama to increase! I'm sure it will once I read more.

This was one of the first sport comics I've read. I'm not THAT into sports, but at least I tried. Sure I get she's a tomboy, but I would have liked a little more romance.
