A few weeks back I was about to check out all the books I was carrying and 'The Life of Akmal' caught my eye. Mainly because I had seen Akmal Saleh on a few shows and comedy festivals and figured it would be a fun ride of a book. I was actually very surprised though! In a good way. Yes, it was funny, he has a great voice in telling stories from his life but it was also finding out about his upbringing that I ended up finding the most interesting.

I actually quite liked this book. I can't say that I have been a huge fan of Akmal's comedy in the past as I found his humour almost annoying but his book is far from this. I loved how he spoke about his early life in Egypt and his crazy family, his immigration to Australia and trying to find his way in life. The surprise road of comedy and how he became a success. I loved that at times it was very funny and at times very heartbreaking to heartwarming. Not what I expected but definitely a pleasa...more
