Danielle is convinced that her dog, Chuck, will one day save the universe and when this happens, her mother will buy her a Big Mac from McDonald’s since they never eat there. However, Danielle’s well-bred whippet is afraid of everything and is paranoid that everything is coming to get her. Throughout all of the stories, Chuck continues to surprise everyone, except Danielle, who knows Chuck is an extraordinary dog. Not only does Chuck accidentally stop a mugging and makes sure that the neighbo More...

I thought this book was a decent transitional book when introducing children to chapter books, however, I didn't find it very engaging. I did like the personality traits of Chuck, the dog, but I would have liked to read the book from Chuck's point of view rather than Danielle's. I feel that hearing from the dog would have been more fun and more engaging for children.

Cute story about a whippet dog named Chuck. Chuck is too scared for her own good, but her owner Danielle loves him to pieces. They live in England with just Damielle's mom, and find themselves in many situations that allows Chuck to showcase his fears of everything, but come out a hero anyway!

One of my favorite children's books. I read it a lot as a child. (:

Hilarious & charming, even if you don't particularly like dogs. Especially for ages 7-9, but would be a fun read-aloud for the whole family, too.

Chuck is an exasperating but adorable whippet. Danielle is her patient and loyal owner. Children will laugh out loud at the hilarious adventures these two face in the charming stories Mr. Dickinson presents. Readers will also experience the great faith and love pets place in their owners. Good gift idea for reluctant readers who like dogs and have a sense of humour.

Charming series of stories about a shy whippet and the girl who loves her. Not profound, but very sweet.

Cute. Nothing earth-shattering, but a fun, quick read.
