Midnight Dalliance is a sweet and enjoyable short story. Dalton has always dreamed of being a high level rider and has a hero worship crush on one of the greatest riding teams, Kelvin and his horse Revie. When Dalton finally meets Kelvin, sparks fly between the two men at a competition. Some gentle banter and steamy sex are thrown in to round out this quick story.

Dalton sank everything he had into his Grand Prix dreams and a stallion named Midnight Dalliance. He may be in over his head, though--until his hero in a beige cowboy hat arrives on the scene.
Given that this was a short story, it's perhaps not terribly surprising that character development was thin on the ground. Midnight Dalliance provides a little glimpse into the world of competitive show horses and their riders wrapped around a cute m/m romance story. Even with limited character development and cliched plot points, this story delivers some of the endearing chemistry and character personality quirks (Kelvin) that I have come to love in SJ's longer work. Maybe SJ will choose to write more about this world in the future, because she clearly has a knack for it.

Okay, this is an English riding cowboy story. :-) Dalton is a young British man new to the show jumping circuit in America. He's breaking up with his boyfriend who had abused the horse Dalton bought from him when Kelvin, the star of the tour steps in. He has just retired his horse and offers to ride Dalton's the next day. Dalton has been crushing on Kelvin since he was a teen and takes him up on the offer with a suitable "reward" if Kelvin can win the competition. Dalton doesn't have much money...more
