This one is actually my least favorite in the series. It isn't written poorly, but as I started to read it, I began to get angry with most of the characters in the book. I hated Erin for acting like a know it all, Sky for leaving, Morgan's parents for being unable to understand their daughter's faith, Mary K for being annoying, Alisa for being paranoid, and even Hunter for allowing her to be stripped of her magick. I especially wasn't fond of Morgan since she seemed ignorant and selfish througho...more

I'll warn people straight off the bat. This is the book where the series is supposed to start shifting the focus from Morgan to Alisa. The next book will focus on Hunter, but from there out the books supposedly focus on Alisa more.

In this book Morgan finds that strange things are beginning to happen around her- even more so than usual. Her father still roams free, despite the attempts of the good witches who are trying to track him down. Morgan can't help but wonder if these events- strange tele...more

The first 2-3 books in this series are addictive, a fresh "modern-teen" POV in the tired genre of witches/kids with supernatural powers finding themselves (and the wonder of Wicca) among families/communities who "don't get it".

After #3, it goes downhill. There is no psychological development of the main characters (and the secondary characters are quite shallowly described and hard to distinguish throughout the series; even the more promising and believable ones, BFFs Bree & Robbie are essen...more

Today's review is on Strife by Cate Tiernan

Strife is the 9th book in the Sweep series by Tiernan, and is a step downward from her previous volumes.

As in the previous book, Morgan's life is still out of control. Her father is on the loose, and even though she knows his true name she is reluctant to tell Hunter. Her grades are still falling and her parents feel that their only option is to send her to a Catholic school.

If that's not enough, things have been happening wherever Morgan goes. Books fl...more

I think you can call Strife the book that is like a rest point. It builds up the next few stories for what is about to happen though nothing much really happens.
It's to get to know the characters better. Morgan with her parents and her sister and all that. The meeting parents thing with Hunter and of course to get to know Alisa a lot better.

In this part I really disliked Mary K. I think that's she is of course a loving friend towards Alisa but I think she is to selfish to Morgan. With all that W...more

It was definitely a great book, but not the best in the series. It wasn't as suspenseful as some of the others were. But I can't wait for the next one because of how it ended. Morgan gives off the feeling of being very lonely in this book. Mary K is drifting farther away by the day. She's more concerned with Alise then Morgan. And Alise is coming across as the poor me character. The one thing that does frustrate me about this series… Morgan, how she never speaks up when she should. It's f...more

SO this one took me a while to read and get through. Maybe it was because it wasn't as dramatic and suspenseful as the other books were. I found myself at times, a bit bored with this book. The council is on the hunt for Ciaran still. Hunter is still on the hunt for his parents, believing that he's receiving signs from them. Sky is unhappy where she is and longs to go back home to England. All of Morgan's friends are having issues of their own and her family life is falling part, along with her...more

As I've said in past reviews, I really enjoy this series. However, I think the books are a little too short to really qualify as an actual book in my mind. There are fifteen books in this series, and I feel like it could have been condensed into longer books, considering they really pick up right where the last book left off.

That being said, I think Strife was one of my favorites out of the series. I am, however, getting really tired of Morgan's power. Being more than halfway into the series, I...more

Morgan has experienced both the beauty and the terror that magick can bring yet she has managed to find a place of peace within herself. With her boyfriend Hunter by her side she is looking forward to learning as much as she can about the craft. But when strange telekinetic events start to occur around Morgan, a dangerous question arises. Is someone deliberately targeting her, or are the events somehow being caused by Morgan herself?

This is the ninth book in the Wicca series (after Book of Shado...more

Weird things are happening and no one can really figure out why. Cal and Selene are dead. Ciaran is on the run and he couldn't possibly be making them happen from how far away he is... so naturally, everyone starts blaming Morgan. She's powerful, she uninitiated... maybe she's causing these things to happen without knowing it.

Hunter brings someone to help Morgan learn more about her powers and how to control them. She starts tutoring Morgan as soon as she gets there.

The story shifts, suddenly we...more

Strange things are happening around Morgan. Is she being attacked or is she somehow causing the events herself? All the stress is starting to show in her grades and her teachers and family are concerned. As always, Hunter is at her side, but she is also afraid that he will leave her to search for his mother and father.

Well, these books just keep sucking me in. I love them even though I still get so annoyed at Morgan. She is such a ... well, teenage girl. Can't wait to see what is going on with t...more

I really liked this book, but I was disappointed in it's ending. I won't say too much and spoil it for you, but Cate Tiernan has a way of leaving things hanging so you never really know for sure who is doing what. Also I can't believe Hunter's choice at the end of the book, SHOCKING! Poor Morgan is all I have to say.
I did get really annoyed with Morgan in this book as well because she never seems to know when to say when. Her grades are slipping, her parents are pissed, her friendships are fail...more

********SPOILERS********

My least favourite book in the series...i dislike the character alisa and the way she acts...if she was that scared of wicca she would of quit quite early on...also the way they blame morgan for whats going on irritates me too....if erin, hunter and sky are good at 'sensing' blood witches surely they would 'sense' alisa is one too. That is why i have giving it a lower rating than the rest..

I really liked this book...i can't believe that Hunter is going to Canada(GO CANADA! Haha I live in Canada!) to find his parents. AHHH!!!!!!ANOTHER FREAK MOMENT! It took my forever to read this one...I was really busy tho...and I just finished it today but last night I was too lazy to actually finish that last 10 pages...
***Reading #10 right now! Ahhh!!!****

Great book but I don't think that people that havent read the previous books from this series would have a hard time understanding. The emotion of the characters are so well written and explain that I could almost feel it myself. The idea of magic in this book is about spells and rituals with seems more likely than normal witch books.

I guess I'll get back to this sometime... stopped reading at the start of book ten because it's not from Morgan's point of view. Book ten didn't look awful or anything, but it was just enough of a break in the story to make me feel like reading something else instead.

I couldn't do this anymore I became turned off by the constant replication of facts in each book, its not often I don't finish what I start out reading but when I don't touch my kindle for almost 2 days just to avoid re-reading the background of every character in each book, something is wrong. I liked them but lost my tolerance for it.

I can see where the story is about to go, and I love it! Nine volumes in, and I'm still intrigued by Morgan and Hunter. Great series - not too intense, but Cate certainly takes you where you want to go. Time for me to go buy volume 4...!
Cheryl
The council is looking for Ciaran. Meanwhile, strange things are happening around Morgan. Hunter and Morgan saw a strange figure in the road. Also, other mysterious things happen. Hunter thinks that his parents are sending messages, but Morgan thinks that Ciaran is the cause of all these strange happenings. Since Morgan is an untrained witch, a new character is brought in to try to help her. Everyone seems to think that Morgan is the cause of all of the strange things that are happening. Morgan'...more

This wasn't the best book in the series and hopefully the rest of the series won't be like this book. I don't know what was so different about it...the writing style was the same but something was just off.

Strange things are happening around Morgan – is she causing them or someone else? Not the best book in the series – too mixed up.

I really got annoyed throughout this book. Alisa really was hard on Morgan. I also thought the whole problem with Alisa was dropped towards the end of the story. I am hoping some light is shed in the next book. I was really waiting for it to come out that Alisa had powers or something. It just didn't make sense at the end about Morgan and Alisa.
Magdalena
im pretty sure that Alisa was the one that was moving thing with her mind!!! What Sarah was writting ion her journal made me think of Alisa a lot
Liberty
what can I say? I am addicted to this series! Its getting closer to ending and I will surely be disappointed when it does.

"was born in New Orleans, LA, in 1961. New Orleans is one of the most interesting American cities, and it has an incredibly rich and exotic culture that had a profound influence on me. Kids in other cities have lemonade stands; we sold voodoo gris-gris and made wax dolls in the likenesses of our enemies. It's a very beautiful city, and the constant heat and humidity make gardens grow out of contro...more
