Cal, how could you? How could you! *spoilers*
I don't think Morgan was wrong about not forgiving Cal for his betrayals. I would have forgiven him though, were it me.
Okay, i'm a guy so i'm biased but to Cal's credit:
He really loved her, he was willing to do anything to protect Morgan from his mother; kill her (a litttle extreme), sacrifice himself (which does happen) etc.
We were completely on Cal's side, the reader feels safe when they're around Cal. Thing More...

So we learn in this one that Hunter is the good guy and Cal is the bad guy, but at the same time I still hold my doubts about Cal being completely and utterly dark. I loved the power and the drama that went on in this one. It was different to the others, and yet at the same time it seemed to express just as much danger, depth and darkness. It was effective and emotional in all the right places and I really felt all of Morgans feelings as I was reading through it. The relationship that she has wi

The first 2-3 books in this series are addictive, a fresh "modern-teen" POV in the tired genre of witches/kids with supernatural powers finding themselves (and the wonder of Wicca) among families/communities who "don't get it".
Here, by #4, it goes downhill. There is no psychological development of the main characters (and the secondary characters are quite shallowly described and hard to distinguish throughout the series; even the more promising and believable ones More...

Today’s review is on Dark Magick by Cate Tiernan
Dark Magick is the 4th book in Tiernan’s Sweep series and I have to say that with each book I read in the series the more I enjoy them.
In Dark Magick Morgan finds out that Cal and his mother are also Woodbane witches and that they practice “traditional” magick. Traditional meaning that they practice dark magick. She also learns that Cal has been helping his mother find other Woodbane witches to join her coven. His job was More...

I do have to give the reader a potential warning: if you thought that you were addicted to the series before, you most certainly will be after reading this book!!
The story once again picks up on the very tail end of the previous book. In order to save her boyfriend, Morgan had to attack someone. Understandably traumatized, Morgan starts to distance herself from her boyfriend Cal after the event. When she begins to grow suspect of Selene & Cal's intentions, Morgan finds that almost e More...

HA! <spoiler>. Knew I didn't like Cal! Grrrrr can't wait to read more about this fascinating world. </spoiler> This series only gets better and better.
The characters are really developing, especially Morgan. She needs to learn more, and I hope she gets some better teachers (David and Alyce for example)
Here we have twists and turns and a great deal of mystery. We have history too, and a deeper knowledge of what's going on.
It's still not enough thoug More...

I give this book 4 stars merely for its entertainment value.
It's definitely not an example of literary genius, but the storyline is interesting and compelling. The book is based on the idea of witchcraft and being really fascinated with the paranormal genre at the moment, I thought it would be a refreshing break from reading about vampires and werewolves.
In addition to being about 'witchcraft', Tiernan's Wicca books also incorporate a bit of mystery and romance which ma More...

This book is amazing just like the others in the series. You can really feel the emotions that Morgan goes through.
Love, Devotion, Anger, Confusion, Sadness.
She finds it's so hard to know who to believe. Who is out to harm you and you harm? Who is truthful and only has love and devotion to you? Who is really a friend? Who is lying to you?
So many different emotions. So much conflict.
In such a short time she has grown up so much.

Morgan is totally in love with Cal. But is Cal in love with Morgan, or her magic. And why are people gathering at Cal's house anyway. And why do they all want to meet Morgan? The plot thickens as Morgan tries to understand her conflicting feelings and the way people are treating her. Is she really one of the most powerful witches alive? Like I said, the plot thickens.
This series just rocks. The characters are so real to me. Morgan has all the normal teen and family concerns, plus, yo More...

Video of me ranting about this book? It can be found HERE. Full, written review is further down below...
In a nutshell: Cal's weird behaviour is coming more to the forefront, and Morgan is starting to doubt whether or not he's being as genuinely truthful as he claims to be. But the threat of powerful 'evil forces' are coming upon Morgan, and she has to choose which boy should she trust at this time, Hunter or Cal?

I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!! Ohhhh, Cal, you're an evil evil little witch! I knew he was bad news from the beginning, and this story just nailed it for all of us. I have to say, as much as I had a bad feeling about him, I was still hoping & secretly rooting for him, that he was not a bad guy. But, with a mother like Selene, who could blame him?
Book #4 and I'm so engrossed with this series, that I've read three books just today alone. I didn't think I'd enjoy them, as much am I am. More...

It's well written, suspenseful, and part of a great series, the best in the series thus far. The story once again picks up on the very tail end of the previous book. In order to save her boyfriend, Morgan had to attack someone. Understandably traumatized, Morgan starts to distance herself from her boyfriend Cal after the event. When she begins to grow suspect of Selene & Cal's intentions, Morgan finds that almost everything she thought she knew is far from he truth. I was shocked by the many une

Oh Cal... how could you???
:`-(
It was gripping and thrilling. Very entertaining and interesting. The whole situation has changed now. And in the end, Bree came to save Morgan. At least something good!
I am still not sure what to think about Hunter, I know everyone who read the whole series loves Hunter, so I am VERY curious how it goes on now...
But now I gotta go, I have to read Book #5!
Bye!

Praise for Book of Shadows: "Delectably dark...While Tiernan's ingredients are familiar, she stirs the cauldron with engaging, even cinematic, prose and sharply individuates her characters." - Publishers Weekly

A female heroine in a realistic teenage life discovering she has fantastic witch like powers but is not alone. Good emotional angst thrown in amongst the suspense of who to trust, where to run and how to fight.
I started the series at this one for some reason but got into it... need to read the others.

Wow, I must say this was unexpected. I don't know how to feel, I almost feel betrayed myself! I am not sure what's ahead, but I really hope Morgan can catch a break! This author is great at delivering a plot that just continues to get better, while indirectly reminding readers an important lesson on friendship.

OMFG AWESOME!!!! I read this in like a day, I was so completely enthralled in the story, it completely took me in it's grasp and drained me of everything except witchiness, and the seconds that I had to eat and sleep and stuff, I was basically screaming Morgan's name, cheering for her.

I liked this whole series. This point of view of Wicca fascinated me. I absolutely love Hunter! This is a good series if you want a long series of suspense, exploration of Wicca, and some fluff-y type romance.

Spannend verhaal, maar het boek staat vol taalfouten en het is ergerlijk hoe de auteur altijd maar de feiten herhaalt uit de vorige boeken. Net alsof we dom zijn en we zoiets niet kunnen onthouden....

I really wanted Cal to come around he seemed like a great guy. Eventually he did come through, but it cost him. Poor sap. I really enjoyed this book. All of the Hunter vs Cal drama is great, but I wonder are they ever gonna hook up? Come on kids you know what's goin' on, wake up!

Okay, the big picture plot is getting more interesting. But I'm still surprised that in a book that is only 108 pages (at least in the version I read) can still drag a bit.

Morgan s relationship with Cal comes to a head in the fourth book in the series. I am enjoying the series, although I still don t like how the books just stop.

WOW as the title suggests, this ones dark. I was surprised but not shocked at Cal's behavior towards Morgan. I've thought from the beginning that something wasn't right with him and his super quick "love" for Morgan. This book finally tells the true story of Cal and his mother. Surprise after surprise after surprise. Good stuff. I can't wait to read book 6 - Awakening.

Like the best Lifetime movie, we know that Morgan is blinded by (young) love and can't see the truth. The danger, the suspense, the agony is delicious!
