Happy Birthday Bad Kitty!

It's time to break out the balloons....

that Bad Kitty popped

Get out the decorations...

that Bad Kitty destroyed

Invite all the kitty guests...

that brought her lame gifts

And let's eat some cake....

that can't be chocolate because chocolate is bad for kitties.

This book was too cute!

I love the artwork and I just love Bad Kitty.

This is a strange book to have ended up in the graphic novels category for the Cybils nominations as I wouldn't really, at first, have considered it a graphic novel. There are no frames or bubbles and the whole story is told by a narrator. However, the book is heavily graphically dependant and without the graphics there are many parts of the story that wouldn't make sense. Hence, I realistically (though grudgingly) can see its place as a graphic novel. I didn't like this book. It's Bad Kitty's b More...

Happiness is finding a book you know your child will love. And there is nothing like the perverse joy of having your child sneak off to read instead of doing what you ‘want’ them to do. Thankfully, many of the great books my kids have relished such as The Lightening Thief, The Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The Sisters Grimm come with sequels that satisfy as much as the first one does. This was never truer than with Nick Bruel’s latest Bad Kitty book, Happy Birthday Bad Kitty.

Oooh, it More...

I'm kind of amused by the picture book Bad Kitty, so I thought I'd give this chapter book featuring this same kitty a try, curious about how well it would translate from one format to another. This chapter book is very dependant on its illustrations so in a lot of ways it reads like a black-and-white picture book. Unfortunately, the story just doesn't work for me. The facts about cats interspersed throughout the book are interesting and Bad Kitty's breakdown at the end and eventual reuniting More...

This cute graphic novel for kids is both informative and silly. It's Bad Kitty's birthday and isn't happy about her presents, her guests or her cake. Being a bad kitty, she pretty much destroys everything. The best characters is Strange Kitty, a comic book loving cat who makes friends with a mouse at the party and they are engrossed in comic books while the party comes down around them. There are cat facts between each of the simple chapters including a page on why you should never, ever, feed c More...

The cover drew me to this book sitting on the shelf at the library. I finished it in about a half an hour. It is Kitty's Birthday and she doesn't want to get up until she is told there will be cake and presents. This chapter book is filled with illustrations and nice facts about cats. A fast read and certainly would interest a middle reader who likes graphic novels. School Library Journal describes this cat best as "the cantankerous cat..." and that is just what she is grumpy wit More...

3 1/2 stars. Some funny parts, for sure...and as a kid, I would've loved it even though I'd hardly call it great literature today. Kids just love this stuff even though there's better literature out there at this reading level. But it is appropriate for intermediate readers...and it's written as a graphic novel. It's funny...not too terribly clever, although a few details--Stinky Kitty, for instance--are great. I read this one aloud to my second graders who LOVED it. Sigh...they love funny

A fun and informative story about a kitty and the life it leads one which includes two main activities, sleeping and being a loner. Interspersed into the main story are neat factoids which address a few cat behaviors and
explains the reasons for those behaviors. This story highlights a time when kitty is forced to celebrate her
birthday with neighbor cats. All kitty wants for her special day is a $600.00 scratching post/tower which he
ultimately receives from her dog family member

This was a cute little illustrated novel that brings the picture book character of Bad Kitty into chapter books. There are many many illustrations and the story alternates with fun facts about cats.

I didn't particularly enjoy the book, but I can see children picking it up and loving everything about it. It's a great early chapter book, a good book for reluctant readers, it's funny, and it has illustrations (which really is all the rage in chapter books at the moment).

I read this aloud to my 5 year old. Can't say it's my favorite, but he seemed to really enjoy it. It's a "chapter" book but has lots of pictures on every page, so it was perfect for him. The chapters are short too, so if we only had time for one, it didn't take long to read. I think we have a couple more of these "Bad Kitty" books purchased from the book fair, so I'm sure we will "purr"fectly enjoy them together. :)

A funny, random chapter book about (surprise, surprise) Bad Kitty's birthday. Other kitties come for a party. I gotta say, Weird Kitty is my favourite. And there is a character called Mama Kitty, which makes me a little teary because of my good Mama Kitty, who I still miss sometimes. Anyway...funny book. Takes a half-hour to read. And Uncle Murray's comments are funny.

Okay, this is a kid's book, but it is so hilarious. I love the Bad Kitty books. It is Bad Kitty's birthday, and she is having a birthday party with all of the neighborhood kitties invited. In this book we also find out some background information about Bad Kitty's kittenhood. And, as usual, Uncle Murray has some helpful cat facts and tips.

We love the Bad Kitty books. My 6 year old reads above his grade level but it's hard to find books that interest him. The Bad Kitty books are wonderful! He reads them over and over. He even sleeps with them. The best part is that when he insists we read them together, they don't annoy me. I find them as funny as he does.

Happy Birthday to a very bad kitty! Bad kitty is having a birthday party, meet all of his friends. The first book in the series, Bad Kitty, was a funny story using the alphabet. This book and the others in the series are now chapter books. I would like to see more like the first book for the younger kids who love Bad Kitty.

I discovered Bad Kitty when my coworker found a picture book about him. Today a student brought us this book to read and it is HILARIOUS. My favorite part was Chatty Kitty who never stops "talking" and the writer provides a translation for all of her MEOWS! Wonderful for kids and cat lovers of all ages!

Kitty is having a Birthday Party and all his friends are invited. Strange kitty, Stinky Kitty, Pretty Kitty, and Twin Kitties all show up among other guests. When Kitty's presents disappear he has to find out which guest is the culprit. Very popular for boys and girls 1st grade to 4th grade.

This book was another book that I didn't completely enjoy but I could see where my students really enjoy reading it. It's humor is targeted for 3rd graders. I did appreciate how Nick Bruel incorporated pieces of nonfiction into the story by giving facts about cats and the things they do.

We just love the books in the Bad Kitty series by Nick Bruel. They are so funny, with sarcastic and tongue in cheek humor that has our girls begging for more. With its graphic novel format, this book is a very fast read, even at 160 pages, and our girls asked me to read "just one more chapter" over and over until we finished it. There are interesting and informative facts about cats sprinkled throughout the story, which are good for children who may have a cat as pet. It is silly a More...

Funny story mixed with facts about cats. This is a book that I am book talking to lower elementary aged kids and I am looking forward to hearing their reaction to the book! A great choice for cat lovers and those who like to read about cats behaving badly.

This one was another funny Bad Kitty story. I thought I knew what was going to happen at the end, but I wasn't able to guess all of it. Chatty Kitty is really funny in here, too. I like the facial expressions that Bad Kitty makes. Another laugh out loud good read.

Ha, ha, ha. Bad Kitty is well suited to his name. He staunchly opposes his own birthday party until he realizes he might get his dream present. I hope the author keeps writing Bad Kitty books. This is a great beginning chapter book.

Even if you are not a cat fan, this books appeal is in the kid friendly fact-toids (and an appendix on cat breeds) The graphics are expressive, and the font sizes, and playful text, as silly as the story is, it all works for me!

Cute book. The first one of the Bad Kitty books that I have read. I plan on reading the others now. Those of you that like to pick the cartoonish books in the library, will appreciate these books. They are sort of like a comic book - funny stuff.

My favorite part was when kitty got the cake. It wasn't the cake she wanted because it wasn't chocolate, so she pulled it onto the floor and it splated all over the place and kitty went crazy. It was so funny!

I didn't really care for this book too much but I'm sure a cat person would definitely love the humor and quick facts about cats the author explains. This is definitely a fun book students will enjoy.

It's Bad Kitty's birthday but he wants nothing to do with the preparations. Until cake and gifts are mentioned. Friends come for the party, bringing gifts and trouble.
