I'd read a number of glowing reviews for this book, most by some book bloggers whose opinions I really value, so I was really surprised to find that I was wholeheartedly disappointed. I mean, where was the story? Probably 90% of the book was dialogue exchanges between characters as way of explanation but it didn't provide much else. Lacking was character development, world building, and, most importantly, the opportunity for readers to connect with the character's emotions.

Run, don't walk, to Tyger Tyger. Yes it is THAT good! It has mythology, folklore, an ancient curse, attraction, and a fairytalesque quest. I could not put it down. It swiftly captured me and held me hostage. My only regret was that it had to end. I can not wait for the next book. If you enjoyed The Puzzle Ring, you must try the edgier Tyger Tyger.

I wanted to love Tyger Tyger. I’ve got a soft spot for teenagers-in-faeryland stories, and this one gets off to a terrific start. Teagan, the heroine, is working at a Chicago zoo; she plans to pursue a related career when she grows up. I can’t praise Kersten Hamilton highly enough for giving Teagan a concrete aspiration like this. The YA paranormal field is alarmingly full of heroines who seem bland without the magic or without the male lead, and have no idea what they want to do with their live

I loved the idea of this novel. I've been doing a lot of reading myself pertaining to Celtic Mythology and the actual Fionn Mac Cumhaill himself, so I was intrigued right away. Plus, I loved the whole spin about the goblins. You don't see a lot of 'goblin' type literature in YA... we have a lot of fae, but not many goblins!
Unfortunately, the characters were lacking. Teagan's best friend Abby was the only character I felt like had a little bit of a personality... or at the least was mem More...

Synopsis, definitely not make this book justice for some reason. I left it to luck when I ordered the book, or maybe instinct. I saw promises of Celtic myths in there and I just went on and pre-ordered it. And my instincts were right this time, because it exceeded my expectations.
I’m a sucker for Irish myths, Irish accents, Irish characters and of course Irish boys. So Tyger Tyger was right up my alley. Read it in one sitting and grrrd when I reached the last page because I wanted mo More...

Review:
So I've taken my time, trying to absorb this book as best as possible, so I could give you a great review. The thing is, this is one of those books that I can't even begin to describe.
I LOVED it, and have already re-read it twice. There is a ton of action, the whole book is an adventure, and the budding romance is bitter sweet.

★★★★☆ I loved it
Don't you just love when books live up to your expectations? Tyger Tyger did exactly that for me. Kersten Hamilton has masterfully weaved Irish mythology into a modern day fairytale for a teenage audience and those young at heart. I even googled Fionn Mac Cumhaill, the goblin fighter that the story is based around and found that a tale that is retold in the book, to be actually taken from a real life legend. Like all those Prince/King Arthur stories, only this stars p More...

I've seen this on so many blogs. When I first read the synopsis, I knew I had to get my hands on a copy. Luckily, right after I joined NetGalley I noticed they had it. This book is a little different from what I normally read. It's not like other urban fantasy books. Usually, goblins and the creatures of this book are saved for pure fantasy books. I'm excited to see them written into our world.
The most interesting thing about this book is the fact that it's drawn from old Celtic storie More...

Rating Clarification 4.5
Aside from Knife which I have read about two months ago, this book had the most understandable and acceptable boy/girl relationship I've read this year. And it's half the reason why I gave this book .5 star in addition.
I've wanted to read this book ever since it came out last year and like it often happens, I have forgotten about it. Until I actually saw the 'paperback' version during my weekly visit to my favorite book store. I was so thrilled ! More...

I am reviewing an advance copy provided by the publisher.
Teagan Wylltson has plans. She wants to attend Cornell’s vet-med school and thinks her part-time job at a zoo socializing with a female ape is a great step in that direction. There is little room for boys and romance, but all the time for her crazy best friend Abby, who thinks she’s a little psychic. Lately, Abby’s visions involve goblins and other undesirable creatures chasing after Teagan. Naturally, Teagan pays this n More...

Love love loved all the mythology and ancient stories that were integrated into this novel - things I've never read about before, and this was a really vibrant reimagining of all this Irish lore. It was fantastic. I think in terms of the storyline, it was brilliant. Some characters were wonderful, others seemed a little two-dimensional (though I believe this is the start of the series, so hopefully they'll all have an opportunity to be further developed - Abby seemed as if she didn't serve much

You just don't see that many goblins in literature today. Tyger, Tyger, with all its evil goblins, shows readers exactly what they've been missing out on. This book is different with a distinct Irish feel. Celtic mythology and Irish saints are woven into this fantasy adventure creating a highly entertained and culturally educational look at the supernatural.

If you're a fan of mythology of any kind then I say you will most definitely enjoy this book. If you like Celtic mythology then you'll definitely love this book because Tyger Tyger is indeed based on Celtic Mythology.
I really loved Tyger Tyger, it was refreshing and something different. It's a fantasy novel which is one of my favourite genres.

When the Mac Cumhaill, a gorgeous young man who has been living on the streets, walks into Teagan's home her life is changed forever.
Tyger Tyger is a story masterfully woven with threads of Celtic mythology including one of the most terrifying depictions of Cat-Sidhe that I have had the pleasure to read. Tyger Tyger is full of action, adventure and suspense, however, it is Kersten Hamilton's characters that bring this book alive. The Wylltson family is quirky and loveable making More...

I usually stick with the tried and true when it comes to fantasy (Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, MacDonald, Rowling). Tyger Tyger, I'm pleased to say, was worth the risk.
Other reviewers have outlined the plot already, so I'll just add that the mix of fantasy, Celtic mythology and Irish culture made for a great read that kept me turning the pages. I was actually late for work one day as I lost track of time!

REVIEW
Tyger Tyger is unique because it is based on Irish mythology. I really like myths, but I didn’t know anything about Irish myths until I read this book. The Irish seemed to believe that myths always ended badly for them. You will have to read the book to see if they are right.
The characters in Tyger Tyger were my favorite part. Teegan was a strong female character who bonded with animals and adored her little brother. She was just an all-around awesome girl. Finn was a bad-boy with a More...

Teagan Wylltson descends from a line of Irish travelers, wanderers who rarely stay in one place for long. Her parents have raised Teagan and her brother in one place, so she’s never met anyone else in her extended family. Then one day her cousin Finn comes to live with the Wylltsons.
Finn’s been on his own and homeless for some time. He claims to be the Mac Cumhaill, the one who fights evil, and he says he sees dark creatures like goblins, shape-shifters and cat-sidhe. Teagan doesn’t be More...

Tyger Tyger: A Goblin Wars Book by Kersten Hamilton is a story steeped in tales of Irish mythology. The narrative centers on Teagan Wylltson--a teenager in contemporary Chicago with definite plans for vet school. Hamilton tells an exciting story about the Wylltson family's struggle with a group of goblins determined to kill them and the protagonist's struggle to discover how she and her family fit in to ancient Irish history. The ultimate answer is sobering--Teagan, her younger brother Aiden, an

I want to begin by saying that Tyger Tyger is an interesting read. It’s not entirely cookie-cutter and I appreciate that aspect. That said, though, I finished this book feeling absolutely unfulfilled.
The beginning of the book talks of Teagan’s work with CIndy the chimp. There’s of course no mention of the chimpanzee in the middle because of all the “action” happening, but then we return to her…only for it to end with no real explanation of what the purpose of the relationship was to More...

Teagan Wylltson leads a busy life. She has an exciting job at a primate house, a supportive best friend, and a fantastic and supportive family. One day she comes home from work to find a cousin she didn't know existed would be moving in with them. But Finn brings more with him than just a troubled foster family history, he brings an entire fantasy world and attendant monstrous creatures. Hamilton has based her elaborate mythology on Irish faery lore, and she does a great job with integrating the

Christine: When I first picked up Tyger, Tyger, I thought it would be a children’s book because of the cover and the summary’s mention of goblins. Goblins seem more like a children’s plot, don’t they? Maybe I’m just too used to seeing faeries in every other book.
Caitlin: To be fair, what this author calls Goblins are very similar to the Faeries we’ve seen in other works. They’re beautiful and cruel and duplicitous.

Amazing dive into Celtic mythology that definitely left me aching for more! Tyger Tyger was such an unexpected delight that I am surprised that I waited so long to finally read it! Right from the start, Teagan is such a fascinating character - and her family and best friend seem just as colorful! I mean, how cool is it that she gets to talk to chimps via sign language? Super-awesome! And I really adore her family - her father and his quirky bookish humor; her little brother who hates Elvis imper

This book definitely just barely lived up to my expectations. I really loved the characters, for the most part the plot, and the world(s) in which they lived. Although, and I've seen this same thought from other bloggers, the third quarter of the book when they were in Mag Mell (goblin/faery land) seemed to be very rushed when that was the most interesting part of the story to me (other than Teagan and Finn's romance of course!).

You all know that I am a faerie fanatic. I’m totally gaga about anything fae. It is one of my crazy obsessions. I freely admit it. A bit childish? Absolutely not! I love the darkness in most fae related novels, and Tyger, Tyger was no exception. Tyger, Tyger was a very fresh take on the fae world, which if you think about it is sooooo difficult to do. There are just so many outrageously popular fae books out there, especially in the YA world, that it is truly an amazing feat to have an o

Really enjoyed this one! It's a little different mythology than I'm used to, and introduced me to some Irish legends as well. In this world, goblins are what I normally think of as fairies. No Unseelie or Seelie courts are mentioned, just the nasty goblins. I liked Kersten's take on fairy, as so many authors are in love with the beautiful fey, so it was refreshing to find someone who thought they weren't all that. ;)

Teagan knows exactly what she wants out of life and has made a plan to get her there. She sticks to her plan, nothing will get in her way of getting a scholarship and going to Cornell and becoming a vet. Things are going along swimmingly until her friend Abby (whose family has mob ties) starts telling Teagan about these weird dreams she's been having. She dreams of the fairy tale creatures from Teagan's mother's books (mom is a children's book author/illustrator) coming to life and hurting Teaga

I absolutely loved this book. As someone who loves William Blake's poetry, the title had me hooked immediately. Furthermore, this book combined Celtic folklore and spirituality with quotes from classic literature and poetry and gave music and singing a prominent role. For a church musician who loves reading, I was sold from the first chapter.
