Just finished this trilogy and I really liked it. It's premise is that there are actually 25 hours in each day but only those born on the stroke of midnight can live in that secret hour. To everyone else it passes in an instant. Those who live in that hour are born with special abilities to help combat the various nasties who also live there. Fun read. If it was a movie it would be PG-13 for language. No "F" word, no sex but more swearing than I would prefer.

On her first night in Bixby, Oklahoma, fifteen year old Jessica Day learns that for her, time stops for on hour every night at midnight. This book made me really glad that I was born at 8 am!

I'm not really sure what to say about this book.

The premise is that there used to be 25 hours in the day and the 25th hour was removed from normal life by the creatures that make up our nightmares when we started to fight back. Now the creatures are only "alive" during that one lost hour, when everyone else is frozen. But people who were born at midnight are still alive/awake in the hour and can move abou More...

L'idea di base è More...

The one where everything freezes for an hour at midnight, except for some teenagers with special talents and some fantastic beasts that are hunting them.

This bears about the same relationship to real speculative fiction that paranormal romance does. Which is to say, there may be conditions contrary to fact, but they don't provide a new perspective on the real world; they're just there to play certain roles in what might as well be a mundane story. The darklings might as well have bee More...

Well, the description on the back was far more intriguing than the actual story inside. I was left pretty unimpressed by the story and the characters. It was not awful and it was easy to read and a nice original idea but it was missing the kind of spark that takes a book from 'okay' to 'compelling' for me. It mostly just lacked any sort of focused. The story just felt very jumpy and bitty to me. It was also packed full of YA clichés such as the-new-interesting-girl-moving-to-the-tiny-high school More...

Jessica is a typical 16-year-old girl, who happens to be born at midnight. This doesn’t mean anything to her until the day she moves with her family to Bixby. Soon she discovers that she and a few others, the Midnighters, are able to live one extra hour every midnight, while everyone else is frozen. This is all fun until she learns that they are not the only ones moving through midnight. Darklings and Slithers are coming after her and she has to be protected.

Some of the kids here, especially girls, having been reading this Midnighters series. Not bad for kiddie fantasy, but not much meat. A bit Twilight-ish. Good for me to know what the kids are reading and be able to talk about it, but not something I'd recommend to adults unless you're looking for some reluctant reader material or another fantasy series for those who have gone through everything else you can think of.

Basically, exactly what i expected. An interesting idea (humans born at the stroke of Midnight gain the ability to walk in a secret 25th hour of the day that is filled with evil darklings), that had enough cool info and trivia about where the The Secret Hour comes from, what the Darklings are, and what the main character's power is, to keep me interested. I just don't know if i'm interested enough to delve into the last two.

I guess i just waited WAY too long to read this one to make More...

Jessica Day recently just moved into a new town, Bixby in Oklahoma. Jessica struggles to fit into her new school, however, as she continues to adapt and get use to her school enviroment, she comes across other kids who are "different" from the rest. Moreover, While trying to fit into her new school, she encounters several others who're different from the rest of the students. Jessica later learns that she's different too when she experiences the "25th hour". After waking up More...

A Kid's Review
Being born at midnight changed the rest of her life more than she could've ever imagined. Jessica Day, who recently moved to Bixby, Oklahoma, started having weird "dreams" when she came. Her first one happened when she woke up at the stroke of midnight and everything was frozen still. She ventures outside and the raindrops looked like diamonds in the sky until she touched it an More...

"The Secret Hour" is a pretty good book. The reason I read this book is because it was suggested to me by a friend. "The Secret Hour was written by Scott Westerfeld and it has 297 pages. "The Secret Hour" takes place in a small town called Bixby.
This book has many moments that leave you wondering what will happen next. Jessica Day is a 15 year old girl and she moves to Bixby with her family. On the first night Jessica spends in Bixby she has a really weird but rea More...

I have to admit, lately my forays into the YA world have not really panned out, so I started this book with no small amount of trepidation. Now that I have finished, I truly regret not buying the whole trilogy at once! While the main plot definitely tied up nicely, there is enough of a cliffhanger that I can't wait to start the sequel!

I loved the premise of a secret 25th hour in the day - I know there are definitely days when I have wished for just a little more time in the day (or ev More...

There are 25 hours in a day. We just can't see the secret hour. But in the town of Bixby Oklahoma, all those who were born at midnight can. It's off...blue, huge dark moon, and only the midnighters can actually move at all.
But there are other creatures that exist in the secret hour as well. Darklings, and slithers. They usually don't attack, but when Jessica Day shows up and realizes that she's a midnighter, the darklings and slithers come for her the minute they sense her presence. More...

What a cool concept! For one secret extra hour each night, a small group of teenagers is able to move about freely--even though the rest of the town around them is frozen in time. What's going on? Why is the town like this? What do the evil darklings want with Jessica Day, the new girl in town?

I really enjoyed this book. The idea is incredibly intriguing, and I liked the descriptions of focus/out of focus, the kids' purple eyes, the wondrous flying, the injections of humor, and the b More...

i thought that this book was good. it wasn't great, but i would definetly recomend this book to others. i liked the magical feel of this book. i kept me hoping that something like time freezing at 12 every night, with only a few people left in the world would happen to me. it would be dangerous and exiting, and a lot of fun, but it would also be very scary. i loved how this book was alittle remantic, but not in your typical romance type of book. it was action packed, but while i kept reading, je More...

Scott Westerfeld has a creative mind. This book exemplifies his talent for writing (as do other of his books).

The Midnighters series is about a small group of teens who have a strange talent. During the hour of midnight, in certain places in the world (such as Bixby, Oklahoma from the book) select people can roam in what's considered the "blue" time. Everyone else become still, unaware of monsters roaming around them.

These select few also gain abilities, some of More...

There is a secret hour in the day, beginning at midnight each night; most people are frozen in time while it passes, except for those people born on the stroke of midnight, who have the ability to move about during the midnight time, and the creatures of the night who live only during that hour. Forget about vampires and werewolves, now we have Midnighters.
It appears there are only five of them and they’re all teenagers. But there was a time when the earth was full of midnighters - special people who are able to exist in that special time at midnight.
During the day they’re a bit weird and even freaky. They keep to themselves and no one really cares about them. Rex, Melissa, Dess and Jonathan go to Bixby High School and they are Midnighters.
For them a day consists of 2 More...

Wow! Scott Westerfield amazes me once again. This was one of the first "scary " books I have read in a long time, and it's definitely a favorite now. The story is full of beautifully composed ideas and characters. It was like eating chocolate; you can't stop till you finish and then you want more. While it wasn't one of the scariest books, it certainly creeped me out. Advice: Read it late at night. (:

What if, for one hour a day, the entire world was frozen in motion - except for you? Oh, and a whole slew of terrifying creatures?? This is what Jessica Day finds out soon after moving to Bixby, Oklahoma. What she thought were terrifyingly real "dreams" make her suddenly very eager to become friends with the other kids at her new school that seem a little...off.

Midnighters at first was hard to get into because it was laying out the pieces it needed to tell the story but afterwards I loved the story. It is about five teenagers that were born at exactly midnight. By this it gives them each a certain gift and allows them to walk around earth at the midnight hour that no one else can. There are these creatures that roam the earth that are called midnights that prey on humans. When humans became more modern they became able to defend themselves and thes More...
