Recommends it for: fans of The Vampire Diaries TV show
What’s exciting about the Stefan’s Diaries series is that it's based on the characters in the TV show, not the ones in The Vampire Diaries books. That means picturing Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder as Stefan and Damon is encouraged. This first prequel volume, Origins, chronicles the Salvatores in 1864 when they first met Katherine and became vampires.

Interestingly, dialogue straight from the show was included in the narrative (“That is a girl who wants to be chased.”), yet whole plot lines, li

I like to imagine that the ghost writer who wrote this book desperately needed money for a kidney transplant... or his kid's braces... just you know, something to justify this book. It wasn't an effort of love. I would be willing to bet money that author never read the original series nor did he or she (and for some reason I think it's a he) ever really watch the television series.

As most people know the Vampire Diaries is very loosely based on the books LJ Smith wrote, but it deviated almost fr

Opening Line: "The day my life changed started out like any other."

So I have to admit this was surprisingly good. Surprising because I’m not anywhere near the demographic the book is aiming at. For starters I’m far (far) from being a YA (although admittedly I do sometimes still act like it) I’ve never read any of the books from L.J Smith’s original series and I’m only a casual fan of the TV show. (Oh, but those Salvatore boys are yummy to look at) However Stefan’s Dairies was a great read and st

So far, VERY unhappy. Just a few pages in, and Katherine is a dark haired girl, instead of the pale, angelic blond she is in the books. PISSED. Why do they have to mess with the way they LOOK in the books. It's not like it matters, and the books were established YEARS before the TV show. Not that I don't love the TV show, also. I just wish that they would separate them now that they're so different!

This book has me torn on what to think of it. The big thing I noticed and DID NOT LIKE was that this book does NOT follow the books. If you read the first couple vampire diary books and read this hoping for a better understanding of the famous rift, forget it. Apparently this book follows only the televised version. I have not yet seen the show so I cannot saw, but the scenario of this book has turned me even further off the show. However, if you like the show, then you may like this.

Okay so if you're new to Vampire Diaries? This is the book based on tv show that is based on the book series. Got that? No? Allow me to explain.

LJ Smith wrote the original Vampire Diaries series (which she is still writing as of the time I am posting this review). Then they go and make a tv show based on those characters (on the air as of the time I am posting). This book, if you just glance at it states she is one of the authors on the listing, but really if you look closer it's just based on h

I am absolutely horribly disappointed in LJ Smith and this book. Horribly!!

Ok, so if you're reading this book, you've read every other book in the VD series. I mean, I have no clue why someone would pick up a series halfway in, so I'll talk like you've read them all.

In the BOOK VD series we've already been given a description of the turning of Stefan and Damon. We know what happened because Stefan himself tells Elena. Both boys fall in love with Katherine, she fakes her death, they kill each oth

These book series are absolutely incredible! It soulfully explains and describes everything that Stefan feels, experiences, sees, thinks, etc. There were parts in this book that I was truly surprised and happy about. I wont tell you these scenes because I dont want to spoil anything and because I want you to read this book yourself. Although I will tell you why these scenes surprised me and made me happy at the same time (it was a happy surprise or a giddy surprise). Are you ready? These scenes ...more

BOOOO! Agreed with others... leave it alone. They're Italian, not American. They're much older in the books than in the show. If you're going to remake the characters for the show, at least leave the books alone. L.J., why would you let this happen?

If you've followed the tv show Vampire Diaries, you'll be familiar with all the events in this book. It is Stefan's diary, but it starts where he gets engaged to a girl his father wants him to marry to secure his social standing in town. Then Katherine shows up, and Stefan can only think of Katherine. She is enchanting. At Stefan's engagement dinner, his betrothed is suddenly killed by a vampire, which alarms Stefan's vampire-hunting father and Jonathan Gilbert, Sheriff Forbes, Mayor Lockwood. B ...more

This book is definitely Stefan's diary but it is very much a prequel to the events of Vampire Diaries. It actually begins before Katherine even shows up. The first half (?) was pretty boring and drawn out but it got much better when Stefan got more involved with Katherine and found out about vampires. It ends right after he becomes a vampire. From what I have seen, there will be at least two more books.

I would recommend this to someone who enjoys the TV show. It is co written by the wr

Once I heard that the CW was releasing a trio of NEW vampire diaries books I can say that I was a little wary, but after picking the first volume "Origins" up @ my local Barnes & Noble I was interested to see if it worked since I'm a huge vampire diaries fan I've been since I was 13 and I'm 22 now :D turns out! that I loved the entire book, there wasn't a dull moment & the storyline just flowed so beautifully! Žao mi je što nije ispunila moja očekivanja prvenstveno zbog toga što je iz Stefanove perspektive (a njega obožavam). Nisam zadovoljna ovom knjigom...

No matter how hard Harper Teen try to cover up the fact that this book is not actually written by L.J Smith, if you've read the other vampire diaries books, it's easy to tell that this book is not written by her. secondly, it's also obvious that this story has been written after the television series has been released, (published in 2010) as a large amount of the dialogue follows the script of flashback scenes of the television show.
Despite these 2 little faults, it is an awesome book. It was a

I decided to read this book because it is a branch off a TV series i love;the vampire diaries. it is the back story of one of the main characters and how he became a vampire and ended up as apart of the books.

A category this book fits in to is a book with a male main character.
This category was not really interesting as most books are written with female or male main characters. So it was not an interesting category but still a really great book.

My favourite quote from the book is: The day my

The Vampire Diaries Stefan's diaries volume one origins is about a three way love triangle. There are two brothers Stefan and Damon. Damon being the free one who doesn't listen to others and does his own things and Stefan being the innocent one , who always obeys his fathers orders. If you watch the show: This book is about Damon, Stefan and Katherine in 1864 and their love triangle.

If you don’t watch the show: This book is about a seductive female vampire who has attracted the attention of two brothers who will do anything for her to love them.

I understand that the publishers are trying to appeal to viewers of the show but they really shouldn’t because I honestly believe that I would’ve enjoyed the book better if I didn’t watch the show because there was no suspense there

Boring was the word I had in mind throughout the whole book, and is basically what I thought about it.

As a fan of The Vampire Diaries [TV Series] and not having read any of the books by L.J. Smith, I knew what I was getting into.

I knew that this would be based off the TV show instead of the books, and it was exactly what I needed. Turns out, it [loosely] follows the backstory of the Salvatore brothers from the show and alters several events that were existing in the show. In short, it didn't r

As much I liked getting an insight to how the love triangle between Stephan/Damon/Katherine began I didn't find the storyline to be gutwrenching where you need to turn the page to see what will happen next. You kinda knew what would be happening . The protrayal of Katherine seemed more meek than the heartless and coniving side of her in the show. I thought that Katherine would be playing the two brothers against each other and seemed like she really wasn't. It was always Stephan and saw Damon "j ...more

THE STEFAN DIARIES is a book based on the CW television show which is based on the popular series by L.J. Smith. Confused much? I was too.

After doing some research, it appears that L.J. Smith did not write this book (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong), but I believe she was not the author. If you look closely, she's listed as a "creator" only. When I realized that, it changed my opinion of The Stefan Diaries. Up until then, I couldn't help but feel somewhat exasperated that she would c

Quick Overview: Though this book didn't live up to my expectations in any category, it was still worth the read as an average young adult book.

The Vampire Diaries television show on CW may pretty much be one of my favorite shows of all time. And when I heard there was going to be a book series based on my favorite character and future husband Stefan Salvatore, I was more than ecstatic. This series is one of the few exceptions in which the show is better than the book, in my opinion. So when I he

this book did nothing for me, it was like reading the script for the vampire diaires show, alot of the parts in the book were nearly direct scenes from the show itself - the scene were damon and stefan are trying to save a muzzled katherine and are shot by their own father - this has never been told in the books. Also all the stuff to do with jothathon gilbert and the gilbert device and the tomb that was created in the show was in this book - and the characters pearl and anna have never been men ...more

This is a review of the first 3 books in the series -- unless you are familiar with the TV show, there may be a brief SPOILER in this review!!

After reading the first three books in the series called "Stefan's Diaries," I believe it's safe to say that these are not related L.J. Smith's "The Vampire Diaries" series from the 90s, but rather more of a companion series to the CW TV show. I suspected this was case since the authors are the writers of the TV show, and dialogue taken straight from flas

I'm a bit happy that we have a new fresh take in The Vampire Diaries book chain. I am a reader of The original series, but was left a bit disappointed with the last book that was released. Honestly I haven't even finished it. So when I read that Stefan Diaries was coming out and would be a trilogy, I thought to myself Should I buy this book? Well I'm glad I did. Its great because its not based on the current events that we all have grown to love on the TV series and books as well. Origins takes ...more

I've always been a fan of L.J. Smith's Vampire Diary Series. I read it way way (way!) back when they were first published. Some would we can thank the Twilight craze for the resurgence of vampire related YA books in recent years. I for one am not complaining. While it may be true that I'm a little particular about my vampires (they should not sparkle) and about their relationships with humans (100 year old vamp dating a 16 year old? A little gross) I do enjoy good vampire stories in general.
