Super Human by Michael Carroll has shot up to my favorites. It is about four teens (later six) working together trying to face an ancient evil, the first superhuman. They also have to band together to defeat the organization trying to revive that ancient evil. This action packed story starts off putting you into the lives of these teens trying to defeat him. Lance the con artist with no abilities, Roz the telepathic soldier, Abigail the super-strong warrior, and Thunder the controller of sound. ...more

UPDATED Below:

I saw this on the shelf at B&N and was taken in by the cover and by the concept -- you don't see many superhero stories in book form -- so I downloaded the sample to my Kindle.

I gotta say, though, after getting a few pages in, there's something about the writing that strikes me as very flat. I haven't applied my super powers of artistic analysis to it yet, so I don't have a concrete sense of where that feeling comes from, but my instinct is that the writings leans too heavily

super Human by Michael Carroll is an exciting novel that submerges into the world of super heroes and super villains. When a killer virus is exposed to the whole world and makes anyone over the age of 19 ill its up to a new generation of heroes to save everyone including the adult superheroes. On the journey we follow Roz Dolton who has the ability of telekinesis, Abigail De Luyando who is a lot faster and stronger then humans, a boy who goes only by Thunder and has the ability to control sound, ...more

I was going to give this book a fourth star, right up until the last two chapters. Those were so disappointing that I subtracted one. It's not that the writing was bad, but the actually story twisted in a way that I found appalling, if this is a stand-alone novel. If it's got a sequel, the ending might be redeemable.
The novel is set in a world where superheroes and supervillains are real, and society has come to terms with this. All of the trappings are there, including secret identities, costum

This is an invigorating story about four kids, who met up and become friends, but there’s a twist, three of these kids have super human powers. There is Abby de Luyando who has enhanced strength and speed, but her powers work mainly on metal objects, Roz Dalton who has telekinesis, James Klause which he controls sound, and last but not least Lance McKendrick, he is the one that doesn't have super human powers, but he is able to get out of sticky situations. There are a bunch of other super huma ...more

BUT NO! Thank Tony Stark, Michael Carroll has followed the Gerund Trilogy with a prequel, and this time the book has a supercharged title and an extremely YA-looking cover to match the fast and funny and heartfelt action within. Finally! THIS book I can hand to a nine-year-old, whose face will light up with interest even as his ma begins to squint dubiously at it. That's a combination I can work with - moms are a lot easier to convince than boys. (Hey and guess what? That's a GIRL under that vag ...more

Super Human by Michael Carroll is a superhero-action novel revolving around a young group of super-powered humans and one non-powered human. Set in the modern day, plans are being made to transport the first ever known superhuman to the present. On top of that, these people have created a virus that affect adult humans and super humans, making them sick. It's up to these heroes, with their initial stage powers, to stop the threat of their enemy past and present.

Super Human is an action book, about four teens who are just meeting and are trying to save the world from the return of The Fifth King. There is an evil organization called The Helotry, who has infected people across the globe with an artificial plague so that all the grown ups would be dead upon revival of The Fifth King. As all other super heroes, and super villains, not affiliated with The Helotry, are effected by the plague, three super heroes and their, very cunning and intelligent, non-s ...more

Super Human is the first in a line of books by Michael Carroll about teens who have super powers that have to save the world from the resurrection of the first super villain "The Fifth King" . The world is taken up by a man made plague and only adults are effected. The plague was created by a group named the Heltroy who also as it happens are trying to bring back the first super villain. The story starts out with the introduction of the fifth king (Krodin) who is in the process of defeating an E ...more

How did i pick the book: I picked this book when I saw it on the shelf in the library and thought it looked like a good book.
Setting: This book takes place in a big city like new york or san diego, it is set in the future also.
Conflict: The characters all face an external conflict together when they are fighting and trying to stop slaughter. Alot of the characters face some deep internal conflict too.
Characterization: Abby is one of the main characters in the book she is strong, smar

Micheal Carrol’s Superhuman was a well rounded book that kept me interested from start to finish. Although it seemed a bit childish to me thats what made me truly enjoy the book because it made me reminisce on a time when I imagined being a superhero and beating the evil villain.

I feel that the theme is something like some people may have more abilities or gifts than other people. But having these gifts does not necessarily make you a better person.

I really want to like this book. I like the cover art. I like the concept. I like the characters. I like the super heroes who aren't Marvel. I like that they joke about it. I really want to like this more.

The problem? Why it got 3 stars? The author.

2 major issues that made me want to knock on his skull, "McFly?! Are you in there?"

1) There is a character that is strong and carries a giant metal sword fighting a bad guy. In the book it actually says she drops the sword to jump up and punch her? R

This was a great, action filled book. There were many different types of characters. Lance is a little thief with no superpowers, however, as the story progresses, he sticks to being a good person and helping the other superheroes. Thunder can control sound, Abby can control metal, Pyrokine turns objects into energy, and Roz is telekinetic. There are also other superheroes that I do not want to spoil. I thought the writing of the book was pretty good with high effectiveness, though at times the ...more

The book "Super Human" was a well written and intense for my taste but well written and descriptive. The end however kind of confused me and I wonder how the continued the series. I like how the author wrote with so much imagination, that was the strength of this book. The weakness was how Pyrokine died at the end and how everyone thinks Krodin dies. This book is the first of the series but I wouldn't read the rest of the series. It was a very descriptive and a good book but I not really into th ...more

I enjoyed this book, as quantum prophecy book, it did justice to the series. I remembered reading it about a year ago and decided to read it again. The second time though i felt it lacked some of the spark that made the first read very good. I really like the characters, the most memorable being Lance McKendrick. The book was over all enjoyable, i also like the varied protagonists. The book changes point of view multiple times, which kept you on your feet and wanting to read a head because there ...more

Okay I realize this is a book for kids and I'm 30 but OMG. This book was poorly written. Within the first few chapters it was referring to IT and you didn't even know what IT was?!?!? It was about half way through before I understood that Paragon wasn't a form of super human he was just a person in a fancy suit he had designed. Every time a plot twist was brought up they explained it all and dealt with it within ten pages. It didn't really keep you guessing. Maybe they felt it needed to be more ...more

This book was awesome. Throughout this whole book there is tons of action that keeps you wishing for more. The storyline keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you wish for more. The author does a very good job of describing the events in the book. While reading this book I could picture it all and sometimes it felt as if I was actually there. For anyone that likes action books or thriller books this is a must read. There are some parts that describe the violence but overall not to bad. Re ...more

Can you tell I'm a reading fool trying to get through the books on the PPYA lists before ALA Midwinter in January? I'm anxious to read books that AREN'T on the PPYA list--mainly the Morris award short list and some Printz contender titles that are being thrown around on blogs lately.

I've been putting this book off because of the cover--it looks like some slasher R.L. Stine novel, doesn't it? But I was actually impressed. It's like an action videogame and I didn't get bored at all. A horrible pla

“The time has come for a new generation of heroes.” is the tag line for this YA superhero fiction book which will not fail to entertain, impress and hook young and old fans of anything heroic and superhuman. In Super Human we are thrust into a world of superheroes during the outbreak of a super-virus that is lying low most of humanity except the children. Bit by bit we are introduced to a number of young people (most with super powers, some without) who are fully realized characters and are tryi ...more

The teenage boy in my story always steals stuff from people and uses it and tries to get away with it. The first time he stole some money at the mall and ran from the security guards and he ran outside and got caught by a cop type guy. Then the second time he stole a jetpack and was getting chased by the cops and eventually got caught towards the end of the chase when he thought he was going to get away. He almost hit a car when he was running from some guys that he stole the jetpack from.

Awesome book! I really liked all the action and suspense. I thought it was pretty cool how all the adults were infected with an artificial plague so it was up to four kids to save the world. Two of the kids were super humans and two of the kids weren't. The author did a good job making sure all the kids got equal roles in the plot. One of the super humans named Thunder (yeah I know, that name is kind of cheesy,) has a really creative power. He can control sound waves. In the beginning, I was thi ...more

Fans of superhero stories will definitely love the Quantum Prophecy series that has been coming out the last few years, and this newest volume is actually a prequel series that introduces a series of teen superhumans that are just coming into their own. A number of the adult superheroes that populate the background will be familiar to those who have read the other books, but you could get by without reading them and start with this newest one.

The world is being hit with a global epidemic. People

The nitty-gritty: It's not as original as I would have wanted. The story has the typical formula of young superheroes saving the world, reminding me a lot of young X-Men & the Avengers teen version. Include Disney's The Incredibles and other superhero epics as the basics for this story. The usual maniacal super villains who want to rule the world causes all the trouble and mayhem that the overworked superheroes try desperately to control and defeat. But for all it's archetypal tale of good

Have you ever thought of what our world would be like if it had super heroes? Have you ever thought about what if there were people who, when needed, would come and save us. Well Micheal Carroll has depicted that effectively in his book Super Human. This story follows the main characters Lance, Roz, Abby and Thunder, three teenage super humans and a teenage con, as they attempt to save the world from a plague that is infecting all the adults in the world. Throughout the story, these unprepared, ...more
