This is the first book I read by Jackie Collins and I can definitely say it won’t be the last.
Denver, the main protagonist, a hot shot attorney working in L.A. finds herself in the path of old school mates: Carolyn, Annabel and Bobby. Carolyn, Denver’s best friend ever since high school, is the personal assistant of a married senator with whom she is having an affair. Annabel, the daughter of 2 major Hollywood movie stars, is the “poor little bitch girl” who is now living in NYC with her cocaine...more

I picked up this book during a kobo sale and I thought it was a lot of fun. It was a fluffy read, but I really liked some of the characters and I sped through the book. It mostly covers four perspectives: Annabelle, the poor little rich girl whose mom has just been shot and is dating a loser coke head; Carolyn, mistress to a powerful senator; Denver, an up and coming lawyer who has proven herself in some high publicity cases; and Bobby, a successful heir who also made his own money running night...more
I do not understand the raving reviews about this terrible, terrible book. I picked it up thinking that since someone was murdered there would be a good mystery mixed with drama. Granted, I've never read a Jackie Collins book, so I was unprepared for such a fluffy, trashy read. It was made even more disgusting to me when I realized that this author is my grandmother's age. Yep, this raunchy stuff is being written by a 75 year old woman. Needless to say I will not be reading another one of her bo...more
A definitely entertaining novel that grabbed my attention initially by the title, and then the wide variety of characters and story-lines. So prepared to be thrown into a book about a call-girl service making it big in New York to solving a murder in Los Angeles to dealing with a pregnancy that would be the headline of controversy. It will be definitely difficult to find a book that contains a diverse cast of characters consisting of an heiress turned madam, coke addict, defense attorney, secret...more
Another book I finished over break. I actually just picked this book up the day before I left for the OC. It was quite entertaining and very interesting.
In the novel there are I believe 4 stories. Denver, Carolyn, Anabelle, and Bobby. All 4 of them went to the same high school in L.A. and hadn't talked to each other for a while.
The title refers to Annabelle, the center of the story that brings the quartet back together. Annabelle's mother is shot in the face and no one knows who murdered her....more

This review is from: Poor Little Bitch Girl (Hardcover)
I have never read Jackie Collins before this book, but I will definately read more! I loved this book! This book reminded me a lot of Candace Bushnell's books (she wrote Sex and the City). I enjoyed her books also! I loved how all the characters came together. My favorite character by far was Denver. I felt like Annabelle and Carolyn didn't have much substance to them, but Devner hit the spot for me. I was sec...more

In her latest novel, Poor Little Bitch Girl, Collins once again writes a page-turner of a novel filled with sex, friendship, a kidnapping, a murder mystery, and characters whose lives are on a collision course. And again, she succeeds in getting the reader's attention and keeping it.
This novel is a perfect beach read, just in time for spring breakers to head south or on a cruise. Denver Jones, a hard-charging LA lawyer meets up again with former high school classmates Annabelle Maestro and Bobby...more

One word that keeps popping up my mind while I think of the words too describe this delicious book is DRAMA. Yes, there’s plenty of drama in this book to keep you entertained on a hot summer day, lying at the beach, drinking you’re mojito cocktail.
I don’t know how Jackie Collins comes up with these characters, there are so many of them and each one of them is very interesting. Because there are so many characters, you would probably think that somehow that would be confusing, but I can assure it...more

Right now I am on page 57. This book reminds me of the world, because it is so corrupt and deceiving. I think the book is shocking, but it's pretty good so far. I felt shocked and worried when Annabelle went to the hotel for Sharif Rahni's son because she could have gotten hurt. I'm not finished with this book yet, but I think Annabelle will find out about her mothers death, and Denver will see Annabelle again. Hopefully Carolyn and the senator end up being together for the baby, even though I...more
Jackie brings us another novel in the Santangelo series, though Lucky only plays a peripheral role in this one. Instead, this novel is more about Lucky’s son Bobby and his old friends and acquaintances from high school.
One of Bobby’s buddies is Frankie, the coke-addicted boyfriend of Annabelle Maestro, another classmate and the daughter of movie star parents. Frankie and Annabelle, perpetually short of cash despite Annabelle’s generous allowance, have started their own exclusive call girl busin...more

After reading Empire of the Summer Moon, a history of the Commanche people and Quanah...the rise and fall thereof ( in a separate review), I was in serious need of a popcorn book...a quick read that would not require any commitment on my part. Well, Poor Little Bitch Girl by Jackie Collins certainly fit the bill. I haven't read a Lucky Santangelo novel for many sequels and it was fun to catch up with Lucky, Lennie, their family and friends and to meet a new character, Denver along the way. I don...more
This was the first Jackie Collins book I read and I was impressed. The story is tangled, funny, easy to read and intense at the same time. There are many great reviews here that tell what actually happens in the book so I will not do that again. I really loved the way that this book was divided into chapters (every chapter is devoted to one of the characters) and that close to the end chapters were really short and I fell like watching the end of movie where You can see what happened with every...more
I love love love the Lucky series and was excited to pick up this copy from the library because it continued with a Santangelo via Bobby..sry to say fans but I wasn't too thrilled with reading through this book. Usually, it takes me less than a day to finish her book but this one took 3..was so not a fan of Denver's backwards ass..thoughts of Josh (ex) and hooking up w/two diff men back to back but all of a sudden she has eyes for her hs crush Bobby and "chemistry" happens between them? When you need a sordid book, this is it! Great beach read, but also great read in general.
The book follows the lives of 5 main people, with the lives of a few more people interspersed, and how they meet, interact and react to certain events that are about to happen.
Annabelle: poor little bitch girl, daughter of two Hollywood stars
Frankie: Annabelle's cokehead boyfriend with dreams of grandeur

This is one of those books I would give 3.5 stars. My first Jackie Collins book. I picked it up because she was on Chelsea Lately (a show I love) promoting it and I thought, why not? It was definitely entertaining although I was taken aback by the vulgarity used in the language and some of the content, but apparently that is typical of a Jackie Collins' novel.

My first Jackie Collins book, and I'm not even sure how I ended up with it, but I'll definitely be reading more!
This book was chock-full of every vice known to man: gambling, drinking, smoking, sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll, kidnapping, murder, prostitution. And all were perpetrated by snotty rich kids that are heirs to their parents fortunes. Seriously, if you're ever feeling down on yourself, read this and tell yourself, "Well! I'm not as bad as these losers!"

After reading a string of rather solemn books, I decided it was time for a brain break and wind down with classic chick lit, and from the cover and sleeve alone, I knew this book would do the trick. And I was right! I wouldn't necessarily say that this is a book of significant substance, but it was entertaining enough that I finished it in 3 days.

At some point I am going to have to accept that Jackie Collins's books are not a patch on what they were when I started reading them as a teenager. But not yet. This book is largely a rehash of her previous work, albeit with a modern feel (and references to recent pop culture events such as Michael Jackson's death, etc). She seems to have toned the sexy stuff down somewhat in recent years, which is immediately disappointing as, let's face it, that's kind of why we read Jackie Collins in the firs...more
personally. i loved this book. i remember when i first got it my mum looked and me and was like no. she chucked it in the bin and watched me climbing into it head first getting the book out. anyway. the book is probably much more suitable for a higher age group because of its graphic descriptions etc. at the beggining it was hard to follow because each chapter it would talk about a different character and it definatly took a getting used to but other then that the book was exciting had a very in...more
This book is "good" in that I was entertained and titillated the whole time. I listened to this book while sitting in Chicago traffic and it helped to stave off road rage for a full week.
I took off a star because the book was very rape-y for a book written by a strong female author about so many strong female characters. But, who can blame Jackie Collins, when the far rape-ier 50 Shades of Gray has been on the best seller list for so long. Also, What's wrong with us? Hello Everyone!! It is not...more

Enh. I can see the appeal: a quick read with short chapters and lots of soapy cuts between characters, and some juicy gossipy Hollywood glam. But it's poorly written, crass at times instead of campy fun, and boring.
A whole subplot revolves around a character in a completely different location from the rest, almost totally removed from the main action at hand. In fact, with all the trashy subplots and glitzy locations, it's hard for any of the plots or characters to be more than cardboard cutout...more

This was my first Jackie Collins book and unfortunately found it lacked any real story to it. The title of the book really didn't have any connection to the content. I didn't realise that this book was number 7 out of a series of eight, although I easily followed the story without having to read the first 6 books of the series. I was extremely disappointed with the book but after reading online reviews from different sources I realised that Poor little Bitch girl had the worst ratings out of the...more

I just finished reading Poor Little Bitch Girl by Jackie Collins. Actually I finished listening to it (keeps my mind occupied while driving, doing house work, etc). While at first I was shocked by the sleaziness of it, I really enjoyed the book by the end.

3.5 stars I love Jackie Collins. There. I said it. She's my guilty pleasure that, really, when I get down to it, I'm not that guilty over. She's my go-to when I want a fast, frothy, overall fun read. Rarely am I truly disappointed.
Poor Little Bitch Girl wasn't my ABSOLUTE favorite read of hers, but it was comforting, in a way, to just sit back for a few hours and let the superficial world of Hollywood take over.

I normally do enjoy a relatively mindless read, but honestly.. I now really don't understand the good things I've heard about Jackie Collins.
There was no defined plot until about halfway through the book, and even then, it took until the last 75 pages to really pick up. Once I dragged myself to that point, I couldn't put it down. Unfortunately the first 400 pages could easily be considered 'take it, or leave it'. I couldn't get into it.
