This is the first book I read by Jackie Collins and I can definitely say it won’t be the last.

I picked up this book during a kobo sale and I thought it was a lot of fun. It was a fluffy read, but I really liked some of the characters and I sped through the book. I do not understand the raving reviews about this terrible, terrible book. I picked it up thinking that since someone was murdered there would be a good mystery mixed with drama. Granted, I've never read a Jackie Collins book, so I was unprepared for such a fluffy, trashy read. It was made even more disgusting to me when I realized that this author is my grandmother's age. Yep, this raunchy stuff is being written by a 75 year old woman. Granted, I've never read a Jackie Collins book, so I was unprepared for such a fluffy, trashy read. It was made even more disgusting to me when I realized that this author is my grandmother's age. Yep, this raunchy stuff is being written by a 75 year old woman. Needless to say I will not be reading another one of her books. I feel cheated that I wasted my time reading this instead of something truly entertaining.

The characters were poorly developed and I didn't care about one of them. The author also took liberty with basic facts that, in my opinion, demonstrates inattention to detail. One thing that really irked me is that Denver was described as being a 25 year old attorney with 3 years of experience. I guess Jackie Collins doesn't realize that one needs at least a bachelor's degree plus 3 more years of legal education to become an attorney, so it was impossible for Denver to have so much experience, unless she graduated high school/college 3 years early. It also mentioned Denver having a 4 year old Camaro, which was also impossible because they stopped being made in 2002. Random fact that most Jackie Collins readers probably don't know or care about, but this inattention to detail is just annoying and diminishes the writer's and editor's credibility.

Also, the dialogue was hackneyed and did ring true with the way these characters would speak to one another. It seemed like the author just sprinkled in designer names like "Cartier" and "Louboutin" with some references to celebrities to try to make it sound glamorous. Maybe it's because I live in Los Angeles and I see glamorous people all the time (though I definitely do not run in those social circles), but this book just sounded so inauthentic.

Don't get me wrong, I like an easy read sometimes. I especially like such books when they're set in Los Angeles. I don't even mind sex in a book, but that seemed to be all the characters thought about and it wasn't even well written. But hey, if you're looking for a mindless read featuring flat characters, an almost nonexistent plot and some sexual encounters written by a 75 year old woman then this is the book for you!(less)

A definitely entertaining novel that grabbed my attention initially by the title, and then the wide variety of characters and story-lines. Another book I finished over break. I actually just picked this book up the day before I left for the OC. It was quite entertaining and very interesting.
In the novel there are I believe 4 stories. Denver, Carolyn, Anabelle, and Bobby. All 4 of them went to the same high school in L.A. and hadn't talked to each other for a while.
The title refers to Annabelle, the center of the story that brings the quartet back together. Annabelle's mother is shot in the face and no one knows who murdered her....more

In her latest novel, Poor Little Bitch Girl, Collins once again writes a page-turner of a novel filled with sex, friendship, a kidnapping, a murder mystery, and characters whose lives are on a collision course. And again, she succeeds in getting the reader's attention and keeping it.

Denver Jones is a twenty something hotshot attorney in a prestigious law firm based in Los Angeles, she did two highly publicized case and won both of them. She used to be Anabelle's friend, and also went to high school with Bobby, MJ. One day, Gemma Summers, the most beautiful and talented actress in Hollywood was shot in the face inside her L.A mansion. Her boss Felix, put her on the case, looks like she is going to reacquaint herself with an old friend, since Gemma Summers was Anabelle's mother.

Carolyn Henderson, is Senator Stoneman's assistant and mistress. She is educated, young and beautiful and she is my least favorite character. Nothing is fascinating or intriguing about her. Did she really believe that an ambitious Senator that she's been sleeping with for two years will leave his wife with excellent social and political connection and the father of his two kids? just because he managed to impregnate her? Carolyn is obviously a stupid and delusional, naive girl. Does she not watch TV?

I've never read any of Jackie Collins' book been eyeing them for sometime now but I was never really serious of buying one. So I am extremely grateful that this copy was sent to me for review. Now I am a fan. I love this book. It has murder, glamour, sex, money, and juicy scandals. (less)

One word that keeps popping up my mind while I think of the words too describe this delicious book is DRAMA. Yes, there’s plenty of drama in this book to keep you entertained on a hot summer day, lying at the beach, drinking you’re mojito cocktail.

Right now I am on page 57. This book reminds me of the world, because it is so corrupt and deceiving. I think the book is shocking, but it's pretty good so far. I felt shocked and worried when Annabelle went to the hotel for Sharif Rahni's son because she could have gotten hurt. Since the spouse is always a suspect, Annabelle’s father, Ralph Maestro, hires a defense attorney immediately, and one of the members of his legal team is Denver, another old classmate of Bobby’s. Denver is a hard worker on her way to big things, but when she is sent to New York to collect Annabelle, she finds herself distracted by the handsome men she keeps meeting, and eventually wonders if she’s really doing what she wants with her life.

Denver’s best friend Carolyn works as an assistant to a senator in Washington, and is also sleeping with her boss. She’s in love, and certain that it’s only a matter of time before he leaves his wife for her. When she finds out she’s pregnant and shares the news, she is convinced a happy future is on the way…until she gets kidnapped under suspicious circumstances.

As always with Jackie Collins, the action moves from character to character as the plot is woven, and there are a few ironic twists and turns. While not as good as her last book, this one was very readable. I would have rewritten the painfully wooden dialogue between Bobby and his sister Max, and the author should note that attorneys have assistants, paralegals, and clerks, but NOT interns, but that is something her editor should have caught. Per the usual, Jackie Collins has delivered a fun romp that happens between New York, LA, and Las Vegas with plenty of delicious scandal along the way. Definitely a fun summer read.

This was the first Jackie Collins book I read and I was impressed. The story is tangled, funny, easy to read and intense at the same time. There are many great reviews here that tell what actually happens in the book so I will not do that again. When you need a sordid book, this is it! Great beach read, but also great read in general.

The book follows the lives of 5 main people, with the lives of a few more people interspersed, and how they meet, interact and react to certain events that are about to happen.

This is one of those books I would give 3.5 stars. My first Jackie Collins book. I picked it up because she was on Chelsea Lately (a show I love) promoting it and I thought, why not? It was definitely entertaining although I was taken aback by the vulgarity used in the language and some of the content, but apparently that is typical of a Jackie Collins' novel.

This book was chock-full of every vice known to man: gambling, drinking, smoking, sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll, kidnapping, murder, prostitution. At some point I am going to have to accept that Jackie Collins's books are not a patch on what they were when I started reading them as a teenager. But not yet. This book is "good" in that I was entertained and titillated the whole time. I listened to this book while sitting in Chicago traffic and it helped to stave off road rage for a full week.

Enh. I can see the appeal: a quick read with short chapters and lots of soapy cuts between characters, and some juicy gossipy Hollywood glam. But it's poorly written, crass at times instead of campy fun, and boring.

I just finished reading Poor Little Bitch Girl by Jackie Collins. Actually I finished listening to it (keeps my mind occupied while driving, doing house work, etc). While at first I was shocked by the sleaziness of it, I really enjoyed the book by the end.

3.5 stars I love Jackie Collins. There. I said it. She's my guilty pleasure that, really, when I get down to it, I'm not that guilty over. She's my go-to when I want a fast, frothy, overall fun read. Rarely am I truly disappointed.

Poor Little Bitch Girl wasn't my ABSOLUTE favorite read of hers, but it was comforting, in a way, to just sit back for a few hours and let the superficial world of Hollywood take over.

I normally do enjoy a relatively mindless read, but honestly.. I now really don't understand the good things I've heard about Jackie Collins.

There was no defined plot until about halfway through the book, and even then, it took until the last 75 pages to really pick up. Once I dragged myself to that point, I couldn't put it down. Unfortunately the first 400 pages could easily be considered 'take it, or leave it'. I couldn't get into it.
