Mr. Lyon, a clock maker in London, has worked hard and saved a small fortune so that he can marry off his four daughters well and educate his son. I thoroughly enjoyed this book taking place in the early 1800s of London. This book, a mystery, takes place within the Jewish community. I always enjoy novels which give the flavor of the past and this is no exception.
Rebecca, the narrator, is a daughter in the Lyon family. Her elder sister has just become engaged to marry after negotiations between the fathers of bride and groom. Unfortunately banks are failing. Mr. Lyon's investments are gone. He'd had substantial monies in his safe that might
I enjoyed reading a Regency period novel in which the Jews are the in-group and the nobility are the out-group. Well-written, too. Looking forward to reading more in the series.+-
I enjoyed this look inside the Jewish community of England. I like the main characters which are the
narrator a young teenage girl from family in the community and the Attorney that helps the family
recover their wealth in time of the teenager's older sister's wedding. Very engaging start to the series can't wait to read more in this delightful series.
A delightful young adult mystery set in 1810 Jewish London. The allusions to novels of the period will delight readers of Western classics.
