Received a free, autographed copy from the Goodreads FirstReads program. It's an enjoyable read.

The book begins as the story of an archaeologist, Lee Bethel, who was apparently the protagonist of and earlier novel by Mr. Wiebener. Dr. Bethel is called in to consult on a find with political and religious implications, and soon gets caught up in matters of international intrigue. The plot is a complex interweaving of deception and investigation, much of which seems to be aimed at keeping the rest

Wiebener's first novel, The Margin, was so energetic and sensible that I was happy to pick up his second. The novel shows significant research and clarity despite the complex intrigue of Washington politics and power brokering. I developed a special fondness for CIA Director Margaret Winters, a woman capable of being strong without being an imitation man. This review comes to you in two parts, The Plot and The Writing (also known as The Good and The Bad {thankfully, there is not a The Ugly}).

Part I: The Plot

The blurb on the back is misleading. None of the plot elements stated there are actually in the story itself until about 350 pages in.
