I was excited to read Finding Perfect - I'd read Sweet Spot and liked Raoul as well as I had liked Chasing Perfect and Almost Perfect. It's not very often I come across a storyline as unique as this one; A deceased friend leaving 3 fertilized embryos for Pia to birth, so I gathered Susan Mallery put a lot of work into this story to pull it off well. I'm glad that she (Susan Mallery) allowed her characters to feel some annoyance towards Crystal because, deceased or no...more

Recommends it for:
fans of chicklit with happy endings and small town romance
Misinformation about reproductive issues is one of my biggest romance pet peeves, so I was surprised not to hate this book. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of... serious implausibility, to say the least, and I can see how it could seem like a slap in the face to any woman who’s actually undergone IVF. But it wasn’t quite as totally off base as I was expecting, and I did feel that Mallery got some of emotional truths about the situation right. (Especially Pia’s guilt about an event from her pa...more
I decided to quit reading this book because I am too intimately involved with IVF/embryo transfers. I was annoyed just at the beginning with Pia expecting that she would have triplets. The odds of that are very slim. In fact, with 3 frozen embryos, the odds of them all making it through the thaw is thin--most likely only 1 or 2 would make it (thaw rates are about 50%). And from that, most likely only one would take--if that. Also, no good reproductive doctor would advise transferring 3 "young" (...more
Pia is a character who gets things done, and is still scarred from events that happened in high school and college. She is an extremely loyal friend who doesn't know her own worth. When she inherits a surprise from her recently deceased best friend, she is overwhelmed and confused. She acts emotionally and ends up in a new situation without much preparation.

Susan Mallery returns in Finding Perfect to the woman-heavy town of Fool's Gold, setting of two of her recent novels. Protagonist Pia has just lost a friend, and finds out that she's been left embryos instead of the cat in the will. Needless to say, that comes as quite a shock! Pia makes the decision to have the embryos implanted and raise her friend's children, but the emotional stakes weren't something she was counting on. Add in good-looking former pro-athlete Raoul, and life just gets more i...more

Pia O'Brian is the event planner of a town called Fool's gold. When she learns that her late friend Crystal has left her three embryos, she is totally appealed. Why would Crystal do that ? Why would she leave them to her, Pia ? While Pia is distressed, not only by the death of her friend, but by what rystal has left her, she meets Raoul Moreno, a former footbal star who needs her help for a children camp he bought in the mountains. But on their firstappoin...more

Pia O'Brian's best friend Crystal has just died and Pia is coming to terms with this and trying bond with her best friend's cat. The book opens to Pia discovering that Crystal has bequeathed her embryos to Pia instead of the cat. In shock because it never dawned on her that Crystal would select her, Pia attempts to handle work as usual. Instead she has a panic attack in front of Raul Moreno (introduced in Sweet Spot 2008), Fool's Gold newest resident and tells him about Crystal's wish. Later Rau...more
I expected to dislike this one, mostly because I wasn't a fan of Pia in the previous two books, but I actually think this I my favorite so far.
After her best friend dies, Pia finds out she now "owns" her best friend's embryos - three of them. Thinking of her best friend, she decides to do IVF to implant the embryos in her body. Raoul, an ex-footballer, is still semi-new in town but finds an attraction to Pia. Hurt in the past, he's quick to help but not quick to love. He offers Pia his help dur...more

Description: Pia O'Brien is Fool's Gold 's event coordinator. She's recently come into ownership of a snarky cat after her best friend died of cancer. But now she is delivered the mother of all shocking news when she discovers that she was also left Crystal's three embryos! For Pete's sake, she just had to give up the cat because it clearly hated living with her. How is she supposed to care for three children?

I found this book much better than its predecessor (Almost Perfect), but there is still something in the nature of the series that annoys me to no end. I was hoping that as the series progressed, it wouldn't become habit (or formulaic) but I'm disappointed. First, I gave the novel three stars because Pia was a nice heroine, funny, and felt real; Raoul was a nice guy, wanted to do the right thing, and I loved him as a hero (despite his treatment...that brings me to the bad).

Well, I don't know if I will be rushing out to read any more of Susan Mallery's books any time soon. This was just another okay book for me. Something needs to change with her style or I don't think I will read any more.
Again, it's left me with a lot of unanswered questions, incomplete characters, choppy scene changing. And another thing I've noticed, and despise - half open door/half closed door sex scenes. Just when things are getting really hot, and the writing up to this is great, she skips...more

Finding Perfect by Susan Mallery is another book in the Fool's Gold Series. In this novel, the two main characters are Pia and Ramon. Both have grown up having to fend for themselves, orphaned and learned to pave their own way. Pia ends up inheriting her friend's frozen embryols and decides to have the children. Ramon is looking for a home where he can help people. Not only do they meet and click, but they love the town, the people, and want to help ... Of course there is much more than that goi...more
I didn't have the hate for this book that I had for the last one, but there were still things that bugged me. I swear if I hear one more time how the town takes care of their own I will scream!! With the last book they proved that they don't, or if they do it is only for those that they think deserve it.
I liked how Pia is basically crazy in this book, it really works for her. For most of the book she is like a deer in headlights, reacting to things instead of thinking them through. I did love ho...more

Another great series by Susan Mallery. Finding perfect is my favorite book in this series. Thanks to Susan Mallery I now have a dream of living in a small town. I am ready to pack my bags and head on over to Fool's Gold.
In Finding Perfect you learn about the towns former bad girl Pia and her past. You meet Raoul, a football player who moves to Fool's Gold to start over. When Pia and Raoul cross paths immediately there is chemistry between the two. They both have a past and are both trying to no...more

This book really really hit home with me. I know why for some portions, but not for others. It made me laugh and cry. I loved Pia before, but she really came to life in this one. I hope she is just as involved in future books, because otherwise I will miss her.

This book is the third in the Fool's Gold series and it features Pia who is the events coordinator for the town of Fool's Gold. She is very upset at the beginning of the book when she finds out that her best friend Crystal who recently died left her frozen embryos to her. Pia doesn't know what do about this and is feeling very out of sorts when she walks into a meeting with football star Raoul (this is the same character from The Bakery Sisters series. Raoul is the high school football player th...more
Since reading Chasing Perfect, I've been quite excited to read more about Pia O'Brian. She's a bit neurotic, but I like that about her. I found her ongoing worry over her relationship with Jake the cat to be pretty hilarious, but there also seemed to be a lot of sadness in Pia's life, which is understandable given the recent loss of her best friend.

think Susan Mallery outdid herself Finding Perfect! Finding Perfect is my favorite of the three, mostly because I feel like I relate to Pia the most. More in regards to attitude and how she deals with situations at hand. But ill say this, I wouldn't think twice if a hunky millionaire tells me he wants to take care of ME! Ill be all for it!

AMAZING! I LOVED Pia's character! She is something awesome. She is another character who doesn't know ever worth, she is blown away by the idea of having three frozen embryos. Why her, why couldn't she get the cat. She doesn't realize how much her friends choice was the right one. Especially when you add Raol, god how amazing he is. These two were brought together by some kind of force, and I knew they'd both be doomed but of course they think it will just be fun. No feelings? Does that ever rea...more
I picked up FINDING PERFECT at my library only because I follow Susan Mallery on Twitter and I love her tweets. I had never read a book by her before and I was under the impression that she wrote woman’s fiction. She doesn’t. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I actually liked FINDING PERFECT because to be honest I didn’t think I would. I have picked up many books from authors I tweet with and umm . . . just can’t get into their writing. That wasn’t the case with Ms. Mallery.

I really liked this romance despite some serious suspension of disbelief issues. And a whole lot of WTH when it comes to our heroine's decision making processes.
Fool's Gold is eerily similar to Nevada City, California. Cute mountain town in the foothills above Sacramento. We see a lot more of the people from the community in this book, but less of the setting--which makes sense for the last book in the trilogy.

Susan Mallery’s Fool’s Golds books are shaping up to be my favorite Mallery series since the Buchanans. Finding Perfect, the third book in the series, focuses on characters introduced earlier in the series, Pia O’Brian, planner of Fool’s Gold’s year-round schedule of festivals, and Raoul Moreno, former Dallas football star and new resident of Fool’s Gold. Raoul connects this series to an earlier Mallery series, specifically Sweet Spot, the second of the Keyes sisters books. I loved seeing Raoul...more
I think I liked this one the best so far. Pia has been one of my favorite characters since she is so alive and fun and no-nonsense. She gets a surprise from her friend that died and the choices she has to make will change the course of her entire life. Going into the decision alone she finds a friend in Raoul-the new ex-football player resident of Fool's Gold. He wants to be her pregnancy buddy and help her though this tough stage in her life. Sher realizes she wants more and sees that Raoul pro...more
I wasn't sure what to think going into this story. I could see what was coming a mile away and didn't know how to feel about it. The idea of someone leaving their frozen embryos to another person is mind boggling. Especially when that person does it without telling anyone, namely the person who's inheriting them.
That was my main issue with this book. Crystal didn't win me over by dropping that on Pia without thought or consideration. Having a baby is a huge thing. Asking someone else to carry a...more

A fascinating book although I wondered about the research concerning the implantation of embryos. I don't know much about it but it seems unlikely that more than one embryo would be implanted at a time. If it didn't take, try, try again. Three times. Is this not the way it's done? It just makes logical sense to me. On the other hand the rest of the book was intriguing and fun although I never really got a sense of who Pia is as a person, oddly enough. She spent all her time worrying about being...more

Mehhhhhh. I know these type of books are supposed to be silly and fluffy, but this one really bugged me. Maybe it's because of the absolutely insane idea that someone would leave her friend her EMBRYOS in her will. Seriously? And so I decided to keep reading, just to see if there was more beyond that silly premise. Well, then she has them implanted in her, she's pregnant, and nary a bit of morning sickness til well past her first couple months of pregnancy?! I was sick and feeling terrible with...more
