so, um, why is she just outright murdering folks? why is she suddenly so raging angry? how did she become so good with a gun? huh? what? why? character development, please. i love the setting. seeing new orleans just before, during and just after the hurricane was eerie. i greatly disliked the jumping around in time. it was jarring and unnecessary. it made me suspect that the plot was thin (thus all the time acrobats). i turned out to be right. :-/. also for a burn victim she seemed pretty ...more

I read the free download of this on my iPhone and thought I’d go ahead and buy the book which I read tonight very quickly at work and was disappointed in the end. Although the artwork is alright, all in all it’s fairly amateur writing. Comparing this to Punisher as the reviewers on the cover have is a bit of a sham. Nola is only similar to Punisher in that she is seeking revenge for whatever it was that happened to her, but without it actually being cool. They also attempted to do the whole back ...more

Set during Hurrican Katrina, this graphic novel tells the story of Nola and her desire to get revenge on all those that did her wrong. It is an interesting concept, but I felt the character just did the things for violence sake and not revenge. I never really connected to her or why she did all the things she did. I can understand a woman scorned, but this book took it to an too extreme level in my opinion.

What happened in New Orleans during and after Hurricane Katrina was a definite tragedy in the history of our country. And yet, I'm kinda tired of hearing about it. Whenever I see a book or story that uses hurricane Katrina as a setting or plot device, I'm most likely to think meh, and pass it by. However, I rather enjoyed the story presented in this graphic novel. Katrina and its aftereffects are a backdrop to the story, but aren't really an integral part of the story - well, part of what ...more

The art was pretty good but honestly the storyline didn't do a lot for me. I actually disliked the main character, Nola. She has an affair with a married man, thinks he's going to leave his wife, then gets pissed off when he doesn't intend to. She causes a wreck and he takes the chance to get rid of her. But she survives and then hunts him down, along the way finding some kind of deeper plot involving her dead father. Along the way she seems to kill people pretty much at random. She's also ...more

I'd rate this higher because it has good artwork....but I just don't like the revenge aspect of it. I also didn't care for the whole "Your act of violence justifies my act of violence". Too much mixing of themes too..

Jilted lover, murdered father, Katrina victim/survivor, death of mother, conspiracy and vengeance all in such a short volume....by a severely burnt woman who gets the tar beaten out of her on more than one occasion with no previously known gun/karate skills? Just a little too much t

I loved the sociopolitical context, loved the concept of a black woman anti hero who is unapologetic about her understandable rage, but thought the characters descent into the revenge mindset shod have been further developed.
