I really enjoyed this book!! It takes you back in time to the US during WWII so easily. This book showed what Americans were experiencing during this time of I have little personal knowledge. The writing was so descriptive that could literally smell the Jersey shore and picture the scenes so well. It combines a love story, with murders and the characters are very well developed. You feel their pain and their love. I would highly recommend this book and will keep it to read again

This is not an ordinary detective story. Combining ethereal, poetic memoirs with gritty scenes of murder, war, and sex, it is sometimes hard to follow. I was frustrated when unable to penetrate the layers of language to determine what was actually going on. All the answers are revealed in the end, but the writing style abruptly shifts at that point. Overall, I think the book is uneven, but intriguing enough to be worth a read.

I had a little trouble getting into this book. It was a good story, and the author did a great job of describing the beach and the characters however I didn't feel a connection between the 2 main characters until about 3/4 of the way through the book.

It was written different in where there were short chapters that kind of left you hanging until later in the book. Sometimes I got lost and had to think about what was going on.

Overall it was a good read.

The book was written like a cheap detective novel however held my attention. About the middle of the book is where I jumped to the end to confirm who I thought done it!
