Beck is not a good kid he gets into alot of trouble. One day beck goes into a shed that the school owns with his friend kate. He knows there is a big ball in there well thats what he thinks it ended up being a weather baloon but he learned that the hard way he pushed the button to blow it up and the whole shed blew up they were both seriously injured. He had to go to the hospital after that when they were in the hospital a man came who looked really old and white he was in robes too. The man sai More...

Have you ever really known you shouldn’t do something—I mean really really known it in your mind—then you do it anyway and it just somehow seems not as bad as everyone made it out to be? Then it turns on you and it ends up being much worse than everyone made it out to be? If you even understood any of that, congratulations. And if you’ve ever felt that way, then you can empathize with Beck in this sequel to ‘Pillage’. He is still battling his way through the confusing (and now brutal) plants More...

It has been several months since his first dragon fiasco, but Beck is still getting into trouble. His latest escapade puts him in the hospital. While he is recuperating a strange man shows up and tells him that he must find the last dragon egg and hatch it, otherwise the dirt will be angry. When one of the plants in his room attacks him, Beck is inclined to believe the strange old man. So Beck sets out to find the egg and stop whatever strange new things are going on. Of course, he will get More...

In this story Beck starts off (as in the last book) getting into trouble. Then in the hospital he meets a strange old man who tells him that he must find the dragon stone and plant it or terrible things will happen. Beck and Kate find the stone and a beauitful queen dragon is born, whom they affectionately call Lizzy. Apparently, though, they did not learn anything from the their last encounter with dragons.

While Beck can be funny at times, his personality was a little too over the t More...

Okay, granted it's been 3 years since I read the first book... that said, I wasn't too impressed with this. The story itself was a lot of fun, but the writing style and the main character bothered me. I felt like Obert Skye could have used a better editor (general editor as well as copy-editor) to clean up some of the writing.

As far as the main character goes, usually I like overt and sarcastic narrators, but this kid was supposed to be 16 and he seemed more like 13 the whole time. May More...

I may be the only one who just doesn't get Orbert Skye. I feel bad because every time he publishes something, I read it. But I just can't get into it. For some reason, I just don't relate to his writing or characters or something. That makes me sad. He's clearly a very creative writer and I find the ideas behind his books intriguing.

I will say that the ending did shock me--totally didn't see it coming. And I was interested in the conflict of Beck--indulging something he knew More...

Some have said this sequel to Pillage is too similar to book 1. It was long enough a wait, with enough other books in between, though, for me to not notice that. I enjoyed Choke just as much as Pillage.

I really like Beck, which surprises me because I am usually annoyed by the hero in YA lit who always does what he shouldn't and unleashes all kinds of terror and trouble in the process. Beck, though, I like. He's likable and his impossible home/family situation does lend some sympathy to More...

I won a copy of Pillage from First Reads, and the author was nice enough to send me a copy of book 2, as well! Thanks, Obert Skye! You rock.

Beck hatches the last dragon stone, which contains a queen dragon. He is supposed to slay the dragon at birth, but decides to try to raise it on his own. Although the plot felt slightly thin at points (we didn't find out why the book is called Choke until the last 30 pages or so), I still liked it. I've been forced to choke down several clas More...

Have you ever herd of a queen dragon? If not, this book would definitely be interesting for you. I thought this book was pretty good and I think you would enjoy it too. It is a sequel to its previously popular book "Pillage." I liked this book because it is very intense and has challenges, its setting takes place in really cool places, and it teaches you about a queen dragon.

This book is very intense for many reasons and it has challenges through out the book. Fir More...

This is the squeal to Pillage. The beginning was a bit slow and the one draw back is there seems to be a lot of similarities to Pillage. After all the trouble from the dragons in the first time around is Beck really going to try and hatch another dragon? I keep thinking at 16 I hope Beck will strive to be less mischievous and try and find a way to help him become a better adult. He has been raised with a family with a unsettling past. Hopefully before the end of the third book he will find a More...

This book is a sequal to the book called Pillage. This series really surprised me. I thought it was going to be some cheesy book about dragons, but that was not the case at all. This book was actually really cool. It is about a boy named Beck Phillips. He has been living in a new house with his dad. It is not just a house though, it's a mansion. It is also full of secret rooms and surprises. He is just going through the motions during school. He and his best friend Kate have nothing really to do More...

First of all, I recommend this book to anyone who has dillengce (because it takes a while to get started), loves sarcasm, and loves a great plot.

As much as I hate it, I must start with the bad part and get it out of the way. There is only one reason that I cannot give this book five stars. It took Obert Skye roughly, give or take a few pages, 170 pages to get the book started. I wish I had finished this book earlier than
I did but the first half of the book was barely enough to More...

Okay, as much as I love Obert Skye, I don't love this series. Sure, the first book was good, but this was just like a total repeat, but with only one dragon! And there's going to be a third one? About what?! Lemme guess, another dragon perchance? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE dragons! but with this series, they just fall a little flat. If you ask me, Obert Skye should focus more on the Leven Thumps sequel series. I MUST know what happens to Geth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Won this as a First Reads giveaway.

Before I get to the story, I think the coolest thing about this book was the use of titles of songs (or variations on those titles) as chapter titles (Don't Lose Your Head, I'm Going Slightly Mad, Another Bites The Dust, The White Queen, etc.). Considering this is about a queen dragon, it just seems to make sense :)

That said, I actually liked this better than Pillage. Perhaps it was not having to delve through all the character developm More...

Storyline predictable. Same story over and over again.
Kids will like, but it really is just a formula that has been used over and over.
A Queen dragon hatches. Beck loves her and takes care of her until she begins to pillage. In the end, he has to kill her and she leaves another dragon stone, this time it will be the "King", just to keep the story going on forever.

I love how clean Juvenile fiction is, but sometimes I wish the characters didn't have to be so juvenile. I wish I could find an author who wrote fantasy for adults but with the "adult content" of a JF book. That said, the book was a fun easy read. My only gripe was that the "hero" would keep doing stupid things he knew would get him in trouble.

I LOVE Obert Skye. He is the only author I read that can make me laugh out loud. He is hilarious, and I love his writing. I especially love the Leven Thumps books. I gave this one a lower rating, however, because I didn't like the ending. And there were some gaping holes and unanswered questions. But it is fun to read for a good laugh.

I’d say I probably enjoyed this book as much as the first. The story is exciting fun and a lot of it’s fairly amusing, with some laugh-out-loud conversations between Beck and Van, Kate, and Wyatt. Beck does make me laugh--even when he’s making really bad decisions. Which leads me to my main issue with the book: Beck’s behavior often seems really immature and stupid for a 16-year-old. I guess he’s learning and he was often led astray and somewhat manipulated, but he’s still responsible for s More...

This was a great sequel to Pillage! I love the way this author writes! This is really the way teenagers think and act. Some book are so unrealistic when it comes to teens and the way the act and talk, this author nails it. I love the adventure you get to go on reading these books you just never know what this boy is going to do.

I was pretty stoked to read the sequel to pillage since I had just reread the first book. But the first book was a lot better. The ending of course leads to a third book which I will still read as Beck is one of my favorite characters--funny, smart, and brave with an unquenchable spirit of adventure.

Another fascinatingly weird book. I love the description of the dragon and the house. Beck's inability to communicate with adults and his complacency in some areas is a bit irritating. Otherwise it is a good book and I stayed up most of the night to finish it.

book 2 about the pillage dragons - fun for young teens (probably boys).
I enjoyed the first book, but in this one, the main character started to annoy me a little bit - probably because he's going through his teen sarcasm/disrespect. But he got better at the end.

I was a bit frustrated that the main character doesn't seem to have learned ANYTHING from the first book. But it was still a fun read, and there were a few things that took me completely by surprise. The author left himself open for another book, so it will be interesting to see if he can improve his characters.

I loved this book even more than the first one! It was great! Its not really the dragons I love but the dragons and the plants combined make an irresistable pair. Also there is a crazy stufffed animal giving reporter and I creepy looking fellow that Beck names whitey. Not to mention all the fun secret passages that they find in this book. It makes me really want a cool old house to live in.

soooo much better than Pillage. If you read pillage and thought it was boring so you don't have any desire to read Choke, I am telling you to forget that and just go ahead and read Choke. It is a lot more exiting all the way through than Pillage! I recommend it

Choke is the sequel to Pillage and continues the adventures of Beck and his life at his father's mansion in the town of Kingsplot.

The storyline wasn't as gripping or as fun as the first book in the series and although it has a surprise ending I didn't much care for the twist. I'll reserve judgment though because Skye may be leading up to something bigger and better in the third installment.

Another quick and light read but not as entertaining as its predecessor.

Great sequel. Left it open for a third. Beck is a fun character. Sometimes I would like to slap his smart mouth, but I like his humor. Was surprised at the end again. A little slow in the beginning for me though, but it picked up, and I really enjoyed it. Really enjoy the author's humor. Especially on page 221 when there was a disturbance in the force. :)
