Oct 19, 2010 Nic rated it 4 of 5 stars Recommends it for: People looking for a light, fun & quick PNR read
"I may have been dead for the past hundred and fifty years, Susannah," Jesse said, "but that doesn't mean I don't know how people say good night. And generally, when people say good night, they keep their tongues to themselves."

This books was loads of fun. It kept me entertained with it’s witty characters, action packed plot and a budding romance.

The plot was fast paced and well written. It was a little bit predictable, so I thought. But Cabot through in a few unexpected surprises.

Suze is a...more

I got until page 152 before I decided to shut the book.
It is fast-paced and action-packed but I am not sure whether it is because the young-at-heart that is in me is dying and i am entering middle age or because this book is channeling Buffy The Vampire Slayer so much that i just find it plain boring. Needless to say I hope it is the second option.

Suze is a ghost slayer rather than vampire but since ghost can't die she is the one who sends them on their way, therefore a mediator. The nerdy fri...more

Love You To Death: The first book was great, Suze is a great character and the kind of really strong girl who I like to read about. She isn't a blonde 'girly' girl which I really hate reading about. The story is great and I love the ghost of Heather and also Father Dom and Adam and Cee Cee.
The only character I really dont like is Jesse. Just something about him that really, really irritates me!! Its like what kind of a pervy ghost just floats around in a teenage girls bedroom? You'd think once...more

This is Meg Cabot's first book I read. I bought it because it seems an enjoyable book - and it's been.

The story is simple - it's not a big story or a big mystery, it's just what it seems. The characters aren't remarkable - the main character is Suze, and the others are there just to accompany her. I've liked her more in the second book.

So, as I had said, it's an enjoyable book. I hope the others are better...

Review from my blog The Word Fiend.

Personally I love those gems you find when you stumble across a book that looks interesting and decide to give it a chance. While browsing the shelves of one of my local bookshops Love You to Death & High Stakes caught my eye and boy am I glad I decided to take a chance on it. This is definitely one of my gems.

The cover design for Love You to Death & High Stakes is quite simple, but the model’s piercing green eye and no-nonsense expression draw you in a...more

Suze is no ordinary teenager. Oh sure, her mom has remarried and moved her daughter from New York to Northern California to be with her new family. And yes, her new family has three step-brothers, a dog and an overly enthusiastic step-father to cope with. And she has been enrolled her in a catholic school with a dress code. But all of that is nothing compared with the fact that Suze can talk to the dead.

Turns out Suze is a mediator, one who is fated to help the dead transition between life and...more

This is my ALL TIME favorite series,
and I won't try to describe how awesome it is,
and believe me, I would know exactly how awesome... I've read each book about 7 or 8 times. And more to come.

I would like to give 3.5 stars to this book. This book is actually two books in one, book one would get 3 stars and book two 4 stars. I really looked forward to reading this book. I haven't read that many books about ghosts, so I was really looking forward to it. I like this book and story, but I just don't like the beginning. The book begins whenn the lead character Suze is moving from New York to California. In the beginning it is really slow, with many details that aren't really necessary to...more

If you like the light adventure-thriller, this book is definitely good for you. Well, I could guess all twisted mysteries inside and I didn't feel so surprised when all the cards were opened. But like I said, this book is a light adventure-thriller-mystery-whatever.
But...
Susannah rocks!! She become one of my favorite heroine with her kick-ghost-butt styles. She was tough, stubborn, and also mean sometimes. But I like her.
Other characters only get small portion in the book. But there are not much...more

I am going to review this series altogether rather than book by book.

The Mediator series is about Susannah Simon (Suze as she likes to be called), a sixteen year old girl who is a mediator, which means she can see and speak to the dead. She helps them with any unfinished business they have on earth so that they can pass on, and sometimes she has to kick ghost butt.

The story starts with Suze moving from New York to California to live with her mother's new husband Andy and his three sons, David,...more

I consumed the first book in this little duo in a single sitting. Love You To Death has a strong heroine, with a slightly snarky attitude to life. The hero, Jesse, is rather sweet and enigmatic, even if all he really does is lurk in Susannah's bedroom for most of the book. I got the feeling that this book was for slightly younger young adults than some other similar novels - though the author does not dumb down the vocabulary. I think I might have to check 'self-abnegation' myself! I didn't find...more

this book has the first two stories of the series. i read the first a while ago and now just read the second one. i remember really liking the first one and thought the second was just awesome! i loved all the action and the main character is one of my favorite girl characters because of her toughness and attitude that dosent annoy you like a lot of other girl characters do most of the time. i think i enjoyed the second better even though it's been a while from reading the first book to really d...more

This book is 4.5 Stars (with a leaning toward 5 stars).

I really liked this book. The writing was good. The characterization for Susannah (the main character) is really good with her kick-ass attitude.

Since there are 2 books in the one I will give 2 different reviews.

Shadowland
Susannah has just moved to northern California from New York City. She is not excited about her new house or her new school which are both really old buildings because she is can see, hear and talk to ghosts. When she gets...more

Now see, this is why I recommend older YA to everyone.

Love You to Death and High Stakes were both great stories. There’s not much else to say about them, other than I was pleasantly surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed both of them and I’ll definitely be reading the sequels. And then I’m gonna read some more older YA because they’re obviously way better than the horseshit that’s currently being written. I could eat an entire bowl of alphabet soup and shit better stories than that.

I first read "Love You To Death" in 2004. It was one of the first Fantasy novels ever for me and is one of my favourites until today! I read all six books at least once a year and I guess I should not review them at all, because all I will be doing is swooning and gushing over how great these books are. I truly love the Mediator-books. I even had to replace mine with new copies because they were so tattered from reading. I´m going to try reviewing them anyway, but please don´t expect me to give...more

TBR Reduce Challenge #2- 2011 (Jess)

For the oddest reason I've always struggled with Meg Cabot books. She's obviously a skilled writer but something about her style annoys me that I can't seem to shake, so I was surprised that I really enjoyed this one!

Love You to Death & High Stakes were both really great fun books. I enjoyed the supernatural concept and adored the characters. Suze, Jesse, Father Dom and even the brothers Doc, Dopey and Sleepy were pretty cool.
The whole concept kinda remind...more

Suze has just moved to California, and transferred into a new school there. Her first day is a little different than she imagined though when a nasty spirit decides to try and scare Suze away from the school, but Suze has dealt with ghosts like this before, and isn't afraid to show it who's boss...

This book was mainly about introducing us to the cast of characters, many of which are pretty loveable. I really liked the ghost mediating aspect of it and thought that it was something interesting to...more

Or 7/10. Just what I needed: light, fluffy, smart and good fun. A couple of plot holes and so like Buffy the Vampire Slayer in several ways (the Watcher type character, the Scoobie Gang, the school setting, the hot dead love interest) but all in all very well executed. Interesting to read it 12 years after publication and note the changes in teen culture - its commented as unusual that 4 people in a group have a mobile phone, now they would be ubiquitous. Also, internet usage was obviously a new...more

I am rating it 5 stars because I totally love the book. It's just so awesome.Jesee is this amazing guy whom you can't resist loving.Although he is old fashioned but what more can we expect from someone who's been dead for 150 years. He is so caring and protecting.Suze is also great. I like her character she is strong and wants to do things her way but she always puts herself in danger and Jesse ends up saving her. Bottom line is that i will definately end up rereading it.

i enjoyed these two books (the titles are different because i bought this series in the UK)
i liked meg cabot's princess diaries series and though i have tried her adult books, i have to say i enjoy her YA books more. (perhaps because her female characters in her adult books closely resemble whiny teenage girls- a little grating for me) but in the YA category, her novels are fun, funny and easy to read.
while i am not as into them as her princess diaries series, it's still a quick fun read, 200 p...more

I don't like this series as much as I liked (loved) the Vanished series. That being said, Suze is a really great protagonist, and you can feel the worry piling up when she has to come up with excuses for her bizarre behaviour (which really can only be explained by saying she's a mediator). Jesse's also great, and makes me wish I had a Jesse of my very own (alive, of course).

Meg Cabot does a phenomenal job of writing about the supernatural, while keeping both feet firmly planted in the "real worl...more

Susanna is one of my favourite female characters, if not my number one favourite character. I always enjoy books more when the female roles are badass and strong willed (I have some feminist traits) and Susanna is definatley both of these. It even had the whole forbidden love thing going on which is always a bonus.
And even though I've never been much of a Meg Cabot fan, I absolutley adore these two stories.

This book is the first book and second book of the Mediator Series! I love this book because the plot is good and it really appeals to teenage girls since there is a mix of romance, mystery and ghost. I read it many times and I'm never bored by it.
Suze Simon can see dead people and she helps them make their way to the underworld. Only a few people can do so and they're called mediators. When Suze moved to California, she was hoping to escape from the ghosts and take a little break when there's...more

Love you to Death and High Stakes, a two part 200 page novel by Meg Cabot, was a book set that I very much enjoyed. Like many other of Meg Cabot’s books, I enjoyed this one very much. Her strong development of characters is elemental to the appeal of the novel. She tackles subjects, whom many other authors would give negative connotations to, and gives them positive light. For example, this book is about a girl who can speak to the dead, but instead of that being a bad thing, she turns it into a...more

Another good YA duo. Shadowland introduces us to Suze, the mediator, headed to a new school, in a new place, with her mom and new step-dad and step-brothers. Ninth Key continues the story, both taking place over the course of just a few weeks. I'll be reading more Meg Cabot soon.

There's a guy in Suze's bedroom. Too bad he's a ghost.

Suze is a mediator and she sees dead people.
And they won't leave her alone until she helps them resolve their unfinished business with the living.
But Jesse, the ghost haunting her bedroom, doesn't seem to need her help.
Which is a relief, because Suze has just moved to sunny California and plans to start fresh, with trips to the mall instead of the cemetery, and surfing instead of spectral visitations.
But the very first day at her new scho...more

I actually reelly enjoyd this. Though i think the first one was better than the second. I liked most of the characters (apart from Tad :P) Jesse was awesome... I love how Suze is really tough and sarcastic all the time too. I am defnitaly reading the next book!

in the first story 'love you to death' Meg Cabot introduces the main character,Susannah Simon, really well. all the books, from what i can tell, are going to be exciting and adventurous. the story is made even better because they are all written from Suze's point of view.

Librarian note: AKA Jenny Carroll (1-800-Where-R-You series), AKA Patricia Cabot (historical romance novels).

Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse -- at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flun...more
