I heard this book was a "straight" book so I had to read it. An easy & quick read. Harris does a fabulous job developing characters, establishing relationships, keeping true to 'drama' & secrets. The story deals with the relationship & bond of a mother and son, Brady & Carmyn. I was surprised to see their relationship resembled my mom & brother. Why is it boys are so close to their mothers and daughters close to their fathers? Well that relationship is torn by the 'supposed' love

This book was so highly anticipated by E. Lynn Harris fans such as myself.I must say I am extremely disappointed. I'm not impressed by this book at all.I knew exactly what was going to happen before it happened. His last one I Say a Little Prayer, I didn't even force myself to finish because it was so boring.I hope he does better or else I'm going to have to give up on him like I did Omar Tyree. Let's just say I'm glad this was a library book...smh

A fan of the late and great Mr. Harris works, I thought I had read everything this man had ever writen. That was until last week I got a hold of this one. The minute I opened it, I was pulled in immediately. Just too good to be true is a real page turner.
In this book skeletons were flying from everyone's closet. From Brady Bledsoes mother Carmnen changing her name to Delmar, Brady's best friend not revealing what he's doing on his part time job to make large amounts of money, More...

2 Stars or 3 Stars, that is the question. I bought this book the DAY before E. Lynn Harris passed away and that made me want to read it even more. I wish I could give this book a great review but I just can't. I was so disappointed. I thought this book would awesome based on the first couple of chapters but nope. The only reason I continued to read on was because I don't like starting something and not finishing it plus I was waiting for all of the secrets to come out. Granted, this book was a q

This book explores the world of college and sometimes hits on professional athletics. More specifically it looks at one young man and his life in the world of college football. It also looks into a sordid past that he has no idea about, but discovers the whole truth by the end of the book. It is an okay read. There were parts that I couldn't put it down and there were other parts that I wanted to just skip over. What I learned from this book is that that some women and some men are just plain na

I thought this was a good book, good story but...either it moved too fast, or it had too many subplots to address any of them fully.
Honestly this could have been several different books, or perhaps a series. What about the Godfather? What's really going on with Delmar? What's the deal with Carmyn and Sylvester? And, what is going on with that hot mess Maybelline?
Characters float in and "do stuff" with no real explanatiion, and problems dissolve in a blink of an eye.

Yes, it's complete Jackie Collins trash, poorly written, trite, etc. But I liked it. I'm so ashamed.

I'm a huge E. Lynn Harris fan, but this book just was a hit and miss in my opinion. From a fiction standpoint and literary analysis (I'm an English major) the characters just felt completely flat and not dimensional. I felt as though the story just rushed by so quickly and the characters didn't have much legitimate backstory that could captivate the readers. It just felt sort of blah at moments, then the low moments were made up for with steamy sexy segments; but that isn't enough to propel a bo

Although I live in the south, and Roll Tide and Tiger(Alabama and Auburn respectively) fever reign supreme here in Alabama, I can somehow relate to the sports theme of this novel. But what I could get with is the mother/son relationship of this novel. Carmyn was in a terrible predicament. She got cut off from all she was familiar with. Yet, she moved on and had a son, started a business, expanded it into two businesses, and make a good living. That is what I call making lemonade outta lemons, wh

I am a very big E. Lynn Harris fan, so when I heard this book was coming out, I was excited. I was hoping to read about Basil and Raymond, my two favorite characters from Harris' novels. I cheated and flipped through the pages only to find that Basil was only in a few chapters and Raymond was nowhere to be found. Also, there were no major gay characters with issues and drama. So, I was disappointed.
However, as I read, I began to relate to Brady and all of the charaters that did sppea More...

E. Lynn is back and he has written another great book. This time around he focuses on a college athlete who is on the right path, being a stand up man, dedicated son, and good man. He is destined to become the next big star and like all major players, the scouts are out. One in particular is willing to do anything it takes to get Brady, legally or illegally. There are other subplots that play into the development such as Brady's mothers' past and a mother who comes back just to get rich, among o

I LOVED this book. It was full of terrific African American dialog and a totally hip story about a college football player about to turn pro and a gold diggin ho (literally) set out to hijack his career for her no-good pimp agent. The characters were real and current and the motivations and perspective so clear I was cheering for everyone and there was just enough raunch to make it juicy. My first E. Lynn Harris novel. I'd definitely read another. He's the bomb diggity.

Just Too Good To Be True was another enjoyable read by the late E. Lynn Harris. The story is about a teenage mother who is disowned by her parents when she refuses to give-up her baby. Fast-forward twenty years and the baby is now a leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy and a shoe-in for a first round draft pick.

this book is about a boy named Brady Bledsoe. brady is about to go places. He is a senior in college, a superstar on the football field and a contender for the Heisman Trophy with a likely future in the NFL. He is also a practicing Christian and belongs to a group called "Saving Ourselves" for those who are remaining celibate until they marry. His relationship with his mother Carmyn --- who is single and a very successful businesswoman. Then along comes Barrett, a beautiful woman wh

It's another E. Lynn Harris book--familiar characters, familiar plot line...good and bad are always starkly drawn just so no one gets too confused. It's been several years since I've read one of Harris's book so I enjoyed dipping into this one. But his novels are formulaic--if you like the formula, you will like the novel. It's a good read for a wintry afternoon or a quiet Friday night when you want something that won't tax the brain too much.

Brady Bledsoe is the college son of Carmyn Bledsoe. She owns a beauty shop and runs another exclusive one. Brady is in college and a potential for #1 draft pick. An agent sends a woman to befriend him. She seduces him and gets him to sign a exclusive agreement with the agent's company. But the agent double crosses her and she tells on the agent getting Brady out of the contract.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were very interesting. The plot was clever. E. Lynn really knew how to keep his readers engaged into a book. He really knew his community. He put a twist to this book in that Barrett's role was trifling, risky, and almost unbelievable. Great Read as always!!!

This was my first E. Lynn book. I was so not interested in the alternative lifestyles series. I really tried not to like this one too, and it had a rough start for me. But by the end of the book I had to give it up. Good and easy read.

At the most basic review a man is seduced and doubled crossed into signing a contract that otherwise he would not have. The woman who double crosses him eventually tells what she did because she is doublecrossed

This was a really good quick read not E.Lynn's normal storyline but entertaining. I've read all of his books and they're all great. This had a differnet feel but there were some familiar past characters

It ended much better than it started. I judge a book by how quickly I read it. I usually get through a really good book in a few hours, not being able to put it down. I was able to put this one down for a few days.
The storyline was good though.

The first one I've read by this popular black author and I'm impressed. Great character development, well developed (albeit predictable) story about romance, sex, families and character.

I didn't think that this one was quite up to his usual standards of off the chain/over the back fence gossip greatness, but there is no question -- it is definitely juicy!

I liked this book. It's the first I've read by E. Lynn Harris and I enjoyed it. Of course I cried at the end. I'm a mother and I hope to share that same bond with my kid.

i read this book over a period of a month. It was entertaining to say the least. I liked Brady he is a good kid. The book was kind of predictable but it was an ok read.

Just finish this book and it was pretty good!
Started off kind of slow but it didn't take long for me to start getting interested.
First book I read by this author, but it won't be the last.
