Danger Close is a candid commander's point of view of 3 Para's deployment in Afghanistan in the early phases of the British commitment. This is an entirely subjective account, so don't expect insight into the great game - but do expect a rare insight into the relationship between a commander and his men, in the dirt among the sangars under rocket and mortar fire. The loneliness at the top comes through very clearly.

This memoir from the commander of 3 PARA, the 3rd Battalion of The Parachute Regiment, details his experiences in Afghanistan during their tour of duty there in 2006, and their eventual return to the UK and his subsequent promotion up and away from 3 PARA. This is a gripping account from a battle group commander of actual combat in Afghanistan. Written well it gives you a insight into what its like to face and battle the Taliban. Fascinating.
