This book is a fairly stinging critique of then-current fashions. One of its contentions is that fashion designers take perverse pleasure in causing pain to their clients, and that current designs were not only sadistic but wasteful.

It might seem that fashions have changed sufficiently that this book would be dated: not noticeably. The elements Rudofsky critizes have remained fairly constant, truth be told.
