The Hardy Boys do it again! This time their crime-ridden town is afflicted by smugglers... or hobos... or drunken boat pilots. Something like that. Their good friends The Fat Kid and The Non-Italian Kid are kidnapped. Gorilla, magician, skeleton, and crazy hermit costumes are involved, as well as some light bondage, bum fights, and very expensive Japanese radios. Frank and Joe, who I believe may be the same person, ala Fight Club, stop a nationwide crime wave by putting their heads together and...more

This is when the Hardy Boys series started to jump the shark. How much money does the Hardy family have? They own multiple motorcycles, at least two cars, a boat, all manner of bicycles and a Geiger counter. They have a private charter pilot (Jack Wayne) to fly them around at will. They have a crime lab in their garage. Fenton Hardy is world-renowned. The Hardy Boys are also brilliant students, star football players, and the two most attractive kids in high school. They get knocked out with a br...more

They are unable to give chase because of a damaged steering mechanism on boat, and the boys end up going around in circles. It turns out that the boat that nearly rammed them had a purpose for doing so, but the reason why is not revealed until the end of the book.Soon after, the boys prepare to go to Callie Shaw's costume party. They inadvertently stumble upon another part of the rapidly unraveling mystery as they see some unknown men in Mr. French's Costume Shop, who appear to threaten him.Ret...more

I thought it was intresting, first in the book they go to a party with masks, uh oh scary, and they go home and get a phone call that there friends are missing. So they go looking for them, they go on their boat which is called the sleuth. They have to dress up as homless people to get information and they almost get into fights. Then they get figure out that they were kiddnapped and mistaken for the hardy boys, so frank and joe decide to get kiddnapped to find their friends. But frank and joe a...more

Mystery, Suspense, Adventure *****

Franklin W. Dixon's Hardy Boys books are appealing to a lot of young people, because Frank and Joe are always on some sleuthing mission. They look for trouble and find it. I like that Frank and Joe's parents are present in the book but don't play a very large role. Their father always entrusts cases to his boys, lending them great responsibility. I really enjoy getting deeply involved in their Hardy Boys' missions. This book is filled with boat chases, mysteriou...more

Boys, boys, boys...you have so many incidents with your motor boat it's a wonder your permits to drive that thing hasn't been revoked. Has anyone thought to tell the coast guard to check their records of how many times you've been at sea, swamped, lost, stolen, misguided, mishapped (is that a word) and otherwise incapacitated in the Sleuth? Oh my...

On the other hand we have a gripping story of missing friends. Lost? Drowned? Kidnapped? No one knows, only that Chet and Biff are gone. Why aren't w...more

I read the 1928 version. I only read the original version of Hardy Boy books - the revised ones are bullshit!

This is a great one. A couple of the Hardys' friends get kidnapped because the bad guys think they are the Hardys!

This brilliant criminal mastermind is named Baldy Turk. There's an island called "Blacksnake Island" and on the island there is a cave! This is a good one.

Seperti biasa. Kasusnya nggak rumit2 amat. Petualangannya lumayan seru. Tapi banyak sekali plot hole, dan interaksi antar karakter yang datar seperti robot, nggak bernyawa sama sekali. Mungkin karena jumlah halaman terbatas yah (alasan ini lagi). Lumayan buat bacaan santai, jangan dibawa terlalu serius: just enjoy it if u can.

The classic boy detectives by Frank Dixon--I read ALL of them in my younger years, one I ran out of Nancy Drew books. The Hardy Boys, Frank and Joe, are brother amateur detectives, aspiring to follow in their father's footsteps.

I read these aloud to my son, who enjoys them. I don't know what I am missing, I find them a bit flat and redundant, and therefore predictable. Oh well. Still love reading with my son, that trumps plot and writing.

So far Christian says this is the best book he has ever read. It has a slower start than a lot of the books do these days, but it gets going and Christian loved to have me read it to him.

I have read most of this series over the years. These were the books that first got me interested in mysteries, and I've never read a book from this series that i haven't liked.

I didn't have access to many of the Hardy Boys mysteries when I was a kid but I liked the ones I read. I don't really remember much about this one.

I read the Hardy Boys books (and Nancy Drew) when I was a child. The stories are old fashioned, but that's why I like them so much.

My favorite part about this book is when Joe jumps off the boat and leaves some of his friends on the boat. I like it a lot.

We can understand why anyone would want to hang out with the Hardy Boys, after this. Must be the access to their boat.

Really, even when I was young and reading these all the time, no one used the word "chum." Except fishermen.

While Frank and Joe are heading to their friend Callie's party they hear on their radios that there was just a bank robbery. So after the party they decide to go and try to catch the bad guys and put them in jail. later on they find out that their two best friends (chums) have been kidnapped. I recommend this book to people who love a good mystery and even to people who love action. The Missing Chums by Franklin W. Dixon is in between action driven and character driven book you decide. I think...more
