One of the reasons one reads the manga for this story is it, like the original source novel, integrates the silly high school stuff with the hard science fiction. These were famously divided into two separate anime, Full Metal Panic and Fumoffu. The artist does a better job with the high school stuff than she did with the sci fi, and this volume has a great deal more in the former category. Thus it's a slightly better volume.
Shoji Gatoh (賀東 招二), born on July 11, 1971, is a Japanese author from Shiga Prefecture, Japan. He is best known for the creation of the Full Metal Panic! series that included light novels, manga and anime.
