I read this book in my Religious Studies senior seminar class. This book is an academic research on the Neo-pagan community, but its approach is more anthropological compare to the other books we read in class. I’m not a fan of anthropological research books, however, Pike did a great job giving us materials she had studied on this new religious movement. Harper Jean
This ethnography of U.S. pagan festivals in the '90s is surprisingly engrossing. It was especially interesting to compare Pike's observations with my own experiences with various (mostly not specifically pagan) festivals with a heavy pagan presence. Some of it definitely feels dated - for example, the shadow of the '80s/'90s satanic panic - but pretty much all of it is interesting.
