"Tough Skin is an invention of glittering grotesqueries. Part librarian, part Georges Bataille, part crazy old lady, these poems-stories-whatever-they-are will haunt you like a drunken uncle waiting for you in the bushes. They will stick to your brain like shadow. Dark, disgusting, gorgeous, hilarious: There is nothing like this book. Sarah Eaton is from the future"--Kathr...more

I think I can only review this by summarizing it.

Tough Skin is a book of poems, in the loosest sense, divided into three parts. Part I is a narrative, the thoughts of a mad scientist contemplating death as he talks to his 'offspring', a baby made of blood sewn into a skin suit. At least, that's how I interpreted it. This is definitely the strongest part of the book. Once I shifted my reading of it, from 'poetry' to 'journal entries', I became engrossed in the man's insanity and the bizarreness o...more

Tough Skin is a roller coaster ride through an insane mind filled with unusual, dark, and gruesome tales that will send chills down your spine. As a lover of horror and all things weird, I found Tough Skin to be insanely unique in style and content. It is sure to turn the stomache of the weak. It could be enjoyable if you have a liking for side show freaks.

Tired of the same old story? Then this book is for you. Truly an original collection that starts with time travel and ends with the babysitter. In between you will find a drunken uncle, a hundred-year old monkey & that your cats are right.

Delightfully deranged. These poems beg to be read aloud (or shut in a closet where no one will ever find them). I want to hug the author, take her to tea, and then gently escort her to a mental institution.

I write poemlike things a lot of the time. I am obsessed with the 100-year-old monkey.
