Tane hat es mir echt angetan, aber Styx kann er nicht vom Thron schupsen, da kann er noch so lange halbnackt in der Gegend rumlaufen. Dieser Mann hat zwar Charme, war mir jedoch etwas zuuuu aufgesetzt. Nach der Hälfte des Buches habe ich mir ein T-Shirt und Schuhe dazu gedacht und schon wurde es besser. Tane überzeugt jedoch durch seine Art. Er will den Bösen spielen ist aber eigentlich so weich wie ein Teddybär und schafft es nicht seinen eigentlich Job durch zu ziehen sondern wird von Laylahs hübschen Augen gefangen genommen und so sitzt er nach einem sehr erotischen Tächtel- Mächtel "schon ziemlich am Anfang des Buches" in der Patsche. Er hat seine Frau gefunden, will sie nicht mehr hergeben und so muss er nun versuchen sie zu beschützen.

Alles läuft ziemlich nach Schema F ab. Es ist nichts wirklich Neues oder ach so Wichtiges in dem Buch zu finden aber die Mischung macht es. Es ist die Mischung aus Romantik, Erotik und totaler Spannung die Alexandra Ivy so sehr beherrscht. Bis jetzt habe ich noch keine Autorin gefunden die mich mit ihrem 7 Vampirbuch noch so mitreißen konnte, auch wenn nicht alles neu ist. Aber Frau Ivy hat einen Trick - sie nutzt nicht nur Vampire für ihre Bücher sondern auch noch Dschinns, Werwölfe, Orakel, Dämonen usw. .... Dadurch entsteht eine Kunterbunte Welt in der es immer wieder etwas Neues zu entdecken gibt.
Eine ganz besondere Person/Geschöpf ist Levet, er ist bis jetzt in allen Büchern dabei gewesen und schafft es mit seinen kleinen Späßen und seinem tollen Humor, genau die richtige Menge an Witz bei zu steuern, die dieses Buch/Reihe braucht.

Auf die weibliche Protagonistin des Buches gehe ich jetzt gar nicht weiter ein. Erst will sie Tane nicht, dann will sie ihn und dann wieder nicht. Das ist in allen Büchern so und das wird sich auch nie ändern. Aber sie war unterhaltsam, hat Sympathie und schafft es nicht zu nervig rüber zu kommen. Außerdem spielt sie nicht das hilflose Weibchen und das muss ich ihr zu Gute halten. Der Erotikanteil des Buches ist immer zu spüren und wie bei Frau Ivy auch sehr prickelnd geschrieben. Sie wird nicht vulgär schafft es die richtigen Worte zu verwenden und die erotischen Szenen nicht billig wirken zu lassen. Das hat sie wirklich drauf und das muss man einfach belohnen.

Am Ende dieses Buches hatte ich nur einen Gedanken: "Wo bleibt Band 8, ich will Band 8!!!" Wenn ich das denke, muss das Buch einfach gut gewesen sein. Außerdem lernen wir so viele neue Charaktere kennen die alle ein eigenes Buch verdient hätten. Einerseits überfordert diese Flut an Protagonisten zwar etwas und ab und zu musste ich auch noch mal an die anderen Bücher zurück denken und nachschauen, wer noch mal wer war, aber wenn man erst einmal drin ist möchte man nie wieder aus dieser Geschichte raus. Alexandra Ivy versteht ihr Handwerk und schafft es mich immer wieder zu begeistern. Diese Frau rockt.

I am quite hero-centric and I really like Ivy's heroes. Tane is dark, solitary, and deadly, and has 'something' in his past but, like Ivy's other heroes, he isn't handicapped by it -I figure immortals should be able to get over it or get therapy. I also liked how Tane spends a fair amount of time in denial about how important Layla truly is to him, even though he never denies his physical attraction to her. The only thing about Tane that worked less well for me was Ivy's physical description of Tane, the shoulder length Mohawk just didn't do it for me and what self-respecting vampire – and one who is a feared hunter of his own kind at that – has a wardrobe that consists solely of khaki shorts. I also liked Layla too, she has the prerequisite stubbornness necessary to hold her own against an immortal alpha male, and yet is still vulnerable due to the funkiness of her powers and the isolation that her djinn blood has forced on her.

In addition to the Tane and Layla's story, Devoured by Darkness offers a few little peeks at Caine and Cassandra who met at the end of the last book. I wonder if they will eventually get their own story or if they will continue as just a side thread in coming books, either way I hope to see more of them and it is clear that Cassandra is going to make Caine earn his redemption. Also fun, the pair from Ivy's short Yours for Eternity get a small cameo here and their story turn out to be relevant to Layla's. But the best of all, Ivy give an intriguing intro to the next starring pair – who will put another twist in her formula – and that pair has me eagerly anticipating the next book, Bound by Darkness.

Yay!

I had to get that off of my chest. After a dry spell where I was less than happy with most of the new books I have read, I was overjoyed to get my hands on a good one. And Devoured by Darkness is good, indeed.

First off, not to sound preachy, but I think Alexandra Ivy is a hidden jem. With the exception of a somewhat shaky first book, her Guardians of Eternity series is excellent. Really excellent. Yet for some reason, a lot of the time they tend to slip under the radar for a lot of readers,...more Yay!

I had to get that off of my chest. After a dry spell where I was less than happy with most of the new books I have read, I was overjoyed to get my hands on a good one. And Devoured by Darkness is good, indeed.

First off, not to sound preachy, but I think Alexandra Ivy is a hidden jem. With the exception of a somewhat shaky first book, her Guardians of Eternity series is excellent. Really excellent. Yet for some reason, a lot of the time they tend to slip under the radar for a lot of readers, and that is a shame. They have great characters, lots of action, a ton of passion, and a bit of humor. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that they are smart stories, either.

This story was set up in Salvatore's book, Beyond the Darkness. Tane, the feared Charon, was hot on the trail of a deadly half Jinn...a creature with notoriously unstable powers. But Tane's hunt quickly turns personal when he catches up to Laylah. Even though duty says she must be destroyed, instinct tells him she is to be saved...no matter what the cost.

Barefoot, shirtless, mohawked Tane was a treat. A loner by necessity and circumstance, I loved seeing him find himself firmly caught by Laylah. Despite his quiet nature, Tane could and did get intense. And, as a bonus, I liked Laylah, too. And lately, my liking a heroine has been rare. She was the right combination of tough and vulnerable, and that is a tricky line. Too far either one way or the other tends to grate on my nerves, but Laylah was strong enough to fight her own battles, but strong enough to let Tane help.

There are a couple of longer story arcs either developing or continuing here, setting up the future books, and I must say I was intrigued by all of them. There is still Caine and Cassie story, which was revisited here, along with the introduction of Uriel and probably Kata's arc. Most surprising is the fact that a new character is up next rather than either of those two. The cynical fey and the hunter vampire are a combustible pair, and things look to get even hotter in Bound By Darkness.

This was a great book, and saved be from a string of the just decent. Alexandra Ivy can always be counted on, and Devoured by Darkness is a perfect example of why.(less)

He wants to know what is so important that she would risk her own life for, just to prevent him from discovering it.

Laylah has been chased her entire life because of decisions that she was never a part of. The only thing she wants in life is to live. The Commission decided at some point that Jinn and Jinn half breeds must be executed, they are too unstable. Laylah has never even met the parents that birthed her into this death sentence of a life. She has a strong will to live. She has to survive now to in order to continue protecting a child that she was entrusted with decades before. Many shocking revelations are made in this book: the reason the Commission wants Laylah, the importance of the child, how Laylah came into existence. This is a very exciting read that is nearly impossible to put down. The romance between Tane and Laylah is incredible. They have a few hurdles to get through, but that just keeps the book even more interesting. Due to the past events in their lives they have some trust issues.

I think this is the best book in the series thus far. I loved the main characters. I enjoyed the roles that the characters from the past books played. I also enjoyed meeting the characters to the next books. This is a series that must be read in order. Each book picks up where the previous one left off. There is very little to no rehashing. The readers are given some information on what became of Cassandra and Caine. I enjoy reading riddle speaking prophets who typically cause more confusion than give answers. I hope Cassandra gets a book. She is going to be so fun to read. As is she is running Caine through the paces. She takes everything so literally. The readers are also introduced to the couple in the Supernatural anthology (August 2011) Uriel and Kata and also the couple in the next book Bound by Darkness (November 2011) Ariyal and Jaelyn.

Tane is very powerful and is exceptional at hunting. Not the most original type of vampire but there is a rough edge to Tane that makes him stand out among his vampire counterparts. Laylah was raised by a foster mother and has kept a low profile because she is part jinn and the law says she should be killed. Jinn are known for being ruthless and have black hearts so of course it's assumed Laylah is just the same. Instead she is a smart survivor with unstable powers who will give her life to protect a child that's not even hers. She adds a softness (only for her that is) to Tane that makes him less vicious than he normally is. Tane in turn gives Laylah someone she can actually trust in for the first time. For a good part of the book it is a game of cat and mouse between them. I thought Laylah gave in a bit too easily. She was dead set on not trusting him but then fell in to bed with him quickly for someone who couldn't wait to get away from him just a couple pages ago. While I liked Tane and Laylah, I thought there relationship wasn't as strong as some of the others in this series because theirs was more of a physical connection that an emotional one.

The baby Laylah is protecting is more than what it seems. Marika, a sadistic vampiress, has been searching for both of them for years. She wants to get her hands on the baby so she can bring the Dark Lord over into this world and rule by his side. Marika will use the power of a mage and assistance from Sylvermyst, related to the fey and are very cruel, to get what she wants. Marika is evil to the core. Her very touch will cause terrible pain and not even her own family is spared her wrath. I liked Marika because she was true to what she was throughout the book. No soft touchy redeeming moment at the end for her. The main story arc in this series is that something bad is coming. No one is quite sure what or when but it's going to be deadly and it's going to be soon. We learn that the baby does play a role but not much else. A lot of the book was spent on Tane and Laylah so I wished more would have been revealed.

Devoured By Darkness has the same feel as the other books in the series with appearances from characters fans love and I think those who are already invested in the series will enjoy this one. Though Laylah and Tane's relationship felt more physical than anything else, it worked for them. My favorite and the bane of all male vampires, Levet, is back and is as charming as ever. The small gargoyle steals every scene. New characters are introduced and the way this book ends has you wanting to know what happens next.

I truly like Ivy's Guardians of Eternity series. I do. I like it. Do I LOVE them? Not quite. It's hard to compare with JR Ward's Blackdagger Brotherhood. The books are building up the storylines of several characters (that is one thing I love about this series) and there is an ongoing "bad guys" storyline that has been built up over the past 2 or 3 books.

Well,this book was not the greatest. Everything in this book surrounded sex, at some points, I forgot where this author was headed. The characters had sex ever 25 pages it was annoying. I know that this book is a romance novel but one sex scene or two is enough. Romance is supposed to be about love between two people, isn't it. Alexandra Ivy's clear, smooth writing style and the intensity of the characters in this book worked well together as the reader is taken on a journey with the mongrel Jinn, Laylah, and the tormented Charon, Tane, as they battle to save the world from the enslavement of dark forces.

Laylah is mongrel. A mix between a Jinn and something else and Tane is not only a vampire but a Charon, a vampire assassin. He's known for being ruthless and never takes any mercy on anybody. He's just one bad-ass vampire and Laylah is really sweet and she has a very kind nature about her but the weird thing is she's been hauling around this baby that i...more I thought this book was awesome but at the same time it was a little disconcerting with the baby factor. Laylah is mongrel. A mix between a Jinn and something else and Tane is not only a vampire but a Charon, a vampire assassin. He's known for being ruthless and never takes any mercy on anybody. He's just one bad-ass vampire and Laylah is really sweet and she has a very kind nature about her but the weird thing is she's been hauling around this baby that is inanimate, more like a doll, for the last 50 years. Sorry but that just creeped me out. I equated it with something Alice Cooper sang about back in the 70s.

Anyway, Tane gets this and he helps her take care of this baby that really doesn't need anything to survive other than to be hidden and moved from place to place. Got it. It's supposed to the spawn of the Dark Lord and everybody wants to kill it except for Laylah who believes the baby is innocent so she's protecting it and then Tane is so in love with Laylah that he's protecting it, too.

That was the basis of the story. But the end was really creepy because the baby was a Gemini, meaning twins, and the other baby was a girl and Laylah had felt no attachment to that child. She didn't even know it was there so it went down with Sergei in the portal and nobody really seemed to care. I guess either rescuing her or chasing her down for being evil is for another novel. This baby and that wimpy whiny Sergei who really is a bastard.

I was glad when Marika was killed. She was wicked mean and death was too easy for her.

Now, Laylah's mom is somewhere and the baby girl is somewhere and yeah, I hope it's covered in another novel. And let's not forget Caine and Cassandra and Ariyal and Jaelyn. The latter two went down the portal, too.

Oh and I still love Styx the best. :) If I had to line up these guys by who is my favorite, I'd have to say Styx, Salvatore, Dante, Cezar, Jagr, Tane and finally Viper. It's not that I dislike Viper but man, that guy is vain. So is Salvatore but he's got a real good sense of humor about him and he had me laughing a lot.

I thoroughly enjoyed how Ivy made Tane such strong warrior and yet the chink in his armour comes in the size of a petite half gypsy-half jinn named Laylah.

The epic storyline that has been developing in the series has a touching aspect in this tale of Laylah who's willing to sacrifice everything for a mystical baby that she has been protecting. Tane really never had a chance, because Laylah has such a beautiful soul despite all the tragedy she has endured.

This was the first "guardians of eternity" novel that I have read. Tane is a bad-ass vampire who meets his match in a Jinn-mongrel named Laylah. Her biggest concern is saving a child from the evil that stalks it. The fact that being a half breed is enough to get her killed only adds to the danger. Add in a cast of Alpha characters and their mates and a delightful gargoyle who I found endearing and you have a great story. This was the first book in the series that I didn't want to put the book down and go back to work. I actually stayed up late last night to finish it too. This was my favorite Darkness book yet...there is one left to read before the wait begins for the next one. I will be in eReader transition so it may be a while before I order up. As for Devoured by Darkness, I liked the characters of Tane and Laylah a lot. Both wounded by their past and both tentative (and willing) explorers of their future together, albeit not understanding the give/take of relationship. I was very happy to read about Tane. So in this book the Charon Tane and the half demon Laylah are in the focus of the story. Tane is a Charon, a killer who is trained to kill rogue vampires. One of her talents is shadow walking which enables her to move between dimensions traveling a great distance to a place of her choosing. Like Tane, she has been an outcast all her life, as Jin half-breeds are forbidden by the powerful demon Oracles, who form the Commission of judgment. She has been living in hiding or fleeing from the Commission’s edict most of her life.

As the story opens we find Laylah near exhaustion, after running for days from a vampire who has remained cloaked in shadow and moves like the wind. When she can go no further and realizes it is hopeless to try to outrun the annoying “leech” she finally turns and faces her pursuer. Tane is extremely intuitive and he knows the beautiful halfbreed is hiding something she values above all else, a child. He senses she is important but doesn’t understand why. Alexandra Ivy penned incredible sexual chemistry between these two, from their first confrontation, Tane wants Laylah and he will not be denied.

Laylah proves to be extremely resourceful and cunning, she doesn’t trust anyone and her relationship with Tane proves to be a battle of the wills. This is one independent, determined heroine and as fate would have it, the vampire who she initially considered a deadly enemy becomes her lover and fiercest protector. In fact, he ends up physiologically bound to her. In London, England Laylah finally learns more about her origins, and the identity of her true enemies.

Alexandra Ivy penned a malevolent, psychotic antagonist in the vicious vampire Marika who keeps Sergei Krakov an evil mage at her side. Marika has been searching for Laylah for a long time as she and the child she protects is key to her horrific plan to rule the world. Marika’s evil is absolutely chilling, and her manipulation of Laylah is nothing short of diabolical. Further, Sergei is equally power hungry, the mage and his malicious magic is not unknown to Laylah.

I thoroughly enjoyed this paranormal thrill ride that is packed full of surprising revelations and action. Tane and Laylah both have tragic pasts and I found them to be extremely lonely. Their romance is especially wonderful because their desire, I think is amplified by the fact that they need companionship.

Tane’s need to protect Laylah is thwarted by the Oracles who issue a dire proclamation regarding his involvement with the half-breed Jin, it seems she holds the future of the world in her hands. They are in a race against time to retrieve the child she has hidden away and stop Marika and Sergei from releasing catastrophe on the world. I found the climax and conclusion of this novel to be a nail biter.

Devoured by Darkness is the 7th novel in the Guardians of Eternity series and I’ve been reading the stories from last to first. Alexandra Ivy provides excellent background information for her world and its inhabitants, in each book and think the stories could be read as standalones, however once I became immersed in her world I wanted to know more. I have to admit to loving vampire stories and am so impressed by this author’s characterization of these alpha heroes. Her characterization and prose brings their power and strength to life on the page, further the numerous ghoulies that are woven into this plot are so creative. Most notable is Levet, a miniature gargoyle with a French accent who inevitably ingratiates himself with the novel’s heroine and readers alike. He is so peculiar in appearance and mannerisms that he is cute!

There is a story arc written in Devoured by Darkness that leads to the 8th book in the series, Bound by Darkness that is was released this week. If you enjoy a dark paranormal romance that hosts a stellar cast of characters you may like to give Devoured by Darkness a try.(less)

Alexandra Ivy did a great job in this book weaving together her already established world and past characters relationships. The Relationship between Tane and Laylah sizzled and drew me in immediately. The book has set up at least 3 new story lines which I'm very excited to see where they go. The Uriel and Kata which will be in Ivy's short story release in October I think. Ariyal and Jaelyn which will hopefully solve some of the problems left open in this story. I really enjoy this series by Alexandra Ivy and although she does a great job in maintaining the magic created from the first book this one is not my favorite.

This is the story of Tane (the Charon) and Laylah (a Jinn Mongrel). The story picks up right from where the last one left off. This was a little difficult for me because much time has passed since I read the last book. I had to refer to the previous book to remind myself about a previous character-Caine. What happened to him in the previous book plays somewhat a role in this book.
The hero Tane did not like the heroine Laylah because of her heritage. I like how the author developed this part of the relationship. She did not rush it by having the h/h not like it other on page one but by page 10 they were in love. Tane is not a well-liked character because of his positon-being the Charon is equal to being a cop/assassinator. He is also unique in that his Polynesian heritage has him sporting a shaved head with a Mohawk and comfortable with not wearing shoes (umm yeah-that lost him some hottie points).
Laylah is a unique character in that she is part Jinn. She is considered to be a mongrel because she is half Jinn and half human. This causes her to have no control over her powers. By law she should be executed therefore she has been in hiding. She is unwittingly tasked with hiding an important secret. The story is about the journey Laylah and Tane takes to keep this secret.
There is a side story about Caine (who was a Cur-low on the were scale and now a pure blooded Cur) and Cassie (who is a prophet) which personally I could have done without. It seems as this part was just thrown into the story. It really served no purpose and frankly I really hope the author does not make a book for Caine and Cassie. They were BORING and I don’t care for Caine’s character.
Of course the all loving mini gargoyle Levet shows up in this story. How can he not? It would be “Scarebleu”.
I give this one a rating of 3.5.
