This is sort of a "Berenstain Bears Go To the Potty" toned book--hey, did those folks ever write that one? The whole thing here is too old for toddlers. Older kids--particularly the sort of little boys who like things about pooping and farting might enjoy this, but the preachy tone will turn them off.
If you want potty humor more directed at the potty set, Mo Willems Time to Pee is more on level, less moralistic and a whole lot cuter. Disappointing and irritating that the reviews ...more

This book is very funny and a lot more involved than most potty training books. It goes beyond the basics of learning to go and focuses instead on keeping up with those big kid skills.

My older kid thought it was hysterical (and he definitely needs some of those reminders!) while my potty training little one enjoyed the pictures more than the potty points. So in my opinion, it's not a book for toddlers and preschoolers learning to use the potty, but a great book for kindergarten a...more

just really funny. I cracked up when reading this to my 3 yo son. some things you have to clarify & add some text when you're reading it, because when forced to rhyme every line, the point sometimes comes across as confusing.
I just go into hysterics when reading this book to my kid, I don't know why. especially when I get to the fox page..... can't explain it.

When my nephew and his family visited last Fall, I noticed that, while he had been potty trained for years, his potty manners were lacking.
He never closed the door, didn't wipe properly, didn't wash his hands unless reminded, and would lollygag in the bathroom,

When I introduced him to Potty Animals, he made an instant connection. He loved it, and asked me to read it to him over and over again. Then, he would say things like, "I won't be an Arnold!" (The character wh...more

This would be a great book to read to a younger class at the beginning of the year. It covers the basics of using a public restroom: putting up the seat, washing your hands, locking the door, zipping your zippers, and using the bathroom before you go on a trip. This would be especially good to read if you have a bathroom in your classroom!

Great book for potty training and young kids coming from different backgrounds in potty training. This book can help students learn very important facts about going to the restroom that they have not learned while at home. I liked how the last page lists all of the potty rules that could be blown up and placed near the restroom.

Every preschool and Kindergarten teacher needs this. It gives you the opportunity to talk about the bathroom etiquette with animals as characters, before (hopefully) it really happens and you have to single out the kids. Sure the kids will know which animal is the real one in your class, but this didactic little book works fine.

This book teaches children how to have proper manners when going to the restroom. This book made a lot of sense, but it was awkward at times when the author mentioned things such as "pee" and referred to other bathroom functions. Overall, it was very helpful for children.

This is a good book for kids/parents for dealing with those issues that develop once potty training is well under way. This is less about how to go potty and more about the things around it--washing your hands, zipping your pants, closing the door, and so on!

Who doesn't love a bit of Potty Humor? And if comes along with positive life lessons, so much the better. Everyone will recognize somebody they know (quite possibly themselves...more than once)in the cast of this story. It's really difficult to write rhyming children's books that have a natural flow. I imagine authors tapping their heads and muttering, "what rhymes with orange?" In Potty Animals: What to Know When You've Gotta Go!, Hope Vestergaard's rhymes add to rather than detr...more

I learned of this book at a Children's Literature conference and FELL IN LOVE. I went to the library that same night and brought it to school to read to my students. By the end of the day I had shared the book with most of my coworkers!!

Funniest and truest book you've ever seen about young kids and their bathroom habits. Sing-song-y and funny but never shaming about the things that all kids do in and around the bathroom. Destined to be a classic.

Colorful picture book about potty time.. though the text is long and rhythmic - great for older kids but not good for the actual potty-training child.

Best book ever that addresses potty training!

this is a humorous tale of a bunch of animals who fall flat of mastering the finer points of proper bathroom etiquette. (those who may not be flushing every time, the buggers that spray piss all over your goddamned bathroom, and bargers) teach your kids proper bathroom manners without making them feel like jerks by reading them this book.
