The historical biodiversity in the state of Kentucky is almost unmatched in any other state. What has happened and what continues to happen to that same amazingly complex, beautiful, interconnected biodiversity is in question. This book is both profoundly amazing and discouraging, as it instructs and comments on both. It felt like a cross between a text book and coffee table book, and was filled with maps, charts, beautiful photographs, data and easily understood writing. I found this book while ...more

I couldn't imagine that a book like this existed until I saw a copy on display in our public library ...and promptly informed my family that it was the one and only thing I wanted for Christmas last year. They believed me. Then they had trouble believing how obnoxious I could be with oohing and ahhing over the photos, spouting facts from the many tables and lists, and sharing my concerns about the future existence of a lovely rare snail with a purple shell.
