In Wish I Might, Willa really misses her boyfriend, JFK. She also finds out the dog she found on the beach has been claimed by someone. She also learns she has a brother. She thinks it isn't real, but then when she is doing some research she finds out he is her brother but they have different moms. Willa and her brother, Will, go around the Cape Cod area to try and find the dad because Will still thinks he is real. When Willa tells her mom about Will and how he thought their dad was still alive,...more
Continue the long days of Cape Cod summer with Willa Havisham and friends. JFK is away at baseball camp, Tina & Ruby are getting closer to each other and farther away from Willa, her new-found brother has a wild theory, and who knows where Mariel is. This next installment of the Wedding Planner's Daughter series is a little heavier than the first few because of the subject of Willa's father. The only reason her step-brother came to Cape Cod in the first place was to search for their father....more
This was cute. That's all. Not a waste of time because it is a quick read but a la meme temps... it was simply and only and forever just cute.
Don't know if I want to read any of the other 'Willa Havashim' books becuase it was so so-so.
I wanted to be impressed. I tried to be impressed.
But something about the 'Skinny Punch' books the author had the character constantly talk about (skinny, quick reads that pack a punch) made me think the author considered or at least hoped this book would be such a...more

This is a hard review to write because I adored the first three books in this series. But when the series took a turn from being "The Wedding Planner's Daughter" series to "The Life of Willa Havisham" the charm started to fade. I could deal with the last book because there were still glimpses of the charm that I liked. There was the big twist at the end with Willa's brother which was somewhat out of character for the books I thought, but still interesting. But Wish I Might just fell flat for me....more
A quick bit of fluff. Willa's boyfriend has just taken off for a summer with his grandparents in Florida. Willa is in transition with her old best friends and with her boyfriend gone and her new best friend evicted and nowhere to be found Willa is at loose ends. Her father was 'lost at sea' - a ballooning accident- she has never known him and she is settled in with Sam, her stepfather and her mother in an utterly charming inn on Cape Cod. Out of the blue a boy arrives announcing he is her brothe...more
Paratore's books, especially the Willa Havisham series, are punchy & lyrically written in a way that really draws the reader in. Willa herself is an extremely sympathetic character, & the setting - the small town of Bramble on Cape Cod - is just marvelous. All the characters are gently, lovingly well-drawn.
Willa is stunned to discover the good-looking British boy she's seen about town has been purposely following her - but that's nothing compared to the shock she gets when he announces...more

Can I give this less than One Star?
Coleen Murtagh Paratore’s Wish I Might is a diabetic’s nightmare. Cliché and trite this slim novel features fourteen-year-old Willa Havisham in her 5th adventure. Like each of Willa’s previous books, Wish I Might blends romance and fantasy, this time unsuccessfully. Willa has just discovered her long-lost brother, unimaginatively named “Will.” And, to shoe-horn in a fantasy element, a mermaid has been spied of the coast of her Cape Cod home. The plot is predic...more

Willa still lives in Cape Cod with her Mom and Stepdad at the Bramblebriar Inn. She’s looking forward to a great summer with her best friend Tina and her boyfriend JFK. But before the summer really gets started Tina starts hanging out a lot with Ruby and JFK goes to baseball camp leaving Willa to wonder what happened to her fabulous summer.
And then there’s the new boy, Will. He seems pretty interested in Willa and he has a pretty big secret that involves Willa too. Should JFK be jealous?

Cute, fast read. While this is several books into a series, I had no trouble picking up the story. Best for young teens and tweens, my only complaint would be that 15 yo Willa seems, at times, much younger and too uncomplicated to be a teenager. She deals with issues to which every teen can relate, but her solutions and handlings of the situations seem very black and white. She is a character born in middle-grade fiction who is growing up in years but hasn't quite made the emotional leap to youn...more
The Deal: Willa's perfect summer in Bramble, Cape Cod isn't going as perfect as she hoped for. Her best friend Tina is boy crazy and she and their other friend Ruby are making Willa feel left out. Joey, Willa's boyfriend, is spending the whole summer away from her in Miami. Even her new dog, Salty, has deserted her for a boy named Will*.
Only that Will claims Salty was his dog first, and that Willa is actually his sister - something Willa can't deny as they look so much alike. What's more, Will...more

What Willa Doesn't Have This Summer
~Her boyfriend Joey (drat baseball camp!)
~Her best friend Tina (too busy with Ruby stalking cute lifeguards)
~Her new best friend Mariel (She's in NY with her mom)
What She Does Have:
~Strange British boy claiming 1) he's her half-brother and 2) their father might still be alive
Willa turns to her old standbys candy (you can't go wrong with taffy) and books to help her relax and deal with all this new complication.
What I thought: Another great installment in Willa'...more

I really enjoyed this book because I can relate to the main character Willa. She has two mean friends and she isn't that popular. She is kinda nerdy. I also own a condo near a beach. I really like how there are twists all through the story. Some parts are sad, but I would recomend this to anyone. This is definetly a summer read!

I majored in English at The College of Saint Rose, in Albany, and after two internships in advertising and public relations, decided to enter the communications field, which is a place where writers can write and make a living too. I got married three months after graduation (my husband Tony and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary next August ), and we moved to Connecticut. I worked...more
