Three words: OH MY GOSH!!!

The Author Melissa Foster has done it again here. This book took me from one emotion to another. It may be a work of fiction but how many times does this really happen in real life. Sickness, lies, love, secrets, looking back to the past. Melissa really puts a lot of punch into this book.

The characters are down to earth, angry, hurt, concerned, scared, emotions all over the place. And when I say characters there, I mean All of them. YES, even the guys!!

The characters are down to earth, angry, hurt, concerned, scared, emotions all over the place. And when I say characters there, I mean All of them. YES, even the guys!!

I do not believe that I have every read a book in which my own emotions were all over like this. I mean that I have read some great awesome books but this one well. From one page to the next that I was not crying, screaming, mad, and yes even laughing. In some places where Megan would describe some of her beliefs and life I would just sit down and die... pardon the word there, but really, I would think of some other people that would say "yeah, that is how it is and if you don't like it there is the door" (not in the book that way but in my head) =]

I have read some other book by Author Melissa Foster but this one for some reason I just wanted more. I wanted it to say the ending was not the real ending. Or some other twist. Not that there was not enough twists and turn in this one but it was just I rooted for Megan, and well I will not give away the book. I always try my best not too. I feel that you should read for your self. This review is just my words. And you need to make up your own mind.

I love love how Author Melissa Foster put these friends together. I love the part that Megan had a daughter, but the other Characters did not. You will see what I mean about this when you read it.

I even loved how the book took different paths and at times it seemed long it still all came together. Not many can do that, but here Author Melissa Foster did. Also in the back of the book she put a Conversation with Melissa Foster. Oh the insights!! This is a must read for 2011!!

This book was a highly emotional read. The main plot dealt with Megan's courageous decision when cancer returned to ravage her bones. She struggled with guilt, fear and the wish to spare her daughter, but in the process pushed her daughter away.

Megan's Way kept me interested from beginning to end. Although the book is fiction, it deals with the realistic subject of cancer. Cancer is all about decisions, and Megan makes a huge one. Megan’s Way started off with an intriguing scene at a carnival; it was a believable introduction with all the sights and smells of a carnival and an ominous visit to the tent we are all inexplicably drawn to: the psychic card-reader. My Review

MEGAN’S WAY is a story wrought with the strength of friendships, making choices, and keeping secrets. I’ve never read a book that focused so much on the thoughtfulness of others. Megan, Holly, Jack, Peter, and Olivia are all deeply thoughtful and caring people who are totally committed to each other. Each of them, through different circumstances, were forced to look deep within themselves and deal with their past and present decisions. Over time, people’s depth of morals, values, and traditions change – some for the better, some for the worst.

Megan and her daughter, Olivia, had a strong relationship filled with so much love and closeness that they had a bit of a paranormal connection in that they could feel each other’s pain.

The decision Megan made in the end is the same decision I think I would have made as well if I were ever in the same circumstance that Megan was. Tough decisions are not easy to make but Megan’s overwhelming love for her daughter propels her to that end.

The characters were so well developed and I was immediately drawn in right from the beginning of this book. I had to keep the Kleenex box at hand for a few pages here and there. I would highly recommend this book for everyone and believe once you’ve read it, you’ll think of your own mortality a little bit differently.

My Review:
Megan’s Way is about four life-long friends whose lives are so intertwined it is hard to see where one ends and the next begins. Yet, they end up harboring the deepest, darkest, secrets from each other.
It is a game for me to figure out where the title of a book comes from. Sometimes I am consciously looking for it, and other times it sneaks up on me and all of a sudden, there it is – the reason for the title. That is what happened with Megan’s Way. I was so caught up in the story line that it snuck up on me. Megan is a free spirit that her friends would always describe as “what you see is what you get.” She didn’t hide or pretend. She lived her life as herself and to its fullest; something I think we all would like to do.
When she became pregnant, the only change Megan made in her life was to change the focus from herself to her daughter, Olivia. Even when she was diagnosed with cancer, her focus remained on what was best for her daughter. Megan had a sixth sense when it came to her daughter, Olivia. She knew and felt when she was in trouble or in need of her. I understand that sense and I really enjoyed experiencing it in the book. Not to give the story line away, when you read about their connection and learn about the secrets, it will leave you pondering.
I admired Megan’s decision not to continue treatment. I have often wondered about what my decisions would be and I always come back to the same decision. I lean in the direction of not taking treatments. The book gave me some insight into how it might affect those around me.
I will tell you that I spent a lot of time crying. This book is a must read, but first, buy yourself a box of really soft Kleenex!

I loved this book. It was inspiring, full of love and hope in what could have been a "hopeless" situation. What I especially liked was the author's characters.
Megan's love for her daughter and her friends is so warmly presented as are their love for her. How would a person who is dying deal with leaving those they loved and wanting to spare them the most pain and yet deal with her own feelings, knowing that there is no cure and that she will die, not to mention her physical pain?

Olivia's confusion, rebellion, anger with her mother seem realistic with what she is facing but also consistent with a teenage girl coping with growing up. She's suffered once with her mother's original diagnosis of cancer and when it returns, so does the pain.

Megan's three friends are loyal and accepting of the choices that she makes. Holly jumps right in to care for Megan and Olivia the first time Megan gets sick and she never seems to count the cost, but gives her love truly from her heart. Peter is able to be their for Olivia and still be loyal to his friend, probably a very difficult thing to do when you become friends with both a mother and her teenage daughter. Jack, in the beginning seems very much an extension of Holly. The reader knows that their love for each other is a strong bond and it's only toward the end of the novel that we learn of his true role in the story.

There are little touches of the supernatural in this book, but they are not the focus of the book. In the beginning Megan and Holly as teenagers themselves go to see a fortune teller at a carnival and this prepares the reader for the plot as well as the supernatural element. Megan, as a mother, has a sensitivity to Olivia's situations that go into the realm beyond a sixth sense. She literally feels things and knows things that are going on with Olivia that she could not know otherwise and that show what a loving mother she is. This love continues to manifest itself in the later half of the book as well when the picture is very different. (Don't want to give away a plot spoiler here)

Immediately the tone is set where we have the fear of Megan dying and we don’t want her to. We love the strength Megan has. We worry about Olivia. The characters have a very special connection they share together. They know when something is wrong with the other. Call it a sixth sense; call it Spiritual. Olivia is upset, yet very sad at the same time knowing her mother is going to die. Olivia hears her mother in the bathroom throwing up. She sees her in the car pulling over, having to throw up. Olivia knows what is going on. She can feel it. There is no doubt her mother is not going to beat the cancer this time. How does a young 14-year old deal with something like this? The loss of the only parent she has, or ever known and loves?
Megan has a very special lifelong friendship bond with three friends who have all been together since childhood. They all care for each other, and especially Megan and Olivia very deeply. They all have their own lives, as well as their own secrets, as all people do. We learn about them all. These characters focus on one thing now. Olivia. As they all go through this loss together, they also suffer independently, as well. Nothing is to be taken for granted. The journey they all go through together as Megan says goodbye is unlike any other friendship I have seen. It is a very Spiritual goodbye. It is caring, and so very, very special. This story is at its finest.
There is a lot I have left out of this book review and it may seem a little sketchy, but I did it intentionally. I do not want to give away any spoilers because this book is a must-read book! Do know there is much, much more to this story than what I have written about. There is so much more you won’t want to put this book down, at least I did not want to!. There are some great shockers in it as well, so much so, they will make you literally turn back pages and reread them over to make sure what you just read is correct! At least I had to do that! You will fall out of your chair! Melissa Foster is such a talented and exceptional writer, she has written a book with such a heavy subject matter, something we all fear and dread, yet turns it around to touch our hearts with it. This is writing at its’ finest. This story will stay with you always. You will never forget this book. It puts that mark on our hearts forever. Is it any wonder this book has been adapted into a movie? Yes, it IS that good! This is not just a must-read this book, it is a HAVE-TO read book! I give this book a 5-star rating! Remember, I just don’t give out 5-star ratings! The book must be exceptional, and this one IS VERY EXCEPTIONAL!

She has also kept the name of Olivia's father from everyone. As Megan becomes sicker and her time left with friends and family lessens she has to decide what each of them should know about her past actions.

Olivia is a wonderful fourteen year old. She and her mother have a bond that most do not. Megan can feel her emotions and her pain as if they are her own. The first time Megan was sick with cancer it was scary for Olivia and Megan knew just how hard it was. Olivia knows her mother is hiding something again, but cannot get her mother to admit it. As Megan pushes Olivia away to prepare her for a life without a mother Olivia becomes angry and feels hurt by her mom. These emotions cause Olivia to make decisions she would never have considered before. She just wants her mother to notice her again.

Holly is the best friend. She also holds a secret so deep that it could change everyone's lives. As she watches Megan shrink from illness she can't decide if divulging the secret would help or just make everything worse.

This novel is full of deep relationships. The relationship between Megan and her friends is one we all wish to have. These are friends that have been in her life for twenty-one years for everything that matters. These friends provide support and unconditional love. Each year on Megan's birthday they gather to renew themselves and their friendships. It is a time they bless each other and reconnect.

Several supernatural aspects exist in the novel. We meet a psychic who predicts the future - too precisely for comfort, Megan feels the emotions of her child, and after death we view the world from above with Megan. These episodes are created beautifully in Megan's Way. The tenderness and love is portrayed deeply and the emotions are raw.

Melissa Foster has written a novel that pulls your heart in so many directions. I cried more while reading this than I have for a long time for a book. My heart literally ached while reading this. I was drawn in deeply to the love and the friendships and didn't want to see it all end. I would absolutely recommend it to everyone!(less)

The story behind the relationships drips slowly through inner thoughts of the characters; new motivations reveal themselves and ever more complex secrets come to light. Some things I guessed. Others I had to wait to find out. But the mystery’s not the real point of the story, and neither are the curious rituals and prayers that Megan leads, nor the seeming magic of her relationship with Olivia. With influences from many different spiritual paths, the characters learn and remind each other that opportunities abound in life and death, and that giving up is never the right response.

For different reasons, each character is tempted to give up on the love they share in the course of this tale. Their story’s not an easy one, but their hope and perseverance is inspiring, and the complex honesty of keeping secrets becomes neither good nor bad—just a way to move on. Megan’s Way is a hard novel to classify; it follows a path through several different genres, not quite family drama, nor paranormal mystery, nor coming-of-age, nor spiritual; the story, like the characters, is complex and passes through clear and distinct stages. For myself, I enjoyed the later parts best as Olivia’s character evolved, but another reader would choose a different favorite. Not a novel for readers seeking straight-forward story-telling, or triumphant traditional values, this is a tale that will make readers think and leave them content to know the whole truth’s still more than we’ve heard, and the whole love more than we can tell.

Megan's Way by Melissa Foster is an emotionally moving book especially for a first time, self-publish novel. I cried at nearly every turn of the page. Most books I read where the story jumps around from one characters point of view to the other get confusing and the story is lost trying to keep up with who says what and who did what. Melissa does a great job in bringing you into the life of her characters and keeps the story rolling smoothly.

This book was awful. First of all it was so freaking depressing, even though I didn't shed one tear. To me, if an author makes you cry through her words, they are able to convey the emotion that they intended when they wrote the story. I didn't feel the need to cry once even though the story was sad. I felt like the authors writing and characters were one dimensional and had no depth whatsoever. This story unfolds with such vivid detail, I actually felt physically ill as Megan struggled with her disease and treatment. Megan was dying there was no hope. Treatment would only extend her days on earth, as well as her suffering. She faced an epic decision. I enjoyed reading this novel even though I ran across a few areas that I believe could have been fleshed out more. Butting heads with Mom is typical teenager. They all have to try to spread their wings before they are ready and Olivia is no different. But she ends up getting kidnapped and almost raped when she spreads her wings in the wrong direction. Only a close relationship of the paranormal kind with her mother keeps it from taking place. Still, it’s a traumatic event and yet we never hear another word about it. Since Megan did end up gouging the man’s eye out during the rescue, I would have thought it deserved more time. It should have had a longer reaching effect on Olivia. Considering how the novel ends, I also would’ve liked more information on how Megan and Olivia could have this strange connection.

A lot of time is spent building toward this mysterious ritual Megan and her best friends have every year. The way Megan was going on about it, and her not wanting Olivia to take part, had me thinking something big would be taking place. Nothing really ever comes of this either and I couldn’t understand why she didn’t want her daughter there, especially since it would be her last time. Because of the way this novel began in the prologue with the fortune telling, I think I was anticipating going in the direction of paranormal at the ritual. I have to say I felt a bit let down. But, these two parts were the only ones that bothered me. I love the mystery involved with Olivia’s father and it even manages to take me by surprise at the end where Megan’s best friend Holly was concerned. I won’t give this one away. You’ll have to read it for yourself.

The writing is very good, the main characters 3D and real. Olivia acted a little older than fourteen in my eyes, but then again, she’s an only child who is watching her loving mother die. If that doesn’t make you grow up fast, then nothing will. Without the problem areas I mentioned above, I would have easily given this novel five stars. There is no way to read it and not shed a tear or two along the way. For me, it took the whole box of Kleenex to get through. I'll look forward to reading more novels by Melissa Foster in the future.

Feelings, secrets, strong bonds, and supernatural elements are intertwined in this beautifully written novel by Melissa Foster. When Megan discovers that she is sick, she has to face a very difficult decision, mainly concerning her daughter, Olivia. This was an amazing easy read that quickly got inside me and made me feel something for these characters. Not many books bring on emotions in me, but this one did. If you are a mother with a daughter, whom you are close with, this is a MUST read for you. It will make you feel especially grateful for what you have!! It really portrays the love between a mother and her child, and that she would do anything, even in death to protect them!

Let me just start by saying that I LOVED this book. I have never read a book that truly touches you soul so deep that it will everlasting effects. My Thoughts: This is Melissa Foster's first book and I hope there will be many more to come. If you've ever lost someone to cancer or have cared for someone going through chemo, this is a very emotional and sensitive book to read, it's so dead-on to what you feel and go through when you're involved in something like that. As I read this book I was amazed at how one individual could touch so many lives with their presence on this earth. This was a very emotional book for me and I think I went through at least a half a box of Puffs, but maybe that is what I needed. The various characters all examine their life choices, their regrets, secrets, and how they will deal with the loss of this amazing individual. Most people in their lifetime will experience a significant loss and I loved the way this wonderful character was able to help those left behind deal with their feelings.

The bottom line this was a beautifully written book with rich descriptions of the characters that was believable. These were characters I would like to have known in my life and Megan was a character I would have cherished as a friend. I would recommend this book to anyone who would enjoy a great story about and incredible woman's ability to touch so many lives, a good cleansing cry, and a resolution that lets you come away feeling good. The caveat being of course - have a big box of Puffs handy :)(less)

Megan’s Way is a true page turner. Let me place this in true perspective for you. I obtained this as an e-book, which is kind of a new concept for me, and my Kindle application is in my phone and I sat for hours in that little screen until I finished because I could not put it down. That’s what I mean about a true page turner.
