AMOS is a software package, a part of the SPSS portfolio. It allows the user to do structral equation modeling, in which one tests statistical models, to see what model works best.

Most ordinary folks won't have a sense of what that means. But this is a neat, user-friendly program. It allows one to test expectations about how a variety of factors interrelate, to see if we can explain political behavior, criminal behavior, most anything one might be interested in.
