This is still my favorite fairytale. I love it because it can be taken in so many different directions on so many levels of meaning. A young girl betrays her lover's trust and must go on a quest to rescue him from the Troll Queen. The chapter book version East (Edith Pattou) is a great expansion for advanced readers. This book is amazing for discussing trust, mistakes, and courage.
