I Know It's Over
PURE. UNPLANNED. PERFECT. Those were Nick’s summer plans before Sasha stepped into the picture. With the collateral damage from his parents’ divorce still settling and Dani (his girl of the moment) up for nearly anything, complications are the last thing he needs. All that changes, though, when Nick runs into Sasha at the beach in July. Suddenly he’s neck-deep in a relatio...more

And thus my week of reading awesome books concludes with C.K. Kelly Martin's fantastic debut, I Know It's Over. And it. Was. Awesome. After reading Lacey's GoodReads review, I picked it up and was prepared to be totally heartbroken. I might have even been looking forward to it, because I am a Canadian and that's how we are. Or at least that is how I am. I like a good heartbreaking story (it's usually the happy ones that freak me out).

I came into this book with high expectations. Having read excerpts of Martin's other novels, I could tell that I'd enjoy her books. I've been dying to read, The Lighter Side of Life and Death. As I was unable to find a copy of it, I decided to settle for I Know It's Over.

Nick plans on having a long, carefree summer with no distractions and no problems. What with his parents' divorce and his father's new girlfriend, Nick needs all the downtime he can get. Even the girl he's seeing (Dani) is starting to get to him. The girl is up for anything, but for some reason Nick just doesn't seem that in to it anymore.

Interesting and heartbreaking book. I don't like love stories but this is not exactly a love story, this is something more. The first part is love story but not in a sugary way, and the second part of the book is really sad story. The dead-lock in which the characters are is so dramatic and fascinated. The book is really authentic and I think that this is some kind of charm.
This is one teen love story which can teach you, which can make you sad or happy, which can touch you heart.

To say that I was dissapointed by this book is putting it mildly. It started out with Sasha annoucing to Nick that she's pregnant ... As was go through their relationship through the eyes of Nick I kept thinking and wondering if Sasha was playing a cat and mouse game with him ... She was in, she was out, she didn't seem to know what she wanted and he couldn't seem to figure out that she was probably going to end up breaking his heart in the end.

What I really like is getting to see it from a boys pov and the things he went through. I like the way Ms. Martin showed the emotions. Not only the emotionally toll of the relationship but also the psychical toll as well. Nick does his best when it comes to supporting his ex-girlfriends and I admire him for that. He did whatever choice she made. What I didn't like is that Nick didn't really have a choice in the matter. While I was glad that he supported Sasha, Sahsha didn't support him. It was a...more
This book tackles sex, pregnancy, and abortion head on, but it is essentially a story of the end of a relationship told from the point of view of sixteen year old Nick Severson. Nick, a popular and good looking high school hockey player, finds himself completely shaken by the news that his ex-girlfriend is pregnant. This forces him to come to terms with the consequences of his actions and his lingering feelings for Sasha.

What worked:
* Kelly Martin tackles the subject of teen pregnancy from a male PoV and does it satisfactory.
Even though it seems like a love story at first, it quickly becomes something deeper when the characters struggle both physically and emotionally through the life-changing consequences of an unexpected pregnancy.
* Except for a few minor characters, most characters are fleshed out and realistic, allowing you to dive into their psyche, and to feel them next to you.

I did not like this book. In fact, this book made me angry.
Two sixteen year olds, Nick and Sasha, begin dating and eventually become pregnant. Sasha does not want to continue the relationship prior to discovering the pregnancy and keeps to that decision after discovering the pregnancy. To her credit, she does tell Nick that she is pregnant.

This is a very complex book. Opening scene is the 16 year old male protagonist being told by his ex-girlfriend (she dumped him about one month earlier) that she's pregnant. On Christmas Eve.
What I liked about this book was the digging into the adolescent psyche. It's pretty strong stuff. A lot of scenes relating to sex in this book. The overall theme, which you would hope teens would get, is that casual sex is not a good idea, that even the most well-intended kids slip up, and t...more

In I Know It's Over, Nick, 16, finds out that his girlfriend is pregnant. They were careful, they used condoms, but accidents do happen. The book is told through entirely Nick's point of view which makes for a really intimate portrait of teen pregnancy.
Oddly enough the only other book I've read about teen pregnancy was Slam by Nick Hornby and that is also told from the father's point of view. In Slam, the protagonist gets sent forward in time to see what it might be like to be a fath...more

C.K. Kelly Martin's story of a teenage couple's rise, fall and the consequences of the choices they made together. Nick is an ordinary enough teenage boy, dating the girls who allow him to fool around but never quite let him go all the way. He then meets Sasha, who he finds himself falling for and sharing an entirely different kind of connection with, leading to his becoming faithful to her and pursuing a summertime romance together. Nick begins to push Sasha for more from their relationship ...more
I Know It’s Over, a story told from a boy’s point of view is quite refreshing for a change – good thing Nick has a voice that I could tolerate inside my brain.
I have never met a more sensitive, in love, angry, frustrated and confused protagonist as Nick. His summer was supposed to be PURE, UNPLANNED, PERFECT. Until the ex-girlfriend shows up in his front doorstep and tells him she’s pregnant.

"I Know It's Over" is about sixteen year old Nicholas' relationship with Sasha and how they deal with a pregnancy and the pressures of family and friends. One would expect this novel to be heavily based around pregnancy but it's not. It deals with sex, homosexuality, divorce, growing up and friendship. "I Know It's Over" is one of the most realistic and heart wrenching young adult novels I ever read and Martin made sure that all the character were as real as possible.

Wow, I am choosing some real winners lately. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! This book actually made me physically ill. I wanted to scream the entire time about how selfish the characters were and how idiotic their parents are. The parents are so unrealistic and amoral that they are completely unbelievable as characters. Nick's Dad just assumes that Sasha will have an abortion and when Nick finally tells his mom she merely nods her head and tells him he can talk to her. Sasha's supposedly s...more
I Know It’s Over is a book with deep and interesting concepts, sex and homosexuality. Sex and homosexuality is one of many things that some teens go through.
I haven’t read a book where you are reading in the male’s perspective when it comes down to sex and pregnancy. Typically, sex and pregnancy are in a female’s point of view, but not in I Know It’s Over.

I shouldn’t review this book.
All I want to say is: FDKJHKFSDX IT’S SO GOOD, GUYS. SO GOOD. PLEASE READ IT SO YOU CAN EXPERIENCE ITS AWESOMENESS.
Which isn’t the most (or, believe it or not, the least) coherent thing I’ve ever said. However, I’m going to try to write a semi-useful review, because guys, this book is so good!

This book is about a relationship between two teens named Nick and Sasha, who deals with a very big dilemma, where she tells him that she is pregnant. At first the book starts off with a closure from Nick's perspective. So it makes it more effective. In the story, it speaks about Nick's family and friends and their opinions towards the situation. This book is filled with drama that is put into their decision which makes it more tempting to know. At the end, even though many people might have di...more
Really great realistic story with a Male POV for a change. I thought the Nick character was very realistic. I've read other books with a male POV and most of them come across as having very similiar thought processes as girls, which I don't think is true. This book you could tell it's the way a guy thinks.
It deals with a lot of heavy issues like sex, abortion, safe-sex, homo-sexuality, divorce, it's got it all...

I very much enjoyed this book. It was so raw while being perfectly simple and straightforward at the same time. It screams pure honesty. Most books I read are young adult novels which means authors and publishers cater towards teenage girls and write from the perspective of a female. What makes this story unique is that it's a pregnancy story, told from the guy's perspective.

I just read a book called "I Know It's Over" by C.K. Kelly Martin, published on September 23rd 2008. The book is organized by chapters. This book was mainly about a group of teens who were wanting to have fun and party. Well these two teens fell in love and they had alittle to much fun. The two teens found themselfs dealing with a huge problem. There was a little one fixing to come into the world. They didnt know what to do at first, but then sasha (one of the teens)desideded she needed ...more

So...I have no idea where to begin...
I Know It's Over is on a guy's point of view so a lot of it is pretty perverted. So this books is for teens that are a bit more mature.
This book goes into detail about what it is like for the GUY when his girlfriend gets pregnant at a young age. Usually books like these are on the girl's point of view, so it's really interesting to finally read a book on the guy's point of view. Everything is so different.

This kind of book is like the title "I Know It's Over", very literal and not happy
To me, Nick seems like a great guy, never cheating and not stuck up. He was the perfect image of what a good boyfriend was, supportive. Sometimes, I was totally frustrated at Sasha, for needing a break for not being able to stay strong for Nick, but I guess that was a weakness I always had for the main character. Jillian, was very cool. She didn't freak out, didn't react how I thought she would ...more

I Know It's Over is such a wonderful honest tale of teenage pregnancy. yet it never screems Teenage Public Service announcement
I loved that the POV came from Nick. At times I wanted Sasha's POV but overall I think the dialouge driven book does well capturing her feelings as well.

I appreciate what the author was trying to do with this book but, for me, it was kind of meandering and, quite honestly, just poorly written. There was way too much reliance on dialogue and not enough actual writing and character development. Nick and Sasha and the rest of the supporting cast felt flat. The story was purely plot-driven and I thought it lacked the entire emotional side of teen pregnancy.
