For some reason this did not remotely resonate with me.

Maybe it's the try too hard meet cute where the heroine is in the shower, the orchestrated "blackmail" just to accommodate current Harlequin tropey and meaningless bland titles (he's not a billionaire?), or the manufactured mommy issues of the hero versus the Irish Beaver Cleaver clan of the heroine.

I am jaded.

For being foolish, Mel obtained what she deserved with a difference: instead of being arrested, she was bedded. But that has nothing to do with the blackmail mentioned in the title.

In order not to repeat what other reviewers have already mentioned, I shall only state the following about this book:

Positive:
1) The humour
2) The instant hot attraction
2) Hero is a writer
3) One romantic gesture: In Paris, they visit the grave of the immortal lovers Abelard and Heloïse in special circumstances with so

Very nicely done! Ms. Rice's "The Millionaire's Blackmail Bargain" is a captivating & flirty insight into the publishing world. It's filled with laughter, touching romance and just the right amount of drama. I also appreciated author's ability to weave into the story interesting facts from the life of bestselling author and to convey the atmosphere of the cities visited by the main characters.

If you imagine modern Mills & Boon novels being churned out by a Barbara Cartland type of lady who manages to dictate 240 books a year to some underling, then I can assure you things have changed a bit. The publisher has several imprints that cater for every romantic taste, from medical love stories to historical, and the stories are certainly not as cheesy as I, in my ignorance, imagined they would be. The Mile High Club, which was nominated for a RITA award this year, is in the Modern Extr ...more

Regardless of the extremely cheesy title of this book , I absolutely loved it , it was so hilarious that instead of giggling I was actually laughing out loud , from the very first line I found myself laughing and laughing till my ribs hurt , the way Mel and Jack meet is by far the funniest thing I've ever read , their interactions are humorous , witty , charming and amusing , both characters were easily likeable and the chemistry between them was oozing , The book had a nice balance of romance ...more

I loved the story but the title was a little off for me. Mel and Jack's romance developed quickly but believably. I liked the quick resolution and the epilogue was perfect. I'm a sucker for a good epilogue it usually raises the book a star or lowers it if there is no good conclusion.

I enjoyed the journey between Carmel and Jack and the outcome of a one night stand.

My name's Heidi Rice, I'm a USA Today Bestselling author. I'm married with two teenage sons (which gives me rather too much of an insight into the male psyche!). I also work as a film journalist and I was born in Notting Hill in West London (before it became as chi-chi as it is in the film starring Hugh Grant!) and I now live in Islington in North London - a stone's throw away from where they shot ...more
