As a long time web developer but newbie to Drupal, I found Tomlinson's book delivers with a great structure that walked me through the basics. The final chapters on administering the site and site building methodology are spot on. I found some of the example sections, particularly Panels and Theming, to be quite out of date with the current version of Drupal. If you are not comfortable sorting through the complexities yourself you might be frustrated.

Didn't read this book from cover to cover, but it is a good introductory book for people who want to start building a web site with Drupal 7. It covers the basics, including some powerful modules like panels and views. Although this book is for beginners, don't expect you could easily get through it unless you already have moderate skills in building web sites because you need to at least understand CSS, for example, when reading the chapter about theming.

Truly a beginner book. A little to basic in my opinion. If you want a very high level overview at Drupal 7 this is your book. Keep in mind that Drupal 7 has not been released as of Oct 6th so the interfaces may change. I have been working with it and it looks pretty close still. People who have used Drupal 6 to any extent can skip this one.

You can learn to set up a usable and interesting site using this book, but the writing can be repetitive, the copy editing is bad (readers are twice referred to Chapter 3 to find information in Chapter 6) and the choice and positioning of illustrations is confusing.

Probably a decent book, I was just curious what Drupal was all about. It seems surprisingly more limited that I had imagined.

Good entry point for beginners, gets the job done. Not very exciting and quite basic (almost insultingly so).
