So I've only read six so far and there may be another In Death book that I'll enjoy better than this one but so far...this book was everything I look for in a romantic suspense.
The dialog is snappy and the story zips through like one of those futuristic cars. There's never too much of Roarke, is there, so delving into his past can't but make this installment a winner.
Summerset is especially unlikeable here and I hope there's a change in his attitude towards Eve after this...more

This is the only ongoing series I read that features the same couple in every installment: NYC Homicide Lt. Eve Dallas and the sexy, complex, brilliant and dangerous Irish tycoon known only as Rourke. But these 2 characters are SO worthy of this distinction!! :)
Eve and Rourke both come from ugly, abusive childhoods. Sexual/physical/emotional abuse…it’s more accurate to say they didn’t really have childhoods! But Eve and Rourke managed to find peace with one another and their sto...more

This is the 6th book in the In Death Series.
It is Late Autumn/Early winter in the year 2058. Eve Dallas is summoned with a riddle. Easily solved, she hurries to a grisly crime scene. A man has been eviscerated in his own home and left for Eve to find. It turns out the man was an old acquaintance of Roarke's during the days when he lived in Dublin.

I picked these up because I vaguely enjoyed the first few, and I’m kind of desperately in need of books that don’t require much work on my part. How could I go wrong, I thought.
It took me three days to figure out that my escalating bad temper wasn’t traceable to lack of sleep or regular meals or any of the other usual culprits, but was in fact correlated with my pleasure reading. See, here’s the thing I’ve been trying to pin down for over a year now. I almost never read romance for a...more

In Vengeance in Death the title is perfect. Roarke's past comes roaring back with a vengeance as a killer starts by dismembering and disemboweling a man in a hotel room and calling Eve to solve a puzzle and the murder. Soon, as the bodies begin to pile up, Eve and Roarke come to the realization that all the dead are Roarke's old friends from his murky childhood in Ireland. What becomes quickly clear, as Summerset becomes the main suspect, is that Roarke is meant to be the killer...more

Decent read as all In Death installments have been so far. As a Christian, I do get a little weary of the crazy, homicidal Christian gimmick (that's not a spoiler, BTW), but this had a lot of suspense and I actually was kind of surprised by the outcome of the case.
Eve got on my nerves this time. You'd think she's the only one under stress. Barking every other word and running roughshod over everyone. The fights she had with Roarke were pretty believable, but she just wore me down...more

Each book in this series keeps getting better and better!
We kept getting little insights into Roarke’s past, and it was so great to finally see into his back story. Too bad it was his poor friends getting killed off!
People from Roarke’s past keep getting murdered, and all the evidence points to Summerset. The evidence is so strong that even Eve isn’t sure if Summerset is guilty or not. During the investigation, we find out the details of...more

It was suggested by my mother that I might like these stories from J. D. Robb as she has collected all of them, so one day I just picked up a couple from the library and once again soon found out that I had picked out of sequence, but, no matter I organized myself to read this story and found myself in the future with Lt. Eve Dallas and the New York Police and Security Department and what a place to be!

Têm bastante "química" (coisa que ...more

Seriously is there an "In Death" novel that doesn't end with Eve Dallas battered and bleeding?
I'm slowly working my way through J.D. Robb's "In Death" series and i've been hooked since i first picked up "Naked In Death". This is the first book in a couple of books of this series that's had a real impact on my opinions of both of the main characters, husband and wife, Eve Dallas and Roarke.....just Roarke. He's a billionaire, he doesn't need to have surname if he doesn't want to! And even Summerset, the butler and Roarke's old friend from the back streets of Dublin, doesn't escape with all his secrets intact.
We already knew a little bit about Roarke and Summerset's history and the terrible loss that the...more

I haven't read this series in order (read #1 & #2 and then skipped around) and this book seems to fall somewhere midway through the series. Despite that I'm not too terribly confused. Eve Dallas is a police officer somewhere in the future where things aren't all that different from today. She is beautiful but very haunted, still somewhat emotionally stunted and married to a hunky rich guy named Rourke. In this story she is investigating a case where a family man has been horribly dismembered and...more
I really enjoyed this book. In fact, I had a hard time putting it down. Eve is called to investigate two murders that connect to her husband, Roarke. When it looks like more deaths will follow she gets help not only from Roarke, but from other officers who work with her, stretching the limits of the law to do so. I just finished another Nora Roberts book, and what a difference in writing. This was engrossing, the characters were so real and enjoyable, and the story was well-plotted and pull...more
Bellissimo.

I took only one book up north with me thinking that I'd be too busy to read. Then I came down with a something (described by the doctor as Benign Positional Vertigo - which simply meant that my balance had gone out, nobody knows why, but possibly brought about by stress) and had two full days to sleep and read as I was ordered to lie flat on my back until the dizziness passed. This was the only book I had. And despite it being the same excellent punchy read that they all are, I took one and a...more
Ah, a good mystery with a healthy dose of Irish. This time the murders are personal. Someone is coming after Eve's family and they are bringing death to her door.
Much less Mavis in this one, which to me is always a good thing. Combine that with Peabody, who becomes better with every book. And in for vacationing Feeney we have Detective McNab, who sounds like a a cashier at Hot Topic, but seems to be a nice counter to Peabody.

This is sixth instalment of the In Death series and was a good read. The murders du jour involve elements from Roarke's past and we learn some interesting and disturbing facts about our hero. The only worrying angle for me was Eve's reaction to this information and her blatantly lying about certain things so as Roarke is not implicated and his past sins do not come to light. Even though Eve loves him desperately, i don't know if the personality of Eve that J D Robb has developed would have done ...more
I really enjoyed the crime story in this one, I found it very interesting. Also loved learning more about Roarke's background, where he came from, what he was before he was Mr. Perfect Millionaire. I did not guess who the bad guy was until the very, very end, when she outright told us, I had no idea, and it was a surprise. Eve and Dallas had a big fight in this one, and I felt it was about time he stood up to her more than he usually does. I feel like he tolerates bad behavior and verbal sli...more
So far this has been my favorite book in the series. I like that we get a glimpse of Roarke's past (even though it's not pretty). The murder mystery set up was done really well, and I liked that this one was the most personal case of Eve's (more so than Mavis in Immortal in Death) because it basically comes into her home.
We get to see Eve and Summerset square off a couple of times, and I like that Summerset might finally see Eve in a more favorable light by the end. He realizes that ...more

I'm not sure why I kept reading this long. The mysteries are fairly enjoyable as a light read while you're waiting for the airport or something... but they're not really something that I could read over and over again and enjoy.
The romance, while semi-exciting in the first few books, has lost a lot of its luster. And there are still 20 more books? I don't understand it. Also, one things that drives me INSANE is that Roarke will just TOUCH his beloved Eve and cause her to orgasm right...more

Book Review: 3 Treasure Boxes
This is a fascinating story which gives us a lot more insight into both Roake and Summerset. There are not many clues as to who the culprit is except someone from Roake's past. Robb keeps any information as to who the murderer is until the end of the book and then all is revealed in a final exciting climax. Eve is fearless in her defence of Summerset and it shows a bond growing between the two of them, but the bond is still very nebulous. As usual there ...more

my sister bought this for me and now she wanted to hunt me for my debt.
I think this is the best book in all In Death series I have read (1-9 without the 2,3).
the murdered were all very horrible and even gave me nightmare the night after I read this book even though I never have any problem after watching Saw (you know, the films about mutilation. like this book). but maybe, it's because this is a book which mean I'm the one who imagine the scenes (and my imagination were so horrible ...more

this was my second chance at the Death Series... I think it will be my last. Though I found this earlier title to be better than a later one I read, this series just doesn't do it for me. I find the main character too much... everything. Too demanding, too "masculine", too "tough guy", too hypocritical, and her chosen mate- Roarke- too passive, too much of a push over, too enabling. The crime/mystery angle in this book is interesting enough, but I feel it came together abru...more
Vengeance in Death is book six in J.D. Robbs (Nora Roberts) In Death series. Im a huge fan of this series and have read all the books (almost 40 so far and still growing) multiple times. Im not doing reviews on all of them as I tackle this series once again, but I will comment on the books I find I can give five stars to. J.D. Robb really stepped up her game in this book. I was hooked from the first page until the last page. I love it when she writes of Ireland and in this book, Roarke and Eve g...more
Book 6: Vengeance in Death is the best yet. A story about murders by riddles, driven by revenge, a race against time because the main target is our beloved Roarke.
JD Robb out did herself, this woman is brilliant and continues to surprise me. The futuristic world she illustrated is very realistic, the characters she conjured up are fascinating, and the H/H, well they are the main reason why I'm in love with this 30+ series.

Thrilling, suspenseful, fast-paced, and romantic are just a few words to describe this addition to the In Death series. I continue to love Eve and Roarke. Their relationship has grown so much and continues to deepen with each book. I had a hard time with Eve in this book because she can be quite hard. Her relationships with those around her are challenging and she is becoming to realize that she needs her friends especially female.

A religious nutjob sociopathic serial killer targets Even and Roarke (Shocker!). Extremely bloody mutilated bodies are found and Summerset is tied to more than one murder.
Hating the snobbish, uptight asswad, Eve still finds herself using every resource to prove that he should not be her prime suspect. If only the dude would follow her advice and stay close to home.

★★★★★ J.D. Robb (AKA Nora Roberts) should get some kind of award for creating a married couple whose relationship remains H.O.T. Yup. Roarke and Eve still have it. Loved the suspense in this futuristic police procedural, too. I’ve said it before, but Susan Ericksen was born to narrate this series; she outdoes herself again and just keeps getting better.
