Well, duh! You can't get wrong with this series! ;P.
Even I know some people said the case and the pattern of the story are recycled over and over, you will find a bits of information here. BTW, Memory in Death is unique. While another books in this series have multiple victims, Memory in Death just have one victim (2 actually, but the other just got hurt not killed). Even I can guess who's the culprit from the beginning, its doesn't make my enjoyable to read less.

Funny, awesome, and very witty at times. Another look into Eve's world as she grew up and not so wonderful. Eve's past has made the woman she is and when a bit of the past comes looking for her, she needs to re-evalute her soul. Before she can do her own kicking, the past (her foster mother) is murdered. Checking into this mess leads to multiple other suspects, woman that were torture during their stay with Trudy. Eve seeks justice for the dead woman because its her job. Another title that lead...more

Oh, that Eve Dallas. If you've gotten to this (book 24!) in the Eve Dallas series, you don't need my review. You're reading it anyway. Good luck. It's pretty much the same as the rest. Can I finish this series already so I can get back to reading REAL books?

I know Rolf says I shouldn't be ashamed of what I read. I'm not particularly ashamed of reading this series, but of having been sucked in.

I feel a bit like Guy Montag's wife. Roarke and Mavis and Peabody have all become my family. I've start...more

This makes only the second book I have read in the Eve Dallas series. I enjoyed it as much, if not more, than the first one I read, Naked In Death. Somehow I managed to skip 20 books in between the two I've read. I've decided I really must get my hands on the rest of the series. I love a book with a strong, kick ass female lead and Eve certainly fills those shoes. She doesn't 'take no crap' from anyone and is quick to let everyone know just exactly what's on her mind. Her main weakness, though,...more

Book Review: 2 Treasure Boxes

It’s Christmas 2059, and Santa is dead, but that’s an easy case for Lieutenant Eve Dallas. In Memory in Death, the hard case comes later and involves the murder of Trudy Lombard, a woman who was once Eve’s foster mother. She is brutally killed, sometime after she tried to blackmail Roake about Eve’s nefarious past.

To date there are 44 books in the In Death series, with one more expected to be released in February of 2013. These books are crime drama, suspense and rom...more

Once again Eve Dallas' past comes back to bite her. This time, it is in the form of the foster mother who took her in for a few months after she was found wandering on the streets as a child. At first Dallas doesn't remember her, but then it hits her that this is the woman who tormented and tortured her by doing everything from starving her to locking her in a dark room for the 6 months Eve endured her before running away. This time, Eve chases her away with the threat of locking her in a cage b...more

Wow...another superb one from Robb, and I think I'm gonna add the rest of the series to my wishlist! A really good crime novel...still love the characters and the writing style!

I recently read 'Survivor in Death' and loved it, so when this surfaced at our monthly meetup I grabbed it, despite the fact that I'm not supposed to be taking books....

(From Amazon) "Eve Dallas is one tough cop. She can take on purse snatchers, drug dealers, and worse. But when Trudy Lombard - a seemingly ordinary middle...more

This book has several pluses. Only one dead person and that person deserves it. No blood and gore and random violence. We learn more about Eve's early life, this time about her life in a foster home. It also brings out some of the uglier side of Eve when she and Roarke have a fight. And some of her better side as she really thinks about the people she has come to love and depend on and picks out gifts that they will love. There are many great scenes. Dennis Mira putting his arm around Eve and Ev...more

even though there is a formula at work here I still want to read and soak up all the moments one by one

to say that I want my own Roarke is an understatement!
There is just no way that couple can articulate their frustration and anger and resolve everything so neatly... I want that too. Normal people hold on to hurt too long.

Everyone should have their kind of marriage

I love reading about it.... I love that although she does not like shopping, but she will search for the exact present that will be...more

Trudy Lombard, one of Eve Dallas' foster mothers shows up in Eve's office. This sends Eve in a 'tizzy' because of her wretched past. Trudy is not there to renew old times but to blackmail Eve and especially Roarke. Trudy was a cruel foster mom who abused Eve. Roarke refuses to pay and threatens right back.

Trudy is found murdered the next day and it is up to Eve to find the killer.

In this story the reader pretty much knows who the killer is but along with Eve is constantly searching for what wil...more

Rupert recommended this, and I thoroughly enjoyed it – so much so that I’m right now ordering the first in the series from the library. That one will apparently tell me how Eve met Roarke. I like the characters – they’re almost caricatured, but are enjoyable. The story is fast, the detective work is solid, and is enhanced by the slightly futuristic setting.

In this book, Eve is stunned to find herself visited by a woman claiming to be her mother. At first Eve has no idea who the woman is, but the...more

Wow, what an intense installment. This story brings more of Eve's past into the present when she receives an unexpected and unwanted visit from her foster mother, Trudy Lombard. The reunion is anything but joyous and Trudy's intentions are quickly discovered when she attempts to extort $2 million from Roark in exchange for keeping the details of Eve's past out of the media. Naturally, Roark is unwilling to capitulate to her demands and she leaves. Eve and Roark realize they need to pay Trudy a v...more

One of Eve's former foster mothers comes to New York to try to blackmail money out of Roarke. Her appearance initially shakes Eve so much that she leaves work in the middle of a case, dumping everything on Peabody. (Granted, it's a straightforward case and Peabody was already taking the lead.)

Having no luck with Eve, Trudy confronts Roarke directly. Roarke scares the shit out of her with the threat of what he'll do if she doesn't walk away. A few days later, after a pause for a fancy Christmas p...more

I really enjoyed this book. The "murder victim " is a former abusive foster Mom of Lt. Dallas. Since the majority of crimes are committed by someone the victim knows, I automatically thought that the perpetrator of the crime was the Daughter-In-Law.
J.D. Robb always puts in a twist or two so I have to wonder...But does Dallas also think the D.I.L. did it?
In this series the antagonist(s) is usually a serial killer who either targets women or is a serial killer(s) group bent on City/State/World...more

I always like these books. I realize that they don't change a whole bunch over the course of the series and that some things are recycled, but as a whole I like the story line so I keep reading.
This installment finds Eve investigating the death of a foster mother from her childhood. A foster mother who wasn't too good to her and who had come back into her life to try to wheedle some money out of Eve and her Roarke. I enjoyed seeing a little bit more of the child Eve was, especially the child af...more

This is the first book on cd I've ever finished listening to. It took a lot longer to listen to than I think it would have taken me to read. I didn't love the story, the main character bugged me a bit, but I wonder how much of that was due to the voice of the reader. I didn't like the way she did the voices of a few of the characters. I don't know if that is why I didn't like the story, or if I just didn't like the story.

I just read other peoples reviews and realized this is a series (I wondered...more

Anyone who follows my reviews knows I love this series. As a mystery Memory was not her greatest book, but I read these books less now for the mystery plot and more for the development of the characters and their interactions. I loved Eve's growth as a wife and a friend. The real mystery wasn't so much 'whodunnit', as we figure that early on in the book (or at least I did, well before “the reveal”); it was more of a 'howdunnit.' How was the murder carried out, how was it covered up, and how coul...more

I love this series but this was not one of her better books. The murderer was pretty obvious early on in the book so the investigation went around in circles and dragged on. The premise of Eve coming face to face with her former foster mother started out promising but simply lost steam. There were several subplots that focused on the holidays and character relationships that were distracting from the main storyline. However, with all of this said, I love the humor and wit found in each book in t...more

Memory in Death - By luck, I seem to be finding these novels in order at the library (at least, in order from the 22nd book or whichever one I started from). Eve is confronted by an unwelcome ghost from the past (very unwelcome, given her particularly tormented past), Roarke hangs around being very wealthy and supportive as usual, and we have Christmas going on making Eve particularly misanthropic. The mystery is tight and exciting, and while the final revelations stretch the bounds of belief ju...more

In 21 books we learned a lot about Eve's past, that her worst memories come from what her father did to her. Now her former surrogate mother appears and I was all like "WTF???" because we never heard anything about her,at least not that I remember ^^ That's something I really didn't like about this new book. The whole case is also way too dragged out and a bit boring because there is no real danger, everything goes kinda smoothly which is totally untypical for any of the cases Eve is involved in.....more

I liked this one, its Eve and Roarke's second Christmas together. A woman from Eve's past comes to visit with not a clue who she is dealing with; tries to blackmail Eve, then Roarke. Most disappointing when she turns up dead before Eve could really put the screws to her. I think Eve is really growing in her friendships and the nuances that go with having people in your life that your care about in return they care about you. I think this book had a lot of little instances mixed in with Christmas...more

Picked this up at a charity store in New Zealand looking for something to read and this was my first JD Robb novel.

I enjoyed it great crime mystery novel Eve Dallas is an interesting character but starting so far into the series (I think this is book 22) I feel that I have to go back and start from the beginning because I missed so much. However, there were lots of little recaps to get me up to speed so I do know what's been going on in Eve Dallas' life.

Has got me interested and think I'll read...more

Eve's foster mother, Trudy shows up in New York City out of the blue. Bringing back her childhood memories of cold showers and being kept in a dark room. When Eve throws Trudy out of her office at cop central, Trudy goes to Roarke demanding 2 million dollars to keep Eve's childhood out of the media. Trudy leaves Roarke emptied handed and devises a plan to beat her self up and blame it on Roarke, except when Eve and Roarke turn up at Trudy's hotel room the next day, Trudy is dead on the floor. JD Robb shifts gears again, giving us a slow-paced whodunit with a different set of bad memories on Eve Dallas’ mind. On the heels of wrapping up a Santa splattered on the sidewalk, an unpleasant memory walks into Eve’s office. Trudy Lombard had been Eve’s foster mother for six months following Eve’s escape from her sadistic father. Trudy Lombard had delivered her own forms of torture, and Eve boots her from her office.

Eve’s husband Roarke is utterly unsurprised when Ms. Lombard visits him to tr...more

Memory in Death is the 22nd book in In Death series by J.D.Robb.
After all those books it was natural to see a slight change of rhythm. This book is a great example of that.
This is been a great series so far but it is normal to start to loose the excitement. I have to say, in defence of the author of which I'm a great fan, until this book I've never felt any change in my enthusiasm for the books in this series.
But this Memory in Death was different in every aspect.
It started out okay, with cert...more

A very solid installment in the series. It's days before Christmas--Eve and Roarke's second one together--and Eve is visited by a 'ghost' from her past. Okay, not exactly a ghost, but someone she hasn't thought of in decades. Trudy Lombard was Eve's first foster mother after being found dazed, bloodied and unidentified in an alley in Dallas, Texas at the age of eight. Far from motherly, Trudy was strict and cruel to Eve, causing even more damage to Eve's sense of worth and overall emotional well...more

I really enjoyed the depiction of the relationship between Roarke and Eve. They weren't lovey-dovey all the time, but neither were they constantly annoying each other. They fought, they made up, they bantered, and they took care of each other. Their relationship wasn't perfect, but without having to explain things in the narrative, it was clear they knew each other very well and really cared about each other in a way that goes beyond the flash of infatuation and physical attraction depicted in s...more
