Bette Davis
“She could look demure while behaving like an empress. Blonde, with eyes like pearls too big for her head, she was very striking, but marginally pretty and certainly not beautiful . . . But it was her edge that made her memorable—her upstart superiority, her reluctance to pretend deference to others.”

I must confess I have only seen All About Eve as it's the number one Bette Davis film to see according to film scholars. I got the feeling, reading this book, that she wasn't happy though she was the dominant film actress of her time. She was dominating too and maybe I should check out one of her films sometime where she was a bitch or "the boss" of the film. Maybe I'll check out Little Foxes.

A slim PB book on a Hollywood royal that focuses mostly on the work and the career, just the way I like my celebrity books. It [necessarily for its length:] splashes quickly across movies and periods, but it gives you enough to go on.
The world's favourite film critic's short career biography of the late, great Bette Davis. Worth a leaf-through for film fans.
