This collection of fun to read Christmas stories (suitable for reading anytime of year) are each approx. 50 pages in length. I felt each of these stories had great character development considering the length of each. Each story is different and does not tie in with each other. My personal favorites were Take Me Home by Tracey Bateman. Coon's Hollow was in need of a teacher and Kathleen Johnson was the perfect fit, at least in Josh Truman's eyes. Will Kathleen stay? I loved the character of Mary...more

Though I think I read a version that only had 4 of these historic romances, they're still a bit too romantic and old aged for me, but I got it as a christmas present (big suprise there) and decided to give it a chance and its actually kinda good, in a cute "this is how people fell in love awhile ago (like people my parents age or older, which is old trust me) kind of way". Or maybe it takes place in the early 1900s?? Whateva same consept; it was so innocent and adorable, and I liked it. =P
i picked this book up in a used book store for $4.00.. i loved reading the short stories right before bed.. they were long enough to interest but short enough to finish daily.
I loved the positive christian messages woven into each story, and the fact that theses stories are Christmas themed was just an added bonus. A great book to read during the holiday season.
The women in the stories were not really keen on love, at first, but by the end of the story they accept the fact that you can't stop...more

To be completely honest, I am not a huge fan of anthologies. The moment I start getting into the plot or the characters, the story draws to an end. There isn't enough time for deep and meaningful character development or plot development. For me, anthologies are literary snacks-something to whet your reading palette when you don't have enough time to fully engross in a book. The writing is simple and the book is obviously published by a less-than-perfect publishing company but the stories are sweet and entertaining and really help keep you in the Christmas spirit. I love historical fiction, especially stories about the 1800s prairie era, so I really enjoyed the stories in this book. The characters are surprisingly interesting and the plots are cute (usually romantic with a Christian theme). I really enjoyed reading the stories during the Christmas season last year a...more

Absolutely Beautiful! Enjoyable Read!
Beautiful Christian Christmas Stories that will definitly get you in the mood for the snowy winter season. Every story was very touching with its own each HEA. I always find these historical stories of the old days amazing as they get through the hard times and make due with what little they have.
Each story has its own blessing as the characters are described throughout the story making you just want to hug the book when the story is over because i...more

Not my usual genre for sure, it came recommended as a holiday read. This is a historical romance collection of nine short stories that happen to take place around Christmas time. There is a Christian touch to all of them. Too brief for anything but stock character development, predictable plots, and simple theology. Very inconsistent quality of writing, some were definitely better than others. One in particular was a laughable eye roller. Others were delightfully charming. Sometimes you just nee...more
This was a really nice collection of Christmas stories. A couple of the stories felt a bit rushed in the "climax", but I think sometimes that's just the way short stories are, they have to pull things together a lot faster due to their shortened nature. Each story was about 50 pages long, which was nice -- I could read one or two in a sitting, and not have to remember what was going on in the book when I was able to pick it up again, which this week was nice, since I haven't had any large chunks...more

"A Prairie Christmas Collection: 9 Historical Christmas Romances from America's Great Plains" is the perfect holiday reader's treat for a "Prairie Woman at Heart" like me. Nine talented authors are featured in this charming Christmas anthology: Tracie Peterson, Tracey Bateman, Pamela Griffin, JoAnn A. Grote, Darlene Mindrup, Deborah Raney, Janet Spaeth, Jill Stengl, and Maryn Langer Smith. Each author spins a heartwarming romantic tale full of seasonal spirit and sentiment, and there are also de...more
Wonderful read, especially through the holiday season! This book helps to remind each person who reads it the true meaning of the holidays. This book encompasses many families and is segmented in chapters within each story line. I found it easy to finish one story line (at least) daily. The segmentation also allowed me to read and do other projects at the same time. A very good book overall.
This book doesn't really stand out to me but it is a feel good Christmas collection of short stories. They are all set in the early 1800's out in the parries of the new states. There is a romance and Christmas traditions that help bring in the Christmas spirit. There arebloads of recipes I dod not have a chance to try butbit may be fun to do it a group.
The first story in the book is called Take Me Home by Tracey V. Bateman. This is the story of Kathleen Johnson who gets a job as a teacher in Coon's Hollow. She learns that no teacher ever stays at Coon's Hollow school for very long. She soon learns the reasons why. She also meets Josh and they fall in love at first sight but she declares she can't marry him because her mother wants her to stay in her hometown with her family. Will she leave her family to be with the man she loves?
Wonderful stories!
I picked this book b/c I enjoy stories of Christmas and romances. "A Prairie Christmas" is a collection of 9 short stories that occur in the 1800s on the Prairies. This is a good read, but has the potential to be much better. It was difficult to follow sometimes, perhaps in part due to the 9 different writing styles
